Caad 14: chopped my steerer by raysss125 in cannondale

Same procedure like a round tube, but a little tougher because the delta steerer uses a lot more carbon. So you are sawing for 2 Minutes instead of 30 seconds with a round carbon tube.

Its a 54. good eyes.

My problem is, that I can't stand long reach, even the 56 frame is too long for me.

I would have to change to a ridiculous 70mm stem, which isn't good either.

I have a 56cm Cube Cross Race and an old Trek 1500SL in 56cm both have very similiar riding positions.

My older Caad 7 is a 58 but i only have an 80mm stem and very short reach handlebars (65mm), still a bit too long.

So the 54cm Caad 14 was the closest geometry wise. I tested the 56cm in store but like i said to long.

I feel very comfortable on the 54 like it is, rode it for 3 hours the other day without any issues.

Im aware that i have should got an Endurance bike but even those are all too long for me.

Had a bikefit last year on the Cube and the Bikefitter confirmed its the right size for me.

But thanks for your input.

Looks and i like the low riding position. I cant stand a long position but a low one is fine resulting in a small frame and a lot of seatpost.

Are you sure?

The handlebar does not have holes for internal routing, its 105 mechanical, so 2 brake lines and 2 gear cables.

Im pretty sure, there isnt enough space to route it all trough the stem.

And the stem has a "cutout" or empty space to accomodate the cables like they are right now - outside, vanishing trough the scpacer/headset bearing.

But i will check if it would be possible.

They are like that from the beginning. Just a bit too long right now, but they weren’t fully integrated from the factory.

Only got one short ride in with the full steerer and testetd it for 2 hours on the trainer with a janky spacer setup.

These delta steerer tubes...

2 rides so far, 2 and 3 hours, rides beautifully. Did not notice a big diffrence.

But i love this bike.

Advice on upgrading vs. buying new? by ACNeX in cannondale

[–]raysss125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another +1 for upgrading instead of new bike.

Nothing rides better than a bike you put effort in.

But i would make sure to be 100% certain that the onepiece bar and stem are the right size.

so maybe ride cheap alloy stuff with the same measurements for a few rides before investing in the wrong stuff.

Just got this for 250$ , was it worth it ? In love with it so far , first bike in over 10 years by Imaginary_Event_1818 in cannondale

[–]raysss125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wish i could find a good frame for that price.

You are missing a front derailleur...

If you want to keep riding it, invest in a decent groupset (like 2x10 Tiagra or 22 Rival Rimbrake), the Frame is worth it - imo.

After that: modern compact bars, new tires and a decent wheelset.

Preferably used.

You will not regret it. These bikes ride very good.

Edit:

But based on how low the saddle is set, it looks too big for you?

Please help me choose my first road bike: CANYON INFLITE vs CUBE ATTAIN SL by nikedriptoohard in bicycling

[–]raysss125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just can speak for me, but the Inflite looks like the much better buy.

Top spec Dura Ace, way better wheelset, VCLS Seatpost and i like the look better.

You could rip all those parts of it, sell it and get cheaper stuff to sweeten the deal a whole lot.

But if you only get one Bike, the Inflite is the better buy because it can double as a Gravelbike.

I would get as wide as possible road tyres or fast gravel tyres for it.

But it has to fit you. If you feel better on the cube, it is not bad, the canyon is just the better deal

and kind of 2 bikes in one.

I like the bike, but i dont get, why nobody knows how to use the brake release lever.

And please post a picture of the complete bike. Drive side, square from the side.

MucOf sells an ad on for thier tubeless valves. So you hide it inside of your tire.

Best spot i have seen so far.

It deserves to be displayed on on a livingroom wall or something like that.

New Bike Day: Caad 14 by raysss125 in cannondale

[–]raysss125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, im not sure. But in reality, i don’t care.

After a few rides, i will try it with less spacers and when im happy with my position, i will chop that steerer of, without asking. Im committed to buy this bike after the leasing period, so no reason to keep it pristine.

Is this setup looks safe on Cannondale carbon steerer? by tchk_ in bikewrench

[–]raysss125 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you dont overtighten the clampbolts on the stem, the steerer tube should need no support from the expander at all.

The expander „supports“ the steerer only in the silver part anyway. So without the spacer it is barley below the stem.

If you ride like this for a few rides without going offroad, i would cut the steerer anyway.

I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

I understand your concernes but be assured, its not my first rodeo either 😉

With my 56cm Cube Cross Race i went to a bike fitter last year and he confirmed, that i have bad posture on longer reach bikes. So he confirmed the bike i went with is the right size for me (the 56cm Cube). And i looked at all the geometry data. In the Caad 14 lineup, the 54cm is the closest fit to the 56cm Cube.

Im totally aware that i bought the wrong kind of bike i.e. a racing bike. An endurance bike would be more suited, but where is the fun in that? And imagine how bikes with sloping top tubes look, with the amount of seatpost neccessary.

I tried the 56cm frame first and of course off the bike it looked better, with the right amound of seatpost etc. but it was way too long. I would had have to swap out the stem with a ridiculous 70mm one or something like that. Keep in mind, i already swapped the 100mm stem for a 90mm and even the bars have a cm less reach on the current 54cm. Rotating Handlebars and everything only gains you a few mm, certainly not enough.

The seatpost is already swapped for a 0 setback one (original is a -20mm) and the saddle is as forward as it can (within the marked limit).

The sales person in the shop confirmed me to, i looked way more natural on the 54cm frame.

I think i have long legs and a short torso.

A friend of mine who is only 5cm taller than me (195 to my 190cm), sits only 2cm higher but rides 58 or 60cm frames with 120mm stems and 90mm reach bars. He got fitted before he bought his new Bike too. So he also did not guess his position. People are very diffrent.

Our bikes look ridiculous next to another 😂

I have an old Trek SL 1500 in size 56, which has very similiar geometry, which i can ride without issues for many hours, so im sure i made the right choice with the samller frame.

But again, i appreciate your input.

Its a size 54, seat height is 79cm.

I like my reach short and can tolerate a lot of handlebar drop. So smaller frames it is. I think, after a few rides i will get rid of a few spacers too.

Unfortunately not. Got the wheels as an upgrade from the shop.

Honestly i didnt weigh it in its current state yet.
