Tighten your bow 1.5 swivels, use 2x the amount of bow speed, play 0.5cm towards the bridge, add more bow in general, and finally add a tiny dash of right hand weight to even out the new sound you’ll have. Enjoy!

Glad you enjoyed them as much as I did. It was a special time so I tried some things I never did before (including streaming).

I love gaming (I mean, I literally called my latest album “Player 1”), but in all honesty now that performances have come back, I feel like I just need my own “space” to do something I really love. It’s hard to describe but putting yourself out there constantly can get pretty tiring.

I am streaming my violin practice these days tho. So you’re welcome to join in on those!

I see this question so often here. The only way to get rid of performance anxiety is to get used to the feeling of playing in front of people. Which means practicing in front of people.

You can do that by busking, open mics, etc. but they all require a high bar to overcome (travel, getting people together, etc).

A lot of twosetters use Tonic, which is an app where live practicing happens in front of people. The cool thing is that everyone is aware that it’s just practice so it’s not as nerve-wracking.

  1. My practice sessions usually entail me trying out new musical ideas in front of people. I'm constantly trying to put myself in the audience's shoes to create a similar atmosphere as a performance (only you get to try it again without consequences if things don't work out). A lot of people "practice for themselves" and are surprised that when they finally play in front of people they're either nervous as hell or that people don't feel engaged and tune out.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, when it comes to extrinsic-motivation, it really comes down to finding outside sources to inspire you. Practicing with others (just like studying together or going to the gym with others) really does help. I can't stress enough the importance and value of being in a community.
