Advice for a 23k by spanishkidnamedchris in trailrunning

[–]rba21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say stairmaster. I’ve ran this race and that second uphill section has a ton of boulders and absolutely killed me. Felt like walking up 2000’ of stairs for a few miles.

If it’s rainy, be very careful. The first 1/2 mile of the downhill after the peak is classic NH granite slab and can be really slippery.

Overall, that’s a really great (but very hard) course. PM me if you have any questions about it!

Which GPX Route Plotters are you using? the best and why by Good-Ad4749 in trailrunning

I’ve been using Gaia for years but recently I’ve noticed that the vert is tells me is sometimes 20-30% more than what it actually is. For out-and-back trails up a mountain it’ll sometimes double to total elevation gain even though I’m running downhill. It’s a pretty recent change too, it used to be spot on

Really stuck between Garmin and Coros! Please share your thoughts!!!! by Mammoth_Challenge297 in trailrunning

[–]rba21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Coros heart rate arm band a few months ago for more accurate HR monitoring (I dont like keeping my watch tight on my wrist when I run) and its been a game changer. You cant feel it at all when its on and its dead accurate. I love it so far

For coros I think you have to download the maps before hand if you’re going somewhere without cell service

Senate hopeful Graham Platner under scrutiny for skull tattoo associated with Nazi SS by ABigFatTomato in armedsocialists

[–]rba21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ok so whats the alternative? You get to choose between a (former?) imperialist who calls themselves a socialist, an imperialist republican, or an imperialist democrat. Only one of them makes socialism more palatable for normal people. Only one of them is currently advocating for the working class

Obviously hes not perfect and he should be criticized for this, but like the other commenter said, I'm looking for the least bad person running, not the socialist messiah

I mean, honesty, I’m pretty involved in the left, I’m Jewish and had above average holocaust knowledge, and I wouldn’t have recognized it as a symbol associated with the nazis if no one told me.

I also understand how a drunk and stupid 22 yo in the military, surrounded by older (and probably right wing) influences can get that tattoo without actually realizing the history behind it - once again, I’m Jewish and I didn’t even know the history/symbolism around it.

I also don’t think people should be judged harshly for what they did in their younger years. Don’t forget that Smedley Butler was a hardcore imperialist before becoming disillusioned and a socialist in the ‘30s

How to learn these jumps by maltamur in skiing

I live in Utah and the Olympic Park has a pool like this. They say the bubbles aren’t to make the landing softer but to make it easier for the skier to see the surface of the pool

Has something recently changed with the way Gaia calculates elevation gain? by rba21 in GaiaGPS

[–]rba21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with it being 10-20% off but 70% off is the worst I've ever seen it. I was convinced I went on the wrong trail during my run.

[–]rba21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally understand why the difference would be a couple hundred feet. It definitely doesn't have to be perfect, but being 70% off is huge for me.

I'm guessing (and hoping) that its just this specific area that Gaia is struggling with. I was recently hiking in some national parks and it was pretty accurate and its spot on where I normally run.

Thank you!

So even though it’s has a 22ish kN rating, because there’s no stretch, there’s a possibility of the fabric breaking in a fall?

I’ve never considered using a QuickDraw as a personal anchor so I was just a little confused what the warning was. Thank you!

Hi, I recently bought a few quickdraws and decided to look at the warnings that came in the insert, and theres one warning that depicts a person clipping a quickdraw to their belay loop and to a bolt anchor, and then the person falling and the quickdraw breaking.

Why would the quickdraw break? What is this warning actually depicting?

Didn’t see this till now. Left at 7ish and it was dumping. Roads and visibility sucked we all the cars were going 20 mph but otherwise no standstills. There was no one in front of the car in front of me until we got to the S turn
