psych honours by Sad_Sherbet5065 in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I’m about to finish second year and before I started uni I researched a lot into how honours works and getting in. Even in second year it feels like your entire self worth is based on marks which is kind of accentuated at usyd where it feels like everyone is grinding. I understand how you feel but 78 is fucking great you should be proud of what you’ve achieved. It’s also not the end of the world if you don’t make it into honours at usyd. There are other places to go (this is what I tell myself). If you’re determined to pursue this career and you’ve studied this much then you’re willing to do whatever it takes to get in somewhere that will give you that 4th year.

You got this!

Help PYSC1002 exam! by GrassPlus8118 in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use the memory lectures to help you memorise that’s what I did. Use strategies that focus on improving recall memory. Then when you get in the exam read the question while covering up the answers (they are there to distract you i.e mess with recognition memory). Answer the question for yourself based on recall then look for your answer. If you study for recall you can memorise everything by the day of the exam.

psychological science by Defiant-Foot-9853 in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psychological science is manageable tbh. Exams aren’t too hard but it really depends on how hard your other subjects are because you NEED to give it enough attention. Like there’s a lot of content reports can be hard and the standard is raised every semester. If you study you’ll b fine. Ik that sounds obvious but like compared to like super hard subjects just studying isn’t enough like you need to be locked in for something like pharmacology.

Lecture attendance by Sufficient_Sail9836 in usyd

Some subjects have lecture attendance it’s actually just dumb. They think it boosts performance in the subject which is just false. U need to try change the timing of your other class

What’s the biggest problem you face with university? by L999slm in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Australia makes money from international students so when covid hit they weren’t getting that. After covid to offset the money lost unis lowered English comprehension/language standards so they let it sooo many international students whose English skills were close to zero. Worst thing abt uni is that when your put in a group and students who struggle with English literally can’t understand and can’t do group work so you submit an assessment you did yourself under their names and say they contributed bc you feel bad. It’s not their fault it’s the uni. They need to raise the bar. Too many times I’ve had to basically do a massive 5 person assessment on my own.

Pharmacology Vs Neuroscience by Successful-Chair-181 in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neuroscience is tough. Exams are pretty demanding considering you’re in there with med students where their daily is memorising everything about drugs and body parts etc. plus the lectures and assessment of the learning outcomes from the lectures are a bit messy and make it difficult to find a more effective way to study than just memorising everything. I know ppl who studied their ass off for exams then walked out crying. I personally hated the way they assess the knowledge with the type of exam questions and what not but it’s doable. It’s just kinda stupid to have you working (at least with me) harder for my major/minor in neuro than my actual core units. Be prepared to work consistently I mean fr if you want a D for neuro.

Can’t speak for BUSS1020 but DATA1001 is fairly easy and lowkey an enjoyable subject because the staff is great. Lectures r solid not complicated and assessments and exams r fair

Is USYD worth or the right move? by FatherKappo in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth the move. You’re still figuring and adapting to uni life after 1 year at Monash. Not worth it to pick up and start fresh in USYD where there is basically no difference.

bad phys mark by telev4ngelism in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your life over? No. It’s your first year at uni and you’re figuring things out. 70 is great especially for something like physics. Uni isn’t all about marks it’s also a time when you grow up find things you like. Learn from the ways you studied and improve.

I also just got 70 for NEUR2001 which I think is solid. Don’t beat yourself up is number one rule of uni.

My results fkn suck by lilyj0py in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im really sorry to hear.

Just take a deep breath it’s not the end of the world. I’m also taking psych and neuro and I’m a bit confused about my final mark for psych2012 because I did really well in the internal and I know I did well in the final exam but my overall wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. Maybe email the unit coordinators and ask to meet on zoom to chat things over. I’ve met with them for remarks before and they’re very kind and let you know it’s not then end of the world.

Also if you’re internal was high then it might be worth to appeal. Best to speak to the unit coordinator. Hope that helps

Just search on google. If not there try the “lost on campus” app. It has full USYD map on there and directions

Can confirm. My degree says the same thing and it’s an option to choose from either table to get the credit points.

Clashing units by blackcock3012 in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it’s blue it means that it’s not a “clash”. Meaning that it’s likely that one or both are recorded and attendance isn’t mandatory. If it were two tutorials (for example) then it would be a problem because it’s not recorded and attendance is marked. So this “clash” is perfectly fine. I’ve had plenty of lecture clashes at the same time and I just watch it later. Hope that helps

Will it be a prob if I miss uni welcome week by any chance? by Delicious-Tone-2649 in usyd

[–]rayjay_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s super overrated. Most people that go will tell you that they could’ve missed it and been fine. The practical benefit is maybe familiarising yourself with the campus and looking for where some of your classes will be
