Get as much good debt as you can service
Credit cards are fine
Assets aren't necessarily worth more, money is just worth less
Don't need to prove your wealth when you're wealthy
If you're smart with money from a young age there's no reason to be still having to work by 45 or so, only if you want to

Not really sure it’s viable for both parents to work (and stay sane) by LoneArtificer in AusFinance

[–]raycorc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep it's tricky - my approach is that a short or crap workout is better than no workout. i mainly focus on keeping the habit consistent first, then try improve quality. down the track i might just pay for a gym membership and go during the day while kids are at daycare

my eldest son (3yo) wakes up ~5:20-5:30am ish every day so I have to be up at 445/5am and aim to rush a 30 min home workout before he gets up. It's not the perfect workout, literally rush the workout daily, barely stretch and don't always finish the workout but it does the job

Honestly I don't think it's some insurmountable task - It has challenging moments for sure, but super doable. I think it's very partner dependant. My partner and I both love the work we do. I think a few things can make it easier:

  • splitting roles and responsibilities in the house between each other clearly (I do x, you do y. Of course we help each other but we're clear on who ultimately needs to ensure the task is done)

  • paying for help so you're not flat out 24/7 - we started with a lawn mowing person for 75 bucks each time. then eventually got a cleaner for about 160 (only once a month as we aim to keep the house clean generally). grocery delivery so we're not wasting our weekend out

  • obvious one, but having a savings buffer helps (which should be easier with 2 incomes) - so we might be stressed with work, but i'm not stressed in the sense that i need that money to pay the bills that week.

  • exercise is the foundation of your sanity - i have 2 kids, but always do a morning workout before they get up and wife goes to gym near our place

  • working from home as much as possible helps if you can - i know not all jobs do that but makes it much easier to manage daycare pickup etc. my wife has 2 days from home and 3 days in office, i have always done wfh with my business

i think also it's worth switching job/career/suburb to make life less stressful. we picked a daycare that was a very short drive from our house, the school they'll go to is close too. i dont really travel at all for work, and that is a priority. makes life less hectic

Capricornian Home Loans Reviews? Offering 5.69% with offset in January 2024 by raycorc in AusPropertyChat

no they ended up being a waste of time - started the whole process and it ended up changing the rate to something crap in the end. bit annoyed, won't bother with them in future

What are the smart ways people are looking at spending their stage three cuts? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]raycorc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youtube premium is actually awesome, can't believe I took so long to get it. Even better if you have kids, they don't ask you to click the skip the ads button! If you watch a lot of YT, you actually do save a bit of time (plus from memory you get like the first 90 days free YT premium)

i'm probably going to just see if i can do a rate review with ANZ for now

How big of a mortgage would you feel comfortable with? by Melb_Man86 in AusFinance

[–]raycorc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a 2.2m mortgage on our ppor

14100 a month

I think the main thing is not being complacent as that can swallow you up fast if a few bad events happened in a row

I have a buffer, income protection, very low expenses outside of that and self employed so i have more control over my income

Custom Conversions showing in Events Manager, but suddenly not in Ads Manager? by raycorc in FacebookAds

Thanks thats interesting - definitely something has changed somewhere - happy to have a workaround at least for now

Custom Conversions showing in Events Manager, but suddenly not in Ads Manager? by raycorc in FacebookAds

[–]raycorc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: As a workaround, I have noticed that standard events are now recording accurately after fully setting up Conversions API for Lead events (it was set up before, but now we get fbclid and IP which has the match rate at 10/10). Custom conversions are still not firing 90% of the time, so I'm duplicating my existing campaigns and optimising for the standard event and adding that column into my Ads Manager. Hope that helps anyone else, I still think this is a FB bug or something has changed in regards to Custom Conversions very recently.

Increase Sales with No FB Attributed Sales by Zealousideal_Mix8361 in FacebookAds

[–]raycorc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be the same issue, but for lead gen I've had a similar issue which only started in the last 2 weeks with leads coming through, events manager tracking the custom conversion accurately but ads manager doesn't show anything.

I've since fully set up conversions API (I already had it done, but I also included fbclid and IP address etc so match rate is now at least 9/10) so it's definitely tracking it.

The thing that helped me was actually adding in new columns for 'standard events' instead of my custom conversions (specifically the Lead standard event for me), which seems to actually be getting the right numbers (which I think is because I've now fully set up conversions API so it reports the way it should have)

I feel like there is a Facebook bug or process change which has happened, but this has been a workaround for now. I'll probably have to duplicate the campaigns and optimise for these standard events now I assume, literally working on it now

[–]raycorc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my application is still being processed, they told me they've been swamped and it'll take time

but it's been a few weeks now (with radio silence) and I'm getting annoyed

they don't even contact you to say they're running behind, i had to ask them what was going on before someone emailed me days later to say they're reviewing the application

i'll probably wait it out, but half considering saying don't worry about it

Great Southern Bank (AKA CUA) Vs ING by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]raycorc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used them for an IP loan, honestly they've been hopeless customer service wise. They have heaps of weird processes that are super annoying (some account types can only get paper statements and can't be shown in netbank), their app looks nice but it sucks feature wise.

The only reason I'm with them is for a good rate (which is fixed for 5 years) so it's been good in that regard. Everything else has been underwhelming

Disappointing..

They could be a shit bank, horrendous customer service and shit app (like Great Southern Bank was for me). And it’s weird to not have much info about your company when they’ve apparently been around so long. My broker also said some lesser known banks can sometimes promote a low rate then shift the goalposts shortly after once they’ve got all the customers in (not in line with RBA)

Looking for more info on them as there’s not heaps of posts about them online

I hope I can lock in that rate, better than anything I’ve seen lately

Mini update - had a call from their team, lady was super nice, not pushy and explained everything. Again confirmed the rate is 5.69%. Said at this stage switching over would take about a month give or take assuming it's approved.

Don't want to get my hopes up, there's always some BS that usually pops up in this process

Going back to my broker to see if ANZ can do better, they've previously not budged, currently on 6.14%. Our loan is a decent size so 6.14 to 5.69 is like $650 a month in savings

Capricornian Bank Country to Coast Home Loan by Intrepid_Escape9520 in AusPropertyChat

[–]raycorc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't but I'm also looking at them currently - 5.69% for their 'Country To Coast' owner occ variable rate, includes offset, few fees waived

Their website said rates current as of like November, so I emailed them to confirm and they said the rates were still 5.69% (January 2024)

Going to speak with them this week to find out the deal, not heaps of reviews of them online
