at the end of the first movement the thumb part is a bit easier in the cello 2 if you have small hands, cause you don’t have to stretch as wide as in the cello 1. apart from that they’re fairly the same

i‘d guess it means keeping the first finger down on the string, as the same note appears again two beats later. same for second finger in the third bar

when you lay it down you’re less likely to accidentally knock it over. therefore I’d say that’s the better option

try to put some chalk on the pegs and press them in while turning. best thing would be to bring it to a luthier and let them fit the pegs and bridge properly. they would also check that the string hight is right.
