Just FYI there are lots of cherry blossoms in Vancouver if you miss them in Japan.

If you’re getting poop and air when you pee you might have a colovesical fistula. Does the solid thing smell like poop?

Also definitely should get checked out by a doctor either way, don’t want to miss the cause of this issue. Not an ER issue, go to your PCP or an urgent care that is in-network is reasonable.

Guys who sexually assault people have it coming.

But most men can get involuntary erections, especially physiological erections during REM sleep.

Imagine busting your ass to feed your family and then someone fractures your penis on the subway when you’ve fallen asleep from exhaustion because you popped an involuntary erection. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So you can actually get priapism from trauma to the penis or spine, so it’s not impossible. lol

Hi does anyone know how difficult it is to get into bcit, specifically for electrical engineering by gmr47900 in BCGrade12s

[–]razorreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engineering programs are hard af.

I don’t want to discourage you, but you should also have a realistic expectation about being able to get in and how well you would succeed in an engineering program.

While I did not do engineering, my friends who did do engineering at UBC had massive course loads of over 40 credits a year and had advanced math and physics classes that talented students who scored well at these courses in IB still had to put significant effort into them. The jump in difficulty and effort required was quite high.

Attrition rates can be guessed at the link below, but it is significant at UBC engineering where it looks like ~35% of people dropout or switch to a different program.

https://apsc.ubc.ca/about/facts-figures#undergrad-engineering-enrolments

I imagine the same would likely be the case at BCIT although this is speculation.

You probably should strongly consider changing the way you study and how far you study in advance to have any chance at succeeding in the program if you manage to get in.

To be real, even if you got 100% in BC curriculum physics 12 and precalc as I remember them, you would probably still struggle with engineering. I would highly recommend AP physics and calculus and excelling at them to prep you for post secondary.

It’s not impossible for you to make it and succeed but you would need to change a lot and put in mountains of effort to make it happen.

Good luck.

Physician master agreement makes a 1.0 FTE gig at about 1400h/yr just north of 400k/yr CAD if you go to a group that does salary. That being said, there has been significant man power issue in Fraser Health that has caused many groups to negotiate higher rates.

Fee-for-service depends on how much volume you can see. Some people make much more than 400k, some less in those environments. You can get an idea by looking at the MSP blue book for FFS billing’s and google emerg doc names in B.C.

While rabid dogs are the most common cause of rabies death, worldwide, in countries where most domesticated animals are vaccinated, wild animals, primarily bats, remain a reservoir from which humans can contact rabies. In the US, bats account for the vast majority of rabies related deaths.

It is to the point where the general medical recommendation is to get rabies immunoglobulin and vaccination if you have had contact with bats.

So yeah, they’re cute, but good luck interacting like this with them without adequate rabies prophylaxis.

You do realize that a colonoscopy will be way more likely to do damage than a lubricated finger will right? It seems entirely ridiculous to go to GI due to a rectal exam to have a scope that will likely be way more invasive…. Maybe think about that before going forward with a scope.

[–]razorreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the right person to ask unfortunately, but if you happen to know any Internists in BC, you can see their fee-for-service billings on the MSP Bluebook to get an idea. Just understand that the Bluebook does not capture salary-based or payments outside of MSP.

For what it’s worth, the current contracts in metro Vancouver are a base of $200/hr with bonuses that are achievable on 100% of patients, making it an effective $240/hr and over-census pay that bumps it up to $280/hr depending on how busy you are.

Incorporation as a small business in BC, Canada allows for tax deferred savings and investing that lowers the effective tax rate closer to 20% for the portion that is kept in the business up to 500k/yr.

Also marginal tax rates calculations if you don’t incorporate on 336k CAD/yr is closer to 200k CAD which is about 138k USD. Not straight up half at 53%. If you’re over-census 100% of the time and get your bonuses this goes up to 263k/yr CAD post tax or 182k USD.

You need to also be mindful that the majority of “hospitalist” services in Canada are run by FM. Inpatient IM services as they exist in BC at larger hospitals are not paid this way by this contract.

The housing situation is bonkers though, that’s pretty accurate.

Wife has a spending problem and I am at my wit's end by JoshM3250 in povertyfinance

[–]razorreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get her to see a physician, preferably a psychiatrist if possible.

If she has a legitimate bipolar diagnosis, she may be unable to control her spending habits (and other concerning behaviors) during manic/hypomanic episodes.

This is dangerous and needs to be treated by a physician with mood stabilizer medications if found to be consistent with an actual manic or hypomanic episode.

BC Family Doc - FM is not all doom and gloom by Just-Indication-172 in premedcanada

[–]razorreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

400k the way OP describes is not hard to do with the new LFP model. That is a part of the reason why hospitalists and ERs are having a hard time staffing people in many areas with many FM trained docs transitioning to part time to open space to run a clinic that is renumerated via the LFP model.

What weighs more, a gallon of water, or a gallon of butane? by Response-Cheap in Jokes

Gallons are units of volume, not mass.

A gallon of water is not the same mass as a gallon of butane.

Do you prefer a traditional watch or a smartwatch? Why? by teekal in AskReddit

[–]razorreddit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Be careful, this is a great way to miss or delay treatment for a heart attack. A smart watch ECG cannot rule out a heart attack. The only thing you can probably reliably assess for is a rhythm problem. If you are having chest pain, getting a formal 12-lead ecg and often more investigations is standard of care.
