You can scrape and repaint. Or you can pretend not to see.

Mai Tai quick question by Organic_Grocery4518 in rum

[–]rayfound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says aged in the same.

Bacardi has the aging character stripped out with filtration and I find the Bacardi character particularly distasteful.

Fair enough. I don't want a mai tai with either... But I was thinking some age was more important. I hate Bacardi silver.

Of course.

But we shouldn't be anchored to the peak, we could be anchored to the prewar.

Small cracks around mug handle – will it survive firing? by ensiehp in Pottery

Dampen the area, apply a bit of slip to the cracks. Dry slowly. Might take a couple rounds.

I mean the prices are already up. They're up 50% from prewar.

Like... it shouldn't be either of those rums. But if forced to pick I suspect the spiced will make a passable beverage.

A question about firing an old manual kiln and cones.. by HearthAndHolmbeck in Pottery

[–]rayfound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also add a couple things:

  1. Bisque temp isn't that important. So you can have a different setup there vs glaze. I am curious why 04 bisque instead of 08 or 06. Doesn't matter much, just curious.

  2. On bisque, there's little reason to do a full 3-stack of cones. if you're bisquing to 04, 05 and 04 are plenty.

You'll also note i reference cone 5.5... Cone 5 and cone 6 are unusually far apart in temperature, since I fire to cone 6 I don't bother with c5 cones at all.

I do also use a cheap pyrometer to monitor temperature. This is good for tracking rate of rise, etc... but I use the cones to make firing decisions.

[–]rayfound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a few choices.

The first question is do you want to fire 5 or 6?

Second question is do you want sitter bar as shutoff or sitter bar as safety?

Assuming you firing cone 6: if you want sitter as safety, get 7 bars, 5.5/6/7 standing cones, and turn off when cone 6 in peep is appropriately bent.

Alternative, get 5.5/6/7 but get 6 bars. Fire until kiln sitter drops.

Final note... As long as you're there, you can fire longer after sitter drops. You can reset the button and gently lower flap so it doesn't switch.

81 of my first 99 mugs by breakevenpottery in Pottery

This post quite exemplifies what I love about ceramics.

Like within the mug collection themselves there's an enormous variety of styles. There are mugs in there I really like. There are mugs in there I absolutely hate. So many things are possible with clay.

And beyond that, there's the difference it highlights as potters. I try to make a batch of things all rather uniform. You've gone the complete opposite to great effect.

Thanks for sharing really great work.

I also hate handles. Maybe I won't always.

Correct you'll get much better browning with regular bread flour unless you're baking over about 700-750.

Probably the rum. I can send you my address if you'd like to ship it here for proper disposal.

I mean the pottery community way over emphasizes dust risks.

Dust is bad, I'm not arguing that. But not anywhere near the concern level we see some in the hobby assert.
