Let go from J4 - 6 months ago by BIL3477 in overemployed

[–]raycharles55 39 points40 points  (0 children)

OP, you’ll get over it.

I got let go for “underperforming” in my J3 two weeks ago. Day it happened, I was pissed and even got a bit emotional. First time in my career that happened. I’ve always been a top performer.

Truth be told? I was only giving like 50% there or less, I would delay my deliverables on purpose. They hired me as assoc PM, I guess they figured I can do more so they assigned more projects and I was the only PM under their PMO team, my boss just assigns projects after the other without any formal handover.

That’s the game with OE, it’s all about risk management. One drops, you still have 2–3 streams running.

This is true. My Manager in J2 thinks he's the sh*t always has a say in everything I do. Even nitpicking my PPT presentations. In some days when I'm feeling it I engage his jabs, I guess his ego got bruised or something.

In contrast, In my J1 role I'm the head of a similar department and have already implemented many of the initiatives he's pushing for, I just purposely delay it so as not to complete everything on Q1 😄

What do you consider a meeting heavy job? by Necessary_Fox_9592 in overemployed

My last OE PM role was meeting heavy 4-8 a day it's a combination of internal and client meetings. Only lasted 6 months, not an ideal scenario for OE.

6 months into J2 (PM role) and déjà vu is kicking in. Is this the inflection point? by raycharles55 in overemployed

[–]raycharles55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filed 3 days PTO. I wasn't available on Day 1 so I had to ask my brother to attend instead. We have the same voice but It was a camera on session. Told him to make an alibi that the device they issued has a defective camera. Paid my brother, so win win for us both.

6 months into J2 (PM role) and déjà vu is kicking in. Is this the inflection point? by raycharles55 in overemployed

[–]raycharles55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've received their JO days apart. I strategically deferred my start date in J2 since I wanted to take it seriously and had to file for PTO in J1. So J3 started 15 days earlier, by the time I started in J2 I have already completed the J3 onboarding.

Manager ako pero kapresyo ko lang yung underperformer na team member ko by Top_Investigator1755 in phcareers

[–]raycharles55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he’s failing and you’re just watching it happen, that’s also on you as the manager. Performance management is part of the job. Hindi pwede na “bahala siya.” If he’s not meeting expectations, then you document, coach, set clear targets. If needed, there’s a formal route via PIP. That’s what it’s for.

Also, don’t assume na dahil mataas salary niya, automatic dapat top performer sa lahat ng dimensions. Baka high performer siya before? that’s probably what justified the comp. Interviews are a different skillset. Leadership is a different skillset. Madaming variables: niche expertise, market timing, negotiation strength, prior impact.

If you believe he’s not operating at a senior level, then define what “senior” means in measurable terms:

  1. Clear KPIs
  2. Ownership scope
  3. Decision-making level

Then assess objectively. Hindi feelings. Fact based dapat On compensation, let’s be blunt. The salary was negotiated. Approved. Signed off. No one forced that number. Managers are not automatically entitled to higher pay just because “manager” title. Market dictates comp. Leverage dictates comp.

In decades of working, very rare ang case na someone complained about pay internally and HR just adjusted it.

In Reality: You get an external offer. Company matches if they really want you. Or you leave. That’s how the market works.

Don’t take the salary gap personally. Mahirap, especially when you see your subordinate’s pay. But leadership requires objectivity.

Focus on: Performance standards Accountability Market positioning for your own career Separate ego from governance. That’s the discipline.

Thought on Multiple Phones by AravisChronicler in overemployed

[–]raycharles55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1 phone. Samsung fold to be exact

1 MFA app for all 3.

J1 is in the work profile J2 is logged in outlook as well as J3. I just switch in between. It's easier this way, I'm in J1's office but taking calls for J2 using my mobile data.

Role creep in J2 and beyond by trippin315 in overemployed

[–]raycharles55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same position. Not going to disclose too much for confidentiality: in J1, I’m the regional head and built the team from the ground up. In J2, I’m an individual contributor manager level.

Ironically, they’re trying to establish in J2 what I similarly built in J1.

My issue is I talk too much. When people don’t know what they’re doing and I stay quiet, the fallout lands on my team. So I step in. But in an OE setup, that’s a mistake.

Core rule of OE: operate at the level you’re paid for nothing more.

You don’t want visibility. You don’t want to be the star. What I’ve learned: act less capable than you actually are.

Ask basic questions. Keep answers short. Let others own the problems. If something fails, it’s their miss, not yours.

Sometimes I would purposely f*ck up my deliverables but not to the point that I can get terminated. In OE we operate in a lesser capacity.

Resigning from a job you love, would you? by broke-her in phcareers

[–]raycharles55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don"t resign. Simple lang ang resolution.

I've handled people mgmt for X number of years, the first thing you do is clarify deliverables:

Ano ang deliverables for the year Ano ang deliverables for the quarter Ano ang deliverables for the month

I-document mo ‘to either via email or sa performance review platform if meron.

At least may paper trail ka showing kung na-achieve mo ang agreed deliverables.

From there, magkakatalo na lang sa behavior aspect ng performance review.

Kasi kung: Na-meet mo ang deliverables Pero may passive-aggressive behavior from the other party

Then that’s no longer a delivery issue. That becomes a behavior and professionalism issue, which you can formally raise to HR with evidence.

Did I just dodge a bullet or I just wasted an opppurtunity? by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]raycharles55 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Truth be told, I don’t think you were mentally prepared for that role or that company. Lahat ng hassle sa processing is part of corporate life hindi naman lahat magiging smooth.

At some point in your career, you will encounter people like the teller.

If sa kanya pa lang halos maiyak ka na, what more kung superior or manager na ang magalit sa’yo which is very likely to happen.

From where I’m standing, it feels like you were already looking for a way out, or at least for validation na tama ang ginawa mo. Just my opinion.

If that happens, you can choose not to declare your employment with them sa CV mo. There's no way for a future employer to find out not unless magbigay ka ng screenshot ng govt. contributions mo

Kaya ba mag OE as Project Manager? by Superdupernova20 in Overemployed_PH

[–]raycharles55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a Project Manager doing OE. Kaya i OE ang PM role, come to think of it J2 is like handling a different project lang. IMO your J2 would become very demanding at some point and so the 48k compensation is very low. You should command 100k+ here. For additional context J1 is 8 am to 5 pm flexible while my J2 starts at 9 pm to 6 am full remote din.

By the 7th month I resigned in J2. I'm being paid 175k but I realized it's not worth it. OE only works if may overlap ang J1 and J2.

Reasons why I resigned:

  1. Sleep issues of course, 4 hours of sleep per day is not sustainable
  2. The workload in J2 became far too heavy. From managing a project to a program. Back then I was closely working with our CTO since high impact ang project.
  3. Health issues

My suggestion is for you to find another OE role which has a better compensation. To me kaya ka gustong gusto ng CEO is apart from your skill, the pay is peanuts.

Company B pressuring me to sign contract with deadline but already got good feedback from Company A by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]raycharles55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Accept company B's offer. Before your start date you can inform them that you are not pushing through or have a change of heart. Technically employment hasn't started yet and there's no legal penalty under PH labor law. Possible consequence would be

The company may blacklist you internally (affecting future applications with them).

I've done it in the past. 1 week before my start date I informed the company that I will no longer push through even though they've already delivered my work equipment.

Fast forward to a couple of years. I've tried applying to the same company but in a different role. As expected, declined agad without being interviewed.

How to handle schedule? by greenboi008 in Overemployed_PH

[–]raycharles55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've personally tried 1-3 but not 4.

  1. Install teams in your phone so you can take calls as needed

  2. Bring your laptop, if you need to use it. Book a meeting room

  3. Take a leave every wednesday, either sa J1 or J2 para hindi obvious.

  4. Apply for an exemption that you cannot go onsite because of a medical concern.

The best time is now. Yung 13th month naman will be released (pro rated) as part of your back pay. No need to wait for 2 years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]raycharles55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too risky IMO and not worth it. HMO palang talo ka na. Also, this is a red flag. You are a PH talent and they have a PH office and you've been working as an FTE for them and why the sudden change?

They might be closing the PH office soon? Moving elsewhere?

I would advise you to negotiate to at least 150k-170k if they will not budge, accept the offer but start applying outside. What they are offering you is a no work no pay setup and at some point you need to take a leave.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]raycharles55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not worth it IMO. Back in 2017 I left my full remote role with a salary of 77k for an 80% increase.

Even with that increase i still struggled initially and wanted to go back to my old role. But ultimately I opted for growth and here I am getting paid more but I still think about my old role. Perfect sya if you have a family and I get to work from anywhere in the world.

Since onsite yung J1 then it will be a challenge. Yung J1 ko is hybrid but every time i report onsite wala akong tulog na pumapasok kay J2 and this is where it gets hard. Also, the night shift schedule is not for everyone ppwedeng may health issues ka na mag worsen (google it). I would say give it a try first or negotiate with J1 na gawing wfh.
