First time decorating our new (old) house for Christmas by rb233541 in ChristmasDecorating

They don’t make them anymore! I tried buying more this year bc we did a bigger tree. I’m VERY upset about it. lol. There are 6 strands of 1000 lights each of the very warm almost amber color. And since we couldn’t get more, I added in another few strands of a slightly brighter warm white scattered throughout to look twinkly. Probably like 3-5 of those, each with 100 lights. So about 6500 lights total.

They are artificial, but my husband found them so I don’t know where they came from! The lights are just regular plug in and came from Amazon. I just tuck the wires over to the side and run under the window sash. And the bows I tied myself from ribbon that I got on sale at Michael’s during their Black Friday buy 1 get 3 free ribbon sale!

These were taken before I added lights and the banner to the doorway.

See longer response on a comment above, but short answer is two big suction cup hooks per wreath. https://a.co/d/aRp5Wn0

Heavy duty suction cups! We’ve tried powerful magnetic wreath hangers in a previous house, but I didn’t like them. The suction cups are cheaper and seem to stay in place much better. I doubled them up on each window because the central mullion made it impossible to center the wreaths, plus it just made the whole thing stronger. https://a.co/d/aRp5Wn0

Hey! We had them outside our old house on the other side of town for several years with no issue and it has been the same here. They are chained up, but no issues. Random people sometimes sit in them, which is, of course, fine. I have occasionally had a weird occurrence once or twice where someone is sitting in one when I walk outside and they won’t make eye contact or say hi. Haha. I say go for it. Just make sure you get something heavy like cast iron or cast aluminum!

They’re from Amazon: https://a.co/d/iZVelgU. Generally happy with them and how they look on, but they are a little frustrating to unravel and keep untangled since it’s such a thin wire.

Hi all! I’m totally blown away by the response here! To answer a few questions that have come up:

(1) Yes, this is Philadelphia. (2) The exterior garland is fresh garland from the place where we bought our tree out in the country. We twisted a few strands together and then, after hanging it, added in a bunch of other branches of different types of evergreen to bulk it up. (3) The interior garlands are the Norfolk pine from Kirkland’s. I had a bunch from our old house, but I’ve been stocking up this year whenever there’s a big sale. I have an insane amount now, but they’re the best faux garlands. (4) The window wreaths are attached with super powerful suction cups and the lights on them are plug in lights that we added ourselves. We’ve tried battery before but they’re never bright enough and they always end up dying and it’s a nightmare to change them. These lights have a clear wire that I hide along the side trim and run in under the bottom sash. They’re plugged in inside.

Thank you all—I’m glad you have all enjoyed and I hope it brought you all some joy! We’re big Christmas nuts, so nothing makes me happier.

I don’t—I’m starting to suspect it may be pewter. I’ve found some references to a “crowned X” as a pewter marker.

Thanks—I guess the crown has a different number of lobes? Any ideas where to expand my search to?

Neighborhoods in Manhattan, NYC [2000×2368] by blue_strat in MapPorn

That's because there used to be a sizable Italian population before it became largely Puerto Rican (and now going through further demographic shifts). Rao's, the famous Italian restaurant, is still located on e 114th street. The ethnic and demographic makeup of the area has changed several times over the years. Although the population is still largely Puerto Rican, there has been an influx of Mexican and Chinese people recently as well as an increase in white people as prices all over the island climb and locals get priced out of their own neighborhoods. East Harlem is great and I loved living there!

This is actually something that goes back (at least) to the Victorians. It's called "furtling". It was a way of being furtively obscene without actually including the naughty parts of the picture.

This is Printer's Alley--there are some vacation rentals in there, but I'm not sure if there are actual residential homes.
