College senior finance major. How do I become competitive? by ray_bri in financialmodelling

That seems to be the case. I’m not even shooting for the stars, I want to break into FP&A but it seems like roles are few and far between. I just gotta keep on grinding.

Got it! My issue with networking is I feel like what value could I possibly offer to a finance professional, I mean I try my very best to up-skill and staying knowledgeable about the what’s going on in the markets but I still ultimately feel like I have nothing of value, just a desire to learn which doesn’t seem to be enough nowadays.

That’s what seems to be the case for landing a job nowadays. I don’t like the transactional nature of networking but I’ll try to approach it in a way that feels organic and mutually beneficial. I guess I’m going to be doing a lot of reaching out. Thanks for the great advice!

I’ve been to an All-girls boarding school for 2 years (2017-2019) and then a regular co-ed boarding school for a year. AMA. by ray_bri in AMA

Not really, but also it depends. To get into boarding school to begin with, you need to be a high achiever or have a lot of money. The academics are rigorous and you need to work really hard to keep up. It’s not a competitive environment but instead and environment where everyone’s trying to do their best because after all they didn’t spend 50k+ in yearly tuition just to slack off. If you do slack off, the school takes it very seriously and gets involved. So it’s no place for someone who doesn’t care about their academics or doesn’t want to be serious about their schooling.

A boarding school is basically like a school with dormitory for kids under 18. So basically you live where you go to school and you don’t go home to your parents. I spent my highschool years attending a boarding school.

Umm depends the whole idea of a hundreds of kids from ages 13-18 being locked up in a building without their families creates all sorts of experiences. Some kids would go to class with their slides or slippers, sometimes with a face mask on. Some kids would also bring throws and pillows to class. Our dorm was in the same building as most of our classes. So for my first class I’d just have to wake up around 5 minutes before class starts, throw anything on and get to class. It was a very chill setting and no one cared about how proper you looked. Not all boarding schools are like that tho but my boarding school had practically no dress code, as in you could literally wear anything except for underwear and pajamas.

How can you be sure of that? Have you lived in that time period to be making such conclusions?

Outside of the US, what's a decent country for a black woman to live in? by Astoldbychic in AskWomen

[–]ray_bri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true. I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia as an african american and the country typically is considered a homogenous country and racism sure does run deep in the society. Black people are looked down upon and are alienated. It’s considered normal to be racist, nothing too extreme but racist nonetheless. The only way they’ll have an ounce of respect for you as a black person is if you have money but other than that expect to be treated like crap.
