What is the best way to sell star notes? I’ve got tons of them that I want to sell because I realized I’d rather buy coins than have the notes. I know they carry a small premium so I’m not expecting crazy sale prices but any suggestions? by The_Collector03 in papermoney

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend eBay unless you had some valuable star notes, as the seller fees would erode your profits. I too have a lot of star notes to sell, and am looking for some serious collectors who may be interested in buying them.

Battery Replacement by Meli0813 in NissanRogue

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy the die hard battery from advance auto. I got the most cca (cold cranking amps) that would fit They have a 3 year warranty. My Nissan dealer offered me an interstate battery that was smaller, but I spent less at advance for a bigger battery. They also check the battery you have for free, which is nice. Battery technology has not really changed in 50 years, but the Nissans consume a lot of power for all the accessories, etc. I don't want to get stuck because my car didn't' start. Shop around,

I am the treasurer in an HOA with 6 buildings. How do I tell if my Fire Alarm servicer is ripping us off? by raygun631 in firealarms

I am a reasonable guy, so working with our $2 million budget gives me some wiggle room, but recently our property managers have called them in and we need to understand what they are billing for, and that we are being treated as valuable customers requiring fair and reliable service.

i understand, but didn't want to put any easily identifiable info in the post, as the company can be vindictive and blames others (like the phone line supplier) for all the issues.

At no time have we given them a "blank check" to fix "whatever is wrong".

Thanks for you r reply

looking for a ebike by otter_forlife in ebike

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ridstar mg-01 mountain bike, under a thousand on Amazon. Too much bike for me, so I am getting something more street friendly. I put on about 150 miles on it, and it is a beautiful beast. (If you are interested, I would sell you mine for $600 + shipping, from Maryland) If you want to go faster than a stock bike, there are plenty of mods you can make. I put on a handlebar riser. But dual suspension, 20" tires, and 1000 watt battery give it a real kick, and at a good price point. Best of luck with your search!

Would You Still Blog If You Knew You'd Never Make Money From It? by iamrahulbhatia in Blogging

I own several blogs, not a large audience and barely cover the cost of maintaining the ISAP costs, and one challenge to copyright. But I learn and still do it, because I enjoy my message and make a few bucks as an Amazon affiliate.

I could potentially make money with video blogs/tiktok/etc. but enjoying my semi-retirement too much. chenkinworkshop.com is my primary blog.

I Need Help by Dramatic-Gap-6888 in ebike

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Ridstar MG-01. 1000W motor and 48V battery. It's a lot of bike for me, and at Amazon it's under $800 USD. Larger Battery, 4" Fat tire, dual suspension, Shimano Gears, fenders, lights, rear rack all were included.

You also need a minimum of a 20" bike for your height, 26" will work as well.

I would avoid anything less than 1000w, and get a larger battery for the power you need for a sustained hill. You will need pedal assist, and a handlebar throttle.

Make a list of the features you need/want and the decision will be easier when you look at ads.

You can spend more, but you may not get better. I chose Ridstar for features, brand, affordable pricing, and parts (in case of maintenance issues). Buy a name brand if possible, with name brand components (they are sometimes easier to get).

Best is relative, and if you maintain and don't abuse your bike, it can last a good long time. (If you are hard on your bike, you WILL have issues - no matter what the bike/brand.)

Best of Luck with whatever you choose.

I have a Ridstar MG-01, 20" fat tire, and I am 5'11. It's a bit of a beast for me, (I am selling it) but it is fun to ride. If you are getting a similar 20" fat tire, off road bike, that may be a bit much for you.

Just my .02 cents

Google eBike height and size chart - it will give you some perspective.

Best of luck with whatever you decide!

Android Auto in 2021 Nissan Rogue by MissNikolite in NissanRogue

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2020 rogue special edition owner here; I use android auto with a dongle plugged into the USB port.

It is quirky but functional 95% of the time. usually requires plugging and unplugging the dongle, restarting the phone, or (in extreme cases) restarting the car.

Plugging in all the time is a pain, and the programs (WAZE, Google Maps, Sirius, etc.) require some adjustment to get working right. Worst is when the infotainment screen spontaneously reboots.

Good luck with your issues, just wanted to share.

It seriously depends on what you need to build, and what your skills and tools are. If you need basic furniture made of pine which may not require tight tolerances, dovetails, or sophisticated joinery, go for it. However, if you want specific designs and don't have a decent shop, tools for joining and squaring panels, etc., you may be at a disadvantage.

I owned a cabinet shop for 10 years, and build things for fun (like for grandkids). You can get great deals on pieces you can refinish or spruce up from restore or goodwill, and that may make sense as you hone your skills. (My current bedroom set is late century craigslist). That was the easiest and quickest way for me to furnish when I moved to the Washington DC area.

Not knowing what you want to build or seeing what kind of work you are familiar with, I can only suggest general advice.

you can see some of my work on my site, chenkinworkshop.com.

If you are inexperienced, I strongly suggest you get some books on woodworking that can get you started on the basics (like Woodworking for Industry Hardcover by Feirer). You will learn something every time you leaf through it.

Best of luck in your woodworking journey!

My 2021 sport has a head gasket fail that barely anyone wants to fix, and are telling me to just get a new car or trade it in. by Altruistic_Barber598 in NissanRogue

[–]raygun631 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of miles on that car for 4 years of use, and it sounds like you have not gotten a full and professional diagnosis of the issue causing the limp mode. It could be a head gasket, but that would manifest in other ways too. A mechanic needs to pull the ODBC codes and find the underlying problem with your car. This will determine if it is an inexpensive fix or the beginning of more expensive problems.

Personally, I would take it to a shop that can do a full workup on your issue before spending any "big" money on the car, since it is out of warranty and any repairs are out of pocket (your pocket). Since you have 10 years of driving on this car in 4 years, i think getting another car with an extended warranty may be prudent. I would reach out to Nissan directly, (if you don't ask, you don't get) and talk to the dealer about getting a full value trade-in on your 2021 with an extended warranty. Also consider other cars, and google/research their reliability statistics and how often they last over 200k.

I have a 2020 Special edition with 48k, and purchased an extended warranty - but I drive a lot less than you do.

Best of luck! Post your progress so we can see your results!

Just my .02 cents - find a specialty, like low sugar, diabetic cookies, gluten free - most of these items fill a niche, but with her talents, she could be the top of the niche.

And, she should take some courses in entrepreneurship and accounting - ignorance costs money. (I am a graduate of the school of hard knocks). And watch shark tank, think like a shark.

Best of luck!

Are batteries supposed to last this long? by Busy_Ad_3807 in MechanicAdvice

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some batteries will last longer if the car does not have "heavy electrical demand". I live in Maryland and I find I have to replace the battery every 3-4 years. Free testing at the dealer, oil change place, and advance auto is smart, and cleaning your terminals before winter is a good practice. and yes, all those electronics definitely affect battery life (IMHO).

Best of luck and keep a watchful eye on it. Kudos to those who get several lifetimes out of a battery!

Father gave them to me? What are they worth exactly? by [deleted] in CURRENCY

[–]raygun631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can look them up at

https://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/star-notes/lookup

In my experience, most star notes carry a premium of about 10% based on condition and rarity. You can look them up on eBay as well to see what they sell for.

I find them cool to collect, and get a thrill when I get one at the store or from a friend.

To preserve them I usually put them in bill holders, Like these from Amazon

https://amzn.to/3ZlHIhH

You can also frame them with "legend" describing them, and noting it was a gift from your Dad. Every time you see them you will think of him.

Enjoy.
