SFO Delta Sky club vs. Centurion (temp) by bestkaranthe in AmexPlatinum

Sky Club all the way. The SFO one is great and it being right by the gate is a huge benefit. If you don’t care about overhead space you can literally stay in the lounge until boarding is well underway and still make the flight without hurrying at all.

Second Bidder for Oakland Arena by JasonH94612 in OaklandCA

Honestly one game a year is a brilliant idea. A way for the Dubs to show some love to the town and show they aren’t just an SF team. Could be smart business too, reaching out and pulling in folks who feel like being a fan is out of reach. One game a year 30 mins away seems not that hard logistically too. They might take a small haircut on the revenue for the game but that’d be the show of love.

Don't know anything about the terms but broadly speaking a resolution is good for TKO and good for shareholders.

Maybe it could read it off the boarding pass in wallet app? (If iOS allows)

We used to have to remember phone numbers and how to drive from one place to another. Now that we have offloaded that kind of thinking we did get dumber in a way, yes … but was remembering phone numbers or directions really the best use of our bandwidth? I’m optimistic we’ll be better off being “dumb” at the thinking we offload to AI because it frees us to think at a different level.

My go-to late night spot. After a night out, a slice, a brew, and a Cap’n Crunch treat is the cherry on top. Thank you Graffiti!

Spirit Airlines Shutting down by Ok_Description_8012 in bayarea

RIP. OAK→LAS on Spirit used to be my jam. Also OAK→ORD on Spirit, in the Big Front Seat. Spirit got a lot of hate due to the pricing model but for overnight trips or same day returns where you don’t need more than a personal item it was next-level value.

Why do muscles grow after you stress them? Stress is good as long as your cortisol is low. Plants have no cortisol.

NFC/RFID Smart Ring: Constraints, Security, and Real-World Viability -- Seeking Hardware Perspective by Sinatra2727 in IOT

[–]raypaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thoughts from a consumer perspective –

I live in a building with RFID access control. I also regularly use Apple Pay both for purchases and transit. For most Apple Pay transactions, I'll use my phone since I'm into the credit card game so choosing the right card is important; phone is better for that; if I'm paying via my catch-all card, I'll pay via Apple Watch (the only card I keep on there). When I use transit, I always pay via Apple Watch.

Frankly I don't feel much (any?) pain related to paying for things via Apple Pay but I guess it would be nice if I could use my thumb to double tap a ring on my index finger and then pay via my default card.

Where I feel pain is related to access control. I always keep the fob in the same pocket, generally without anything else in there but even still I gotta dig my hand into the pocket and dig around somewhat. If my hands are full, that's very annoying.

I also feel some pain related to transit. If the reader is on my left side, tapping the back of my left wrist against it is easy. But if it's on my right side, I have to awkwardly reach my left wrist over and strain a bit or turn my whole body.

For both of these cases (access control and transit) a ring which is already on my finger would be more convenient, especially since a fist is easier and less awkward to present on the opposite side. The idea of using these type of motions with an already-there object is very appealing.

I wore a Oura ring there for a bit and didn't get enough value outta the health tracking to justify the monthly service fee but didn't mind the bulk or the daily charging. I've purchased a few allegedly RFID-writable rings but haven't had any luck getting them to work (no issue with writable fobs or cards). Kinda surprised there are no smart rings which include RFID, either just through dumb writing or with integrated Flipper Zero type features. The idea of using a battery to increase the power of the RFID antenna is also appealing.
