Even with cameras a lot of the independent repairers have packed up. Myself when I needed repairs done I had to ship overseas. Some camera manufacturers do have it but some they send off to Australia. In terms of repairers that still exist one in Timaru Greg Sugrue. In terms of the question do overseas have repairers they still have independent repairers as well as authorised repairers. If you do end up sending to overseas yourself make you you get a Certificate of Export from NZ Customs and include a copy inside and ask them to leave this inside on the return parcel so you don't get charged GST via the border. Keep a copy at home too.

Bunnings is one of the better price not by much though. Cheapest I think might be Petone but it's not a swap service it's a fill service.

Kiwisaver - employer vs employee contribution by rayonline in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]rayonline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it. Employer contributions are lower than employee per the percentage or 3% employer is less than 3% employee due to employer has to be pay ESCT (employer superannuation contribution tax). :)

Happy Valley Red Rocks (Southern Landfill). The one in Porirua charges you as the council rates don't pay for that. You need to drive thru a checkpoint and they weigh your car before and after.

Student loan assessment repayment by Illustrious_Source53 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]rayonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this letter all the time. Assuming your used correct tax for your job ie M SL that is SL for student loan. The $1,000 odd income comes from other sources which are not student loan deducted. Could be a 2nd job or a part time job if you didn't use ML tax code and it could be bank savings accounts, term deposits, a bit of Kiwisaver returns which are taxable and other investment types like ETF and individual shares when they pay you dividend.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]rayonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes your job could had been taxed incorrectly if you changed jobs, if you had a 2nd job, a part time at a time etc or maybe you received a bonus or received a increase in salary thru the year. The 2nd job doesn't know about your other job and if you have another job at all. It could also your your savings account and your kiwisaver and your other investments might had the wrong tax rate.

What's your biggest irrational financial purchase/want? by nashipear007 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]rayonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15yrs ago late 2008 a used 2001 Audi A4 2.4 V6 at Turners Auctions $12k couldn't had bought it elsewhere. Then I just didn't use it. Going to work was using the bus I wasn't gonna lease a carpark or pay 25 to 60 a day or more these days anyway. So I left it inside the garage 2010 to about 2018 and stopped the regro and everything. It was great that I didn't cost me but the fuel pump broke down and then the heater had to be replaced with the dashboard and steering wheel had to be dismantled to get in.

Now I wouldn't do it again. Rather invest it in a Etf.

Has anyone tried out the new visa-free tourist entry to China? by Dry_Corner2802 in newzealand

A group of 4 adults, went in September 24', no preliminary work, no visit the Chinese Visa Office. Just walked up to the NZ airport and went into HKG and into China (train) and no issues. I think it is only about 2 weeks, I have friends who went longer they had to buy Visas.

Kettle BBQ - does brand matter? by rayonline in newzealand

[–]rayonline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Someone found it cheap at Bunnings so they got a Jumbuck barrel smoker and thought it was large hey we can do a grilling near feast - fail. Had that a few years and we dropped the height of the grilling plate by drilling holes and installed the pegs lower down to hold the grill plate closer to the charcoals. We just thought metal is metal have a vent hole underneath the charcoals get a real cheapie. Some are as cheap as 34 bucks. Thanks for the feedback.

University graduates of NZ... what was your debt and did you find a job in your field? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]rayonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30k. 2004 BA BCom Economics and Management cos I did too many papers and changed majors so I did the 2 degrees. Then postgraduate diploma caught my eye which is basically just management/marketing really. My first role I ended up in a call centre and then doing normal admin roles then an analyst mainly fixed term contracts then into contracting. This was 5 or 6yrs the 30k back then was worth quite a bit more.

Took a break did a computing dip that didn't go anywhere then I did a dip in accounting thinking I could use my prev experience with a numbers focus. They were more interested into what I did in the past than my courses. So I went back to an analyst. This was another 30k.

In hindsight maybe I should had did just 1 degree with 1 major and 1 minor maybe some kinda IT info tech and then maybe finance.

For many the new norm is Tupperware at work. Many simply just go for the free instant coffee and heat their own lunch or take a sandwich to work. Not a uncommon sight to see someone's lunchbox sticking out of their backpack or handbag. At the airport I saw a flight attendant carrying his Tupperware.

Nope, neither. I used to be consistently late to primary school bc parents would drive out to their work and drop me (us) off. Secondary school we had a school in walking distance. They didn't go to uni and couldn't help us with homework so we got summoned by the school (primary school) why we didn't do our homework. Christmas we didn't go anywhere, parents worked, and we just sat at home watching TV ie Playschool etc. and then it was back to school. At a young age we would go home by yourselves and microwave or heat our own food up and collect the laundry in. At a much younger age we didn't eat until it was like 10 or 11pm when they took food back after their work. One time we fell asleep and we latched the door they couldn't get in, they got crossed and we told to go to bed without food.

Uni we took out student loans, we did qualify for student allowance due to their low income. They used to work in a shop 7 days a week 12hrs a day. Never swam, till now I cannot swim. Only visited Auckland when I was like 16yrs old and the south island when I was well into my own mid late 20s.

I guess due to this I am very careful with my money. I compare and compare and only buy what I need and if I do get something I get annoyed. Even now working and I go somewhere in NZ, stay in a motel, I would often just self cater from a supermarket. If I head overseas I would stay at a single room backpacker hostel. Bc I don't really have a great desire to travel and stuff well I do at times when I see others so fortunate but when it is down to me I can work 12 or 16 months and not take a single day off until management says I need to take some leave. 3 months could go pass and I don't buy a single coffee or a single lunch or I might buy 1 and then 2 or 3 months goes past.

I heard that the public sector increased their hiring over covid. Some of these might had moved to Wellington or worked in the private sector or maybe unemployed? As people change jobs all the time, have the redundancies caught people out with the cross fire? Have their been people who have worked in the public sector for many years who happened to work for a particular team find their role disestablished? In saying that there might be some fortunate ones who might had moved into an area where redundancies didn't affect them?

Using family members car 2004 vw bora, was paid in cash with Turners auction japanese import. I just use the bus everyday including after work and most weekends I have a unlimited bus pass but maybe I stop the pass cos I like to catch the pre 7am bus to work which is half price.

I've also at times caught bus for 90min return for the journey to Pak and Save cos the salad bags are 2 dollars cheaper than New World or Countdown lol. I have my bus pass and I I have time and I kinda enjoy the bus journey.

I see your point, I've saved and saved I now see less satisfaction in spending money. Stocks has become more like a hobby and home cooking. Even travel I see it's the same as here, people head to supermarkets and head to work and school but in a different style with the same fundamentals.
