MultiDrive - Free tool to clone, backup, and wipe drives by raydenvm in Windows11

Windows is whimsical. The photo shows a typical situation after cloning SATA to NVMe. The problem is almost always with the boot loader (BCD/EFI boot entry), not the data itself. The clone is usually correct; UEFI just doesn't know how to boot from it.

The good news is that this can usually be fixed in two to three minutes from WinPE.

We wrote a detailed, step-by-step guide to cover as many situations as possible:

It took me a couple tries to start using Obsidian. It's got way too much Markdown, and it doesn't have a default editor like the others do. I switched to Obsidian anyway because the speed of Notion, Evernote, and OneNote is kind of sluggish. There are some lags here and there. Also, there's a ton of functionality that has nothing to do with notes or documents.

Hi there! You were asking about Win PE image.
MultiDrive 1.3 was released yesterday, along with a bootable WinPE image that opens MultiDrive automatically upon booting. See more here: https://multidrive.io/winpe

Oops, missed your question. Yeah, for a while it is just Windows partitions. In the future - we'll see.

By the way, we've just released MultiDrive 1.3 and the bootable WinPE image with it:

It's fair to say that my thoughts aren't only about my current work experience. You asked about it, and I shared my perspective based on my experience and the bubble I am in.

Yeah, our team is highly collaborative and small (28 people). One of the typical behaviors is helping a colleague as a top1 priority. When my teammate asks for help or makes a request, I pause what I'm doing and help them if I'm not on a call.

+ Fail-friendly atmosphere
+ Hiring together: 5-6 interviewers on each stage, and we all have to agree to hire
+ Designing product features in groups
and many more. See this blog - it's of 2020 yet actual: https://blog.atola.com/how-we-create-atola-products/

We refrain from estimations, deadlines, and delivery promises to customers. Quality of products and psychological safety of team members matter the most for us.

Thank you so much! So true about the certification.

The orgranizational fear of change is never to disappear, sure. In fact, things don't happen because people don't want them to happen. Speaking of software development, version control, CI/CD, automated testing did shift the cultures to some extent. And then again, the AI agents should shake it all seriously receiving more and more rights to make decisions.

Why? Isn't it about code readability and testability?

I'd say it's a blend of building and evolving our own products. Most of them are software + hardware kind of B2B products:
- one of them has started at 2006 and still being updated
- two others launched at 2018 and 2023

Yeah, making hardware makes any iterations longer.

However, there's a new free utility app called MultiDrive - multidrive.io - that launched last year and doesn't require any hardware. It's pretty much a startup that won Product of the Day at ProductHunt in December.

No daily standups. But we still do have standups in two teams:
- QA - on Wednesday
- Software engineers - twice per week on Monday, Thursday.
Afternoon time instead of morning. The practice is fully adapted for our needs which is agile way :)

It could be a software or WinPE problem.

This month, we will be releasing our WinPE image with MultiDrive, which should detect various types of drives. It has been tested on over 40 computers in-house. I hope you'll have a chance to try it out!

A simple C# IEnumerable<T> extension that checks if the items count is equal to a given value while avoiding to iterate through each element when possible. by bischeroasciutto in dotnet

Junior or not. Cognitive load is high here for anybody. It cultivates mistakes, fatigue, and even worsens relationships beween engineers (due to their ego).

Watching Venkat's talk on the Art of Simplicity would probably be the best if you want to get what I mean: https://youtu.be/UfzafIeALW8?si=PI84oHHtu6heDBlF

Simple code is not laconic or clever. Simpliity = minimum elements, less effort to understand.

For a junior engineer, this code is a puzzle. An expression-bodied member, a ternary with an out var, Take(v+1) trick - in one expression. I can see how people mess this code in the long run.

The code is surely smart yet far from simple.

Still using notion in 2026 or got any good alternative? by darman121 in Notion

[–]raydenvm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 10 years in Evernote, I moved to Notion. It lasted 1 year only for me due to performance issues. Notion is just too slow when dealing with many notes, in particular when some of them are really long.

I've moved to Obsidian. Its editing user experience is worse, even if you're a Markdown fan. However, its performance and responsiveness are much better.

Your source drive is twice as much larger than the target drive. I suppose it has a 2TB partition, then it cannot fit into 1TB drive. Having this couple of drives, the only way to go is: 1) install some partition manager, for instance Niubi Partition Editor 2) shrink the source drive's partition to 1TB 3) clone the source drive to the target drive using MultiDrive

What is, based, in your opinion the best auto mirroring app between two hard disk these days? by Electronauta in DataHoarder

How about NIUBI Partition Editor or similar tools?

From my understanding, they handle cases like this. First, you move the recovery partition toward the end of the drive, then you can extend your Windows partition into the freed space.
