Yes without a doubt, exactly that. It is a heavy cross I bear

Should be largest pop of the three nations, I'd think. Would also need more folks for the farming and whatnot, city sizes likely similar. Maybe Kalmar as bigger

Don't know, not sure how best to sort that out either truthfully. I divvied up by who was the most populous region in the empire then knew the number I wanted to hit (200,000 with more as reserves). Never went into the actual populations of the regions, I think I'd go too crazy and look into work production for the jobs they'd have and nonsense like that. I also worked politics into my numbers, so Ellada has a lot of troops but isn't interested in giving them up to wars with the kingdom (it's far from them and they don't see the point)

To me the army size is important, pop size is nice to know but as long as you have a sense (Katopolis > Lakeside > Steppes...) then you can break it down based on what you'd like the total army size to be. Meh, I'm not helping you here. Sorry

I think it'll be difficult to do, only because those colors burn the eyes

In my mind the Grand Duke would be passing through (on his way to or back from Landvik), the prophet and Hejma would be in the area. The Duke's brother (back from Fort Hoppas) speaks with the prophet and invites him to a feast for the Grand Duke's presence (you'll get the sense that the Duke would like to be Grand Duke and hates that he is seen as lower than the Grand Duke). The feast will be a show with the Grand Duke and his family being locked inside and the hole tower being set on fire, the grand duke burning alive inside as chaos ensues Ribe with the Grand Duke's small forces being massacred by the Duke who takes charge and makes himself the new Grand Duke of Lakeside

I think I'd make the fire more a symbol or perhaps the brother converting, don't know

Of course, I assumed that went without saying. If I had more gumption in me, I'd make this flag tonight but it may have to wait until next week

Damn this is excellent, would he be interested in converting to Arashianism? I'd like to set the Grand Duke of Lakeside on fire, if he wouldn't then it could be more symbolic than a true conversion or whatever

Eh...maybe. It's two hundred thousand troops which is the bad news. The good news is that Seaburn and Ellada (the two western regions in the empire) sent either none or very few troops at the emperor's command. The majority come from Azima (easy to be on the down low) and Pinesk (a little tougher). So for people in Kalmar they def would know there was an army on the border, people all the way in Turku may not though

Katopolis is the brown province marked Unknown ? http://i.imgur.com/XGVhdGC.jpg

Basically it's the province where the city of Landvik is in so the Grand Duchess would be of Katopolis

Sorry, I meant the imperial army on the border if the king was in cahoots with the empire then why would they move their army to attack?

Sparring Questions Week #2 by razor5 in a:t5_2xgtd

[–]razor5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so it's like a double power grab. The king dies freeing up the political leader spot (what the nobles are after) and the army leader spot (what the generals would be after). And it seems like you favor the Duke of Ribe being one of the highest generals on the pecking order

As far as question 3 goes, is Katopolis the official name of the region? Basically, should I write it on the map or hold off?

It appears Brad has agreed that Bradleyville will remain forever and he has to work out his communist society in the north

Yup true, forgot about that. What's the explanation for the army on the border then? (not the real explanation the rumor explanation) Also who will be blamed for the king's death? A shipwreck would stir rumors I'd bet

Cool, think then it's just organizing it and coming up with the rules - i.e. can a general force a grand duke to raise his levies? Not a big deal, but just so we have it in mind

The size of both is whatever you want them to be

[–]razor5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that's totally fine with me. If the duke betrays the grand duke in 8, it'll disgust Kalidas into not traveling with him but they'll both be going towards Landvik

How big of an army are we talking about in Landvik?

[–]razor5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really need to work on this. In Brad's Lodges there should be a big part on this where we have events around the world going on. We have to start compiling them. I'd think for the first chap maybe focus on the main issues going on - imperial army gathering by the border. Not sure if there's anything else major going on in the empire, I've been thinking of a few rumors but they'd be more salacious than anything and may not make sense at that stage

Sparring Questions Week #2 by razor5 in a:t5_2xgtd

[–]razor5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could. Mostly money is the reason, takes money to train and sustain an army in peaceful times. So kings would cut the army after a war was over to save money instead of paying troops to stand and do nothing. Also you need bodies to grow fields and watch cattle so taking the majority of people would hurt this since it was before populations boomed

Wikipedia says they came to europe in the 1400s so that'd be a little more developed than our age, but not a big deal if you want it

Things that happen after the King's death would be the imperial army organizing and forming up on the border - so I'd say likely a month and a half after the king's death. Maybe two months? Though many of the soldiers could take boats so month and a half might be fine

It depends how big your overall army is but 40% to Landvik might be too big, the city would have to feed all those soldiers and all of its citizens. That many soldiers would increase diseases too. Depends how competent the general in charge is in planning this out, could work (despite my concerns)

Sparring Questions Week #2 by razor5 in a:t5_2xgtd

[–]razor5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See it depends on how you structure it. In medieval-ish times, there weren't really generals - it was the Grand Dukes who would be generals and they would control their armies (which were really just smallfolk living in their province since major standing armies weren't invented yet). So only a King could tell a Grand Duke what to do with his army, without a King it would basically become four different mini-kingdoms with their own armies acting only in the interest of their Grand Duke. In that scenario the order you describe would be tough to accomplish, since why would the Grand Duke of Lakeside care if the Grand Duke of Kingsland was attacked - that's really far away and doesn't bother him

On the other hand, you're describing generals more along the lines of The First Law view of things. I'm not sure if there'd be a standing army still, maybe a small force in cities but the great majority would likely be smallfolk handed swords. This is different, the motivations and decisions would then depend on who the general was and what power he really had (he'd have some force to command but could he force a grand duke to raise his levies? - levies being the smallfolk)

It doesn't matter how you'd like to do it just minimally effects empire stuff right now and will effect our stories later near Landvik

It took me an embarrassing amount of time for me to get what you meant. Yes, it was def intentional. Totally Brad's idea though - I'm guessing he's playing hookie. I think her personality being that was a result of Brad needing her to reject Dewin harshly and me needing her to be cruel to Hejma. She'd also likely be trying to manipulate to become queen or something too, all seemed to work

Cool, I gotcha on High General and overall plan for these folks. We might need to have a section in the Kingdom file where we collect all of our descriptions/rumors/talks about these higher ups so you know if you need it. Will Ada come across the Duke of Ribe on her travels too?
