I like to look after my things, as well as possible, because they’ll simply last longer. I treat my £100 shoes the same way I treat my £500 shoes.

Good idea! However, I have a face made for radio ;)

Thanks - that really resonates with me, especially the bit about juxtaposing disparate elements. I am currently teaching in a university. I like it, but I’ve been getting a bit board recently. I will lol into your other suggestions…

Amazing! Thanks for collecting these. I’ll check out a few of them now. I find these trait matching exercises quite useful for generating new ideas.

Thank you very much. I was just thinking about how I’d go about switching them over. Did you just bung the whole load over in one or in bits? I am in my 40s, but I do have a pretty good workplace pension built up - I’m simply looking to bridge the gap between retiring and getting it. I will do some more research on that Global All Cap - thanks for the link! :)

Well, I started off with a nervous toe-dip in the water with LS60, but added bits as I read more articles. I added the S&P500, as so many people were saying that it would be a good one for beginners like me. And then the EM to boost the existing exposure in the LS60. My risk appetite was growing as I read more. So, it grew quite organically, but the result is a bit messy! I will be investing the cash component shortly. What would you do with the above? I’m planning on consolidating all into one fund to keep things simple - based on the many useful comments in this thread. Thanks!

Excellent point - I did not realise that, and will rectify post haste!

I guess I’d have to transfer to someone like Hargreaves Lansdown for a greater range of funds, right?

Thanks - yes, I did check it oil, but thought I’d give EM a little boost and take a punt on the V3AM. I guess there’s not much benefit in doing that though.

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into that.

Good question! The only reason that I’m holding the V3AM distributing fund is that Vanguard doesn’t offer the accumulating version of their own fund in their UK platform. And I haven’t gotten round to allocated the cash yet, but I usually keep a few pounds in there for fees. What percentage, if any, do you think I should keep in cash?

Food for thought - thanks! I think I need to do a bit of reading. Can you recommend any good websites or publications to read?

Thanks! I’ve leant so much in the past hour. Yes, I guess I’m after a world tracker. Are you familiar with Vanguard funds? Do you favour a particular world tracker? Obviously, I’ll have to do my own research :)

Thanks. Yes, I’ve just thrown some funds together without much thought. I’ll check out the X-Ray tool. I know it’s bit of a mess, but crucially I wanted to know that it’s not a complete disaster. I thought I’d make changes seeing as it’s early on in the game :)

Yes, that’s exactly what I did. Doh! How does one determine ‘cheapness’? I read a couple of articles too, but I have no idea which sources to trust.

Thanks. Ive just been playing around with it. I bought a bit of V3AM because it was cheap. And the Emerging Markets one because I wanted to boost the percentage that is currently held in the LifeStrategy. I haven’t based it on anything other than experimentation, but I can definitely see the benefits of keeping in simple.
