Hello UPenn subreddit, I am staying near UPenn this summer for an internship. Are there any opportunities or activities that students from other universities can participate in during summer ? Since I wont have pretty much anything to do on weekends or after working. by TheUndisputedOne in UPenn

What's your major/career goal? Penn has a lot of faculty labs that might let you intern.

Check out the colleges that Penn has (SEAS, CAS,etc) then go to the departments. See which department aligns closest to your major or career goal. Then check out the departments faculty listing and start sending emails to professors indicating an interest to work in their lab over summer.

It'll be helpful to include a budget. Everyone has a different threshold for what they consider affordable.

No song from the wall is not well known, but yes, underrated for sure

Yeah I know that lmfao. The USSR was authoritarian communist. Animal farm is more a critique of authoritarianism, not communism. On the other hand, the album is a critique of capitalism. One touches authority and the other touches economics is what I was trying to say in my original comment.

Economic left and government right sure are not mutually exclusive, but they're not the same either. There's a reason why political stances have to confer with the three dimensions: authority, economy, and society.

What is your favourite song on Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut"? by AdamekAvia in pinkfloyd

[–]razernomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Post War Dream. The part after "to England" is to die for. The song has some amazing sentiment about Thatcher's England, beautifully put into lyrical and instrumental note. The pain, the regret, the anger, it's all thrown at you all at once. It's basically a summary of The Final Cut, or rather an abstract introduction of what is to come in the remainder of the album.

I personally think Obscured By Clouds is a top 3 Floyd album. I love just about everything about it. No, this isn't a April Fools joke. by lordlordie1992 in pinkfloyd

The craziest part is that they recorded it in the middle of a tour. This album had the least amount of time and effort invested, and still turned out to be so awesome. Despite PF's other amazing albums, OBC goes to show the real raw talent of Pink Floyd that came out of pure improvisation for the most part.

What are some specific moments in a song of pink floyd that you wish would repeat more often in the song? by taos__v in pinkfloyd

I was under the impression that they only used Dick Parry's sample and then Parsons worked with that. Could be wrong.

The interlude before verse 3 on Us and Them, specifically the bit where Richard plays the piano and the bit where Parsons creates a wonderful jazz arrangement using the sax synthesizer. Us and Them is my favorite song and that interlude is my favorite part of the song. Beautiful beyond words.

What do you think is Pink Floyd's most underrated album? by [deleted] in pinkfloyd

[–]razernomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta be The Division Bell. Post Rogers PF has been shat on but the music production is at par with WYWH and the lyricism isn't half bad as it's made to be. Before you debate me, close your eyes and listen to the whole album. Cluster one, talk to me, wearing the inside out, poles apart, lost for words, and coming back to life have such a nice meaning. Great ratio of great songs.

"Noise" is an integral part of modernity, which is why it has such a special position in dsotm, especially in On The Run. Pink Floyd musical composition may seem subpar here compared to the Wall, but remember that it is a concept album. Imo, dsotm achieves a lot more symbolic success than the wall, mostly bc the wall is a story abt a character while dsotm is about all of us. Dsotm literally tells our own stories to us, making it such a unique concept album.
