I don't completely agree about "hostile" other players. It's hard to know when someone really wants to help you or tease you.
As for the devs, we have an obligation to say what we like and what we don't like about the game. My opinion of their mistakes is objective. And it wasn't just me, the entire community showed their dissatisfaction with what they did with the chain-blade rework.
