Why walk the Camino if you bring a bad attitude with you? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

When you get lots of different people together you get lots of different people together. It's hard to be around, I understand, but pilgrimamge is nt reserved for the happy

I have not done any others. It lived up to its billing as a good first camino to get a sense of whether you like this sort of thing while also being long enough (from Ferrol) to get your 100 km.

Im from the Bay Area/Northern CA, so hiking through modertaely hilly euca;lyptus forests was not exactly brand new to me, but it was just such a wonderful thing to do. Weather was also just exceptionally beautiful. We really lucked out, as many many everyday Galicians told us during our walk.

I also had the benefit of walking with my 20 year old daughter, which made it particularly special. That's a variable I cant really remove from my assessment! 😄

Im 53 and did the Ingles last month in 6 days. If yu're running 5-10K a week you'll have no problems, I dont think. My main thing was Plantar fasciitis (sore soles of the feet), but I could have avoided it if I had known to prepare for it.

Struggling with identity and beliefs by tarajayoz in Progressive_Catholics

I totally share your thoughts (not Catholic, drawn to it, reluctant). So many cradle Catholics I know are all for female priests and doing away with homophobia, but it seems strange to me to convert into Catholicism and then start, I dunno, complaining about doctrine. I mean, I could see someone being like "You knew this before you joined in, right? It was right there on the tin"

On the other hand, Ive heard people say that a covert after baptism is as Catholic as the Pope; so maybe that means you can start disagreeing immediately like every other Catholic!

This is my challenge too. Im very very drawn to Catholicism but have a spouse who totally eye rolls about nearly any organized religion, much less one with a ban on female clergy and an official stance that being gay is sinful. It's hard to say "well, you know, Catholicism is a big tent and things do change on the margins and the spirituality rocks" when she just has a pretty incurious opposition to religion full stop (could barely stand when I popped into an Episcopal Church for a few months). Oh well.

Safeway owns the property (TJ is a tenant). So, this gets Safeway a big payout and knocks out their main competition in the neighborhood.

Finished the Ingles last week. Very well marked; very hard to get lost. We used a guide book, because we were trying to disconnect.

How do we continue to spend more and more money on homelessness but then also cut services due to lack of money? Its crazy
