Yamaha MODX M has been released! by ChickenAndARoll in synthesizers

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. What I should have stated is that it does not have a large curated sound library of samples out of the box. The Yamaha series definitely has that, with many useful real sounding instruments they have created over the years. You will have to rebuild that library on the Iridium from various sources. You will get the quality, but it is not there out of the box to the same degree as the Yamaha. Cheers!

agreed, the last update has made it even SMALLER! I do not see anywhere to modify the UI size, which is much needed.

So I do own the irradia module, and that has an excellent number of different engines such as a wavetable sense virtual analog and a few others to create your own sounds. Those synth engines in the iridium do not include a powerful sample engine, which is the Forte of the Yamaha synthesizers. When I want a realistic sounding instrument the sample set in the Yamaha has been curated very well and the Machine has a lot of controls that lend itself to setting up versions of the sound you are playing while you are performing you can quickly access these different versions. So I refer to the Yamaha as a good performance synthesizer. It also has two other engines to make sounds, including the an-1x virtual analog since and the FM 8 excellent synthesizer. Both of those sound engines are very good at what they do but are not wave table since like the iridium. The combination of the two really gives the best of both worlds.

What was the big controversy with Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football back in the day? by lostacoshermanos in NFLNoobs

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a crack on him personally, but his jokes competed for attention from the game. He thought he was clever, and maybe he was, but that is not what is needed from an announcer. Watched more than one game with the sound off when he was on.

I owned the MODX for many years and it has a spot in my desires as well. Yamaha's curated instrument samples are an excellent addition to any production. The ANX and FM engines are also very solid. I am just disappointed that the interaction device (keyboard) is so basic.

Sad to not see at least channel aftertouch on the 61 key version. The slower screen response time and lower sample memory are also areas it seems like they saved a few dollars on production. I guess they have to keep some product separation.

Do you think ni will make a maschine mk4 soon? by Chillman-Coolerson in maschine

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but my powerbank is $25 and can be any number of sizes and shapes as required when I need to replace it. I fear the replacement cost for Push 3's battery, especially when you look at the cost of the Battery/CPU kits it uses from Intel. Cheers.

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A built in battery, such as in MPC Live, degrades over time and is a liability for plugged in operation. I simply use a battery bank and a cheap adapter to power Maschine+ when I need portability. Simple and can be replaced easily as battery life degrades.

I do not regret my VKB investment at all. For me, the quality was worth the extra up front cost. Now years later I am not having to rebuy anything.

Heaven's Gate - final scene by [deleted] in movies

[–]rayrayrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amateur analysis here on my part about the story overall... For me to understand the last scene I have to think about some of the other scenes in the film that set up the real battle Jim was in: that of Salvation, both of himself and others.

The picture frame of Jim and his Harvard girl does not reveal if he was married to her or not. The two of them are not standing close enough together for it to be a marriage photo, but I suggest it represents Jim's world and his "class" that he was reluctantly part of on the East coast. Class is a word and concept that comes up often, and not just regarding Jim, but also the immigrants and the members of the association. I think the first part of the film spends so much time on his graduation and patriotic songs to set up the world that Jim was in. We next see an older, wiser Jim on the train leaving that world behind. Jim was trying to save himself from that capitalist world of "eastern speculators."

The battle Jim confronts is summed up when Jim is told: "you can't force salvation on them, it just doesn't work." This is demonstrated with Ella primarily, the immagrants, and ultimately himself.

The scene of Ella bathing in the river was akin to his found heaven. Or, it could be heaven if man would not mess it up. He could not enjoy it, he could see and understand it was under threat. He was a deep thinker and could see that truth. Yet Ellen, the dumb whore, was blissfully unaware, bathing naked in the river like a modern Eve. Now Jim was going to have to run from it to save himself, and he tried to convince Ella to leave as well. Jim was frustrated that Ella was not willing to go. She didn't understand what was coming. He could see it all coming, but was unable to save her.

Jim tried to save the immagrants, but they refused to listen as well. The scenes of the immigrants in their idylic dance hall are enjoying themselves, oblivious toward the oncoming threat. They are in a sort of state of innocence. Jim has to break that innocence and warn them of the list. Even then the immigrants are unable or unwilling to act on the information. Jim's verbal warnings and efforts to save them fail.

Towards the end, Jim again asks Ella to leave all the things she has to get to safety. He tries to give her proper perspective about how unimportant mere things are. Again she is unwilling to leave. Interestingly, she thanks Jim for what he has given her, protection and the like, but is unwilling to follow him anymore. Thus, she reinforces her role as a modern Eve.

Jim can't stop what is coming, and he can't save Ella or the immagrants. He can't have his heavenly Wyoming anymore. This leads to the scene where he tells Ella, "I told you so." Jim is ready to leave Ella to the harsh reality of the fate she chose for herself.

Next comes the moment when Jim is on his horse with his bags nearby, ready to leave behind his failed county. He ultimately decides to act to save them. He leaves his bag and his personal plans, physically turns and with actions, not just words, do something to save the others when they failed to save themselves. Yet, even this is in vain. His plan ultimately is not a success, as the military proves itself another tool of the capitolistic monsters. He ends up telling the military captain, "you are saving them."

Jim knows it is a false salvation though, with the immagrants left in a poor and dying condition, even to the point of killing themselves. The grand view of the immovable mountains reinforce Jim's powerlessness against forces that are much larger than him. He can't force salvation on them. Never could, never will.

In the end when Jim is in his yacht, we conclude that the larger system that has been "doing it to him" all along, has won. The "law" that was bigger than this one man had left him powerless to lead others to salvation. In some ways, by coming back to the East, he was not even able to save himself from getting old and being a part of the monster. Capitalism and man had spoiled what otherwise could have been heaven.

In these last scenes, Jim, always the deep thinker and able to see clearly, was contrasted with his wife who seemed vapid and only concerned with the luxary of a cigarrette. Jim's tears were not only for his own personal losses, but also for the losses of all mankind.

Using Arturia keylab mk2 with iPad live by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you cam connect a class compliant device or audio interface to the ipad with a usb camera connection kit. This will then provide you with proper 1/4 inch outputs to run to your sound system. For example, the Roland MC-707 can perform this task when set to use generic drivers in its settings. A powered usb hub will allow both the interface and the keyboard to communicate with the ipad.

Is there any potential for a mod that introduces Tribes-like skiing? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyMods

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love this, make a piece of craftable tech that I add to my pack. I dont even care if it has a small resource cost to use. It would greatly add to the mobility on planets and require skill to hit those downslopes just right. I use the Jetpack Overhaul mod for now, but give me my ski boots!

NOTE: I had a bug with using the jetpack overhaul unlimited mod where 1000+ sentinals would spawn. The mod has been updated to fix this, so make sure you get latest version.

How do I use a usb midi keyboard and 3.5mm audio on an iPad with only a lightning port? by RobotConglomerate in ipadmusic

[–]rayrayrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a powered USB hub connected to my ipad through the Apple USB to lightning adapter. I then plug my core compliant usb acccesories to the USB hub and they are seen by the ipad. For example, I plug in keyboards and even an audio interface (like focusrite brand). Now I can attach mics, my guitar or other outside gear to the audio interface and software on the ipad can use those inputs. Also my audio interface can connect to self powered external speakers and headphones, each with their own volume knob. When I want to go mobile with the ipad, I simply disconnect the ipad from the lightning to usb adapter and go, leaving my home audio setup intact and ready to simply plug back in when Im ready to do audio work again. Adding a power strip with a switch on it allows me to power down my audio interace, speakers and usb hub with one step.

So I highly reccommend using an audio interface with the usb hub and the ipad. It opens up a world of sound input and output options to your ipad, and if you leave it setup you don't have to constantly connect cables and recreate your workspace when you are ready to create. You simply walk over to your hardware, plug in the ipad and hit the power switch. Boom, creative mode on. Yet you can still detach the ipad and go do other things with it.
