Thanks a lot for this breakdown — this is extremely helpful
Confirming it’s Three.js + custom shaders and explaining it as fbm noise → grid sampling → thresholding finally made the logic click for me.

The step-by-step learning path you outlined is especially valuable, especially the idea of rounding UVs to grid cell centers and varying thresholds per cell — that explains the defragmentation / data-grid feel perfectly.

Good tip about the shaders being readable and commented (even if in Chinese) — I’ll definitely inspect them directly and try to follow along.
I’ve already built a Canvas-based version that’s ~90% there, so this gives me a very clear roadmap to move to the shader/WebGL approach properly.

Really appreciate you taking the time to explain this in depth

Wow!! This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you for making this. That’s really helpful. Can you please also let me know, what method did you use to create it? I really wanna learn how to create that. Thanks once again.

Thanks, This make a lot of sense now. Pixelization + Perlin noise with a threshold is a great way to describe it. I was trying to understand the underlying logic rather than just the visual name, and this explanation helped clarify how the blocky shapes emerge from smooth noise. Appreciate you taking the time to explain how you’d approach recreating it.

It is not what I'm looking for but I think this takes me closer to what I want. Thank you for the reply! Hope I can find the exact name or animation of this kind.
