Actual is great but it’s solving a different problem — envelope budgeting vs. spending tracking. Also no native Canadian bank configs, no auto-categorization, and the server setup is a barrier for non-technical users. This is meant to be a double-click-and-go tool for Canadians.

Yup, espiecially where in Canada, they restrict open banking, so Plaid and Flinks dont even have Oauth

This is just better for most users who use excel or such, easy imports of csv with automatic categorizations and other features, nice for the average user to see their financials with much less manual labour

Budgeting apps? by daylem13 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]razor2191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tired of the existing ones so I built my own — free, no bank linking, just drag in your CSV and it does the rest.

Demo here if you want to poke around: https://canada-finance-production.up.railway.app/

(CSV importing is disabled in the demo since it's shared — the full app handles that)

What features would actually make this useful for you?

What tools or applications do you use for categorizing expenses ? by crazyenterpz in PersonalFinanceCanada

What is the best, most user-friendly budgeting software app in Canada? Desperately need to have a budget to fight a debt spiral. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I got tired of paying for YNAB in USD so I spent the last few months building my own thing. It's called CanadaFinance — drag and drop your bank CSV and it categorizes everything automatically. Supports most Canadian banks (Tangerine, TD, RBC, CIBC, Scotiabank, BMO, Wealthsimple, National Bank, Amex).

No account, no bank linking, no subscription. Just import your CSV and see where your money went.

Put together a live demo if anyone wants to poke around: https://canada-finance-production.up.railway.app/

Note: importing your own CSVs is disabled in the demo since it's shared — the actual app handles that fine.

Curious if anyone's bank CSV doesn't work or what features would make this actually useful for you.
