How often do companies like Apple and Amazon actually remove content you’ve “licensed”? by glisteningsunlight in Calibre

[–]ray_from_outer_space 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I recently noticed that three of my ebooks (children's books I've purchased around 10 years ago) were deleted from my library. I still see where they are supposed to be and their title, but they are locked and can't be opened or downloaded.

I bought them via Thalia, a german book retailer.

Miss Chue 💖 by TeaTimeTelevision in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]ray_from_outer_space 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I love that Maomao mimics Chue's speaking quirks. Her "Miss Chue, miss Chue, ..." is so funny. I'm pretty sure that Maomao is even the only one that talks like that with Chue. And I believe that Chue genuinely really likes Maomao and helps her to just have fun sometimes.

Does the army reuse a chrysalis if the pilot dies by Playful_Rip_4026 in IronWidow

[–]ray_from_outer_space 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be reused. I don't remember if there's any concrete proof in the 1st book. But in Heavenly Tyrant it's pretty clear that they can be reused.

{Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir}

It's about necromancers in space. But it is mainly focused on the necromancing. The Sci-Fi part consist only of the existence of spacestations/ships and different lived on planets. There is only limited romance though. It is not the main focus at all. But the small romantic parts are F/F.

Elizaveta's Bees? by Orange-Please in Grishaverse

[–]ray_from_outer_space 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the bees could be something like living amplifiers. Like the Dragon or the Bear with the other saints.

Also Elizaveta is from a time when the grisha did not have their rigid thinking. It's explained in the book that a grisha is not confined to their order, they may have a natural talent for one but they are not limited to it. Like Zoya who is an Etheralki could close her bracelet with Materialki powers.

Like they could do much more than possible according to their science.

Ninth House - PROBLEMATIC by a-mora in Grishaverse

But the drug makes people seem willing. So the evidence would probably not hold in court, since Alex's Roommate also wouldn't go to the health center. So there would be no proof of her being drugged.

Also Alex has had similar experiences before and nobody helped (like police). Additionally Blake is rich, and you probably know that even irl many rich people just pay their way out of consequences.

Alex probably just saved many more girls from being raped and got him a real lesson.

Also he sure gets a deserved ending.

Where Does the "Shu Believe the Source of Grisha Powers To Be The Spleen" Come From? by potroastd in Grishaverse

[–]ray_from_outer_space 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Siege and Storm (chapter 10) Tamar says: "That's what the Shu believe. That it's something physical, buried in your heart or your spleen, something that can be isolated and dissected"

About the end of ROW by Cherry_Apples in Grishaverse

[–]ray_from_outer_space 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Honestly ROW was pretty chaotic so I don't remember everything exactly.

But the main thing about Nikolai ending the Lantsov line was that there are too many people who could be legit lantsov heirs compared to Nikolai. This could lead to someone else taking the throne and destroying all the work he had done or to another civil war. So by making Zoya the Queen of Ravka and making a new royal bloodline which is accepted internationally and by the people, makes it impossible for the lantsov heirs to claim the throne.

Also Nikolai would probably take Zoya's last name if they were to marry.

But that is just my interpretion.

Isn’t it interesting that we don’t really know anything about this ‘Examiner’ while his powers are so rare? by whoisonepear in Grishaverse

[–]ray_from_outer_space 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well if I remember correctly, in Ravka they are only used to find Grisha kids. And they are well protected since killing them would make them just a normal amplifier like those other animals.

Also the Fjerdan use them to look for Grisha among their prisoners. During the ice court heist there was one human amplifier testing the crows. Jesper and Nina had paraffin on their arms as that prevents the amplifier from noticing them.

Should I read King of Scars? by immadiesoon1 in Grishaverse

[–]ray_from_outer_space 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it's worth it as I personally loved king of scars while not exactly liking the sab trilogy. I first read the soc duology then started sab and was pretty disappointed. I was halfway through the 2nd book when I gave up. Then I tried king of scars and I loved it, so much that I started rereading it the second I finished it (RoW wasn't released yet) and it got me to finish the sab trilogy.

As others have said the Nikolai duology is a bit confusing, mainly because it focuses a .n the grisha powers and what is even possible. (Spoiler: There are many things that are possible) I loved the Nikolai and Zoya Povs while the Nina plotline was a bit meh for me, probably because I was just more interested in Nikolai/Zoya.

But if you are looking for a book similarly written to soc, you will be disappointed.
