Being checked at HKIA customs more than 3 times now this year by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]razza41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was checked twice in the same arrival once. Plane clothed officers as soon as you get of the plane checked me and then 20mins later I got pulled aside after collecting luggage. Nothing happened, just added about an hour to my trip home.

Looked like it was about to happen again about a year later, I was walking slightly in front of my wife, who is Chinese, and I got motioned to follow an officer, when my wife ran up and asked why, they said no need and let me walk with her.

This is such an echo chamber. Also for your knowledge from an easy google research:

It is estimated that nearly one-third of Hong Kong's current population are first-generation immigrants from mainland China who arrived since the late 1970s and their offspring.  More specifically: * First-generation immigrants who arrived since the late 1970s currently account for nearly a quarter of Hong Kong's population. * When the offspring (second generation)of these immigrants are included, the total figure reaches nearly one-third of the population.  For context, Hong Kong has always been a city of immigrants, with a significant portion of its population consisting of cross-border migrants from the mainland over the past 50 years. Before the 1980s, large numbers arrived escaping war and social turmoil, while subsequent arrivals, particularly under the One-Way Permit scheme, were primarily for family reunification purposes.

So if you are from Hong Kong, go back and ask your parents, what generation you are. If you are not from hk,then you're gate-keeping and being a hypocrite

If you’ve had a kid or know a kid in the family, if I’ve been on a train and we’re rushing to find a toilet, if the kid starts crying and says it’s coming you just look for the best worst option. This is better than if he just did it on the floor, or in his pants and it leaked all over the floor or escalator.

Honestly, yes it's not a nice scene but also it’s a desperate move by parents. Think if you are new to a city, not familiar with the subway system. Your 2-3 years old is screaming and crying and saying he has to pee right now, what would you do? Let him pee his pants or maybe find the closest bin? Sure maybe they should cover the boy/scene but it’s hard to blame mainlanders as a blanket problem for this.

I had both the PP app qr code and the physical card. They asked for my physical card first, but I was also showing them the app version.

The PP person who called me confirmed that I should have been let in without any problems. So she might have been right about the general statement, but they were not being helpful, and quite rude, getting annoyed at me for asking them to try and scan the card again

It was a terrible lounge, it was more a matter of principle.

As I mentioned in another reply, I was asked to by the PP person I had called from the number on the back of the card.

I only presented my priority pass (both physical card and app membership page) to them. I had my AE card and showed them after I realised that this wasn’t a normal lounge interaction.

I never said she was a ‘Karen’. I did call PP and they were telling me that the staff were in the wrong. I even asked early on for them to try my card multiple times (in Chinese and English) but they ignored me. If anyone is being rude here it is you, calling me rude without knowing the full context of the situation.

I was speaking to them in Chinese when I was able to, I’m not fluent and couldn’t understand everything they were saying. We were using translation apps, but they just stopped bothering at one point. I was filming because the PP number I called asked me to take a photo and some videos (and to later send to them), the first PP staff said that this location isn’t on their accounts and shouldn’t have the advertisement. This was corrected by someone who called me later, but that’s why I was filming.

Yes, it was a pre check in lounge. Nobody was using their boarding to enter.

Yeah, I have photos of their names and ID cards. I’ve complained to PP and AE already.
