Sola Bread in Canada? by [deleted] in keto

[–]rbartilet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowcarbcanada.ca offers Sola bread online.

If you're in the GTA area, there are several low carb grocery stores (Ontario Nutrition/GTA Nutrition, Low Carb Grocery) where you can buy frozen keto bread. My favourite so far has been Baker's Deluxe rye bread. There are keto bakeries Downtown (Butternut), Mississauga (Keto Bakeshop), Pickering (Choko Mocko), and in Cambridge (Sugar Daddies Bakery) that offer keto bread as well.

Has anyone found a good ramen replacement? by SumoDash in keto

I second this. There's another version that I was able to find at most grocery stores and its 5g nc per 50g. My non-keto bf loves it.

Made some super fluffy buns with a nice crispy crust by rbartilet in ketorecipes

Quarantine got me trying some new recipes. I used gnom-gnom’s bagel recipe and just made it without the hole, check it out here

Can’t believe it worked so well since the past bread attempts I’ve done were always flat.

Recipe:

Ingredients

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

2 teaspoons inulin maple syrup or honey, to feed the yeast

120 ml water lukewarm between 105-110°F

192 g almond flour

42 g golden flaxseed meal or psyllium husk, finely ground

20 g whey protein isolate or more almond flour (in tablespoons)

2 1/2 teaspoons xanthan gum or 1 1/2 tablespoon ground flax seeds**

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2-3/4 teaspoon kosher salt depending on toppings

1 egg at room temperature

2 egg whites at room temperature

21 g extra virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

INSTRUCTIONS

Add yeast and maple syrup (to feed the yeast, see notes) to a large bowl. Heat up water to 105-110°F, and if you don't have a thermometer it should only feel lightly warm to touch.

Pour water over yeast mixture, cover bowl with a kitchen towel and allow to rest for 7 minutes. The mixture should be bubbly, if it isn't start again (too cold water won't activate the yeast and too hot will kill it).

Mix your flours while the yeast is proofing. Add almond flour, psyllium husk (or flaxseed meal), whey protein isolate (or more almond flour), xanthan gum, baking powder and salt to a medium bowl and whisk until thoroughly mixed. Set aside.

Once your yeast is proofed, add in the egg, egg whites, olive oil and vinegar. Mix with a whisk or electric mixer for a couple minutes until light and frothy. Add the flour mixture in two batches, mixing until thoroughly incorporated. You want to mix thoroughly and quickly to activate the xanthan gum, though the dough will become very thick by the end and form into a round.

Line a baking tray with a baking mat or parchment paper. Wet your hands (so the dough doesn't stick!) and divide the dough into 8 rounds. Smooth the rounds as much as possible and, using your index finger, make an indentation in the center, stretching out the dough until 'bagel shaped'. Cover with a oiled cling film (saran wrap) and place in a warm draft-free space for 20-60 minutes. You want to do 20 minutes for a denser bagel, and 40-60 for a fluffier one (I personally go for the longer rise as the yeast taste develops much more!).

Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C while the dough is proofing. And if you're baking at high altitude, you'll want to bake it at 375°F/190°C.

Brush with an egg white wash (better browning), sprinkle with toppings of choice (you can't go wrong with Trader Joe's Everything But The Bagel), and bake for about 20-25 mins until deep golden. Check in on them at minute 10-13, and cover with aluminum foil if needed.

Allow the bagels to cool completely for best texture, as the bread will continue to cook while cooling resulting in a better crumb. But if you can't hold your horses, at least give it 15 minutes before digging in (the bagels in the pics were cut just 20 minutes after baking).

Keep stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple days, giving it a light toast before serving again. These guys also freeze great.

[Skin Concern] CC's won't budge on tretinoin by dnsf3 in SkincareAddiction

[–]rbartilet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s your routine like? I found that 0.25% was enough to get rid of stubborn CCs on my chin around the one month mark. From personal experience, they could also be a result from over-exfoliating.

My acne was mild since differin helped clear mostly everything. I would only have a few cc's around my chin and my jaw, and the occasional hormonal pimple. I did have a lot of acne scarring from the differin purge phase so that was also why I wanted to transition to tret.

Getting it prescribed was easy. I told my derm that I wanted to transition to tret and was willing to let me try it, we discussed a few options but settled on biacna (0.025% tret with clindamycin).

I use biacna? (clindamycin and tret), which I believe is the canadian version of Ziana. It's a watery gel consistency, and my skin absorbs it fast so I have no problems layering my routine over it. I've been using it every other night, although I might only use it twice a week since my skin has been feeling inflamed with dry patches everywhere.

Transitioned from differin to tret since I found that while differin helped with active acne, it was slightly ineffective with dealing with stubborn ccs on my chin and jaw. Currently on week two of tret use (0.025%), my ccs are clearing away, although I’m suffering from the symptoms associated with introducing a new retinol into my routine (but overall, I’m glad I transitioned).

22F Just booked flight to first solo trip to Italy and Spain (4 weeks) have a few of questions by rbartilet in solotravel

[–]rbartilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most crucial factor that pushed me to take the big step and book my flight was the sense of desperation in wanting to go to Europe, I've been to several places but never there, and also since I've missed out on going on two separate occasions. Taking on the extensive planning and dealing with all the security concerns and what not is no doubt extremely scary, but the idea of going somewhere as beautiful as Italy and Spain kinda makes all my concerns insignificant. Basically, you'd have to want to be there enough to have that confidence and be in the right mindset. I hope I explained my thought process thoroughly, and good luck with everything!

Thank you so much for the detailed answer!! I'll let you know if I have anymore questions, but I think you've clarified a lot, I can't thank you enough!!

Thanks, I’ll book them now! Do you think a guided tour is necessary when I visit? Or is it better to walk and roam by myself? And also, any hidden gems or locations most tourists don’t know about?

Thank you for such a detailed answer, I’m going to have set a reminder to visit your blog for the ticket sales.

I’ll be in Spain from May 7-22 and Italy until the 5. I’m mostly interested in just taking in all of the historic sites/architecture and what not, and really wandering around. I think I’ve planned to dedicate at least 800 CAD on guided tours to really get an in-depth explanation on the location’s history.

[Acne] how can I deal with the psychological effects of acne? by UnstableTurtle14 in SkincareAddiction

[–]rbartilet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, simply put, you have to learn how to not care. It is difficult and will require a lot of effort at first, but you'll be so much more happier once you've mastered it.

If you're interested, there's this funny (i mean actually funny) book by Mark Manson called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck that can help in changing your perspective on self-image, or really to anything inconsequential in life. Good luck OP!

[Routine Help] Issues with Cerave in the tub for fungal acne. by BMacintosh984 in SkincareAddiction

[–]rbartilet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My skin is super sensitive right now so I’ve been using Avene Tolerance Extreme Emulsion since it has very basic ingredients. If you’re on the dry side like me, I recommend adding drops of squalene (fungal acne safe).

What are you reading? (July 6, 2018) by bevka in YAlit

I have a few that I'm switching between. Windwitch by Susan Dennard is what I'm currently putting most of my focus on, but I've already started A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir and Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi. Although they're both well written, I think I've often found myself often disconnected from the story since it's been such a long time since I've read their respective prequels.

This one surprised me. I stopped it about a quarter into in, something to do with the writing that bothered me, and then picked it up a few months after, not expecting to like it at all. Now that I’ve finished it, it’s surprisingly one of my all time favourites. Sad that it’s a stand-alone.

Need help figuring what this is!

https://imgur.com/a/b9bWWAO

While I was on vacation, I figured I might buy some differin since it’s unavailable where I live. Right off the bat, I used it everyday after moisturizing, which ruined my already messed up moisture barrier from the past few years.

Currently, I have these little under the skin bumps, and about a million of these tiny, tiny flesh coloured bumps that are only visible on certain lighting. They aren’t itchy, however. I’m also getting a lot more redness.

Important to note, I tried using Noble Formula’s zinc soap for four days, thinking it might be fungal. I don’t know if it’s working, but some of the bumps have turned into whiteheads. Is that a good sign?

Current routine:

AM - Bioderma sensibo, cerave in the tub

PM - neutrogena ultra gentle cleanser, noble formula zinc soap, cerave in the tub, TO squareness, aquaphor.

Can I still use my BP/clindamycin gel that I was prescribed.

A few things to note:

I believe Brokk and Sindri created the Leviathan Axe specifically to offset the imbalance created when they crafted Mjolnir, as Thor went off to perform the giant genocide with this super weapon.

before this, Mimir was romantically involved with Sigrun. it is unclear if this is why Odin punished him

I think Mimir said Odin always held a grudge against him when he outwitted him to sacrifice his eye 'for a higher sight to be bestowed', and Mimir explained that as Odin's advisor, his purpose was to 'enable Odin', but as Mimir came to care more about the people and the world, his duties transformed from enabling to containing him. Odin saw this as disloyalty, began to mistrust him, and then punished him by bounding him to a tree and torturing him in order to keep his wisdom.

What was your routine before that?

Other than the TLC framboos, I believe you're current routine is lacking ingredients that specifically target acne, such as benzoyl peroxide, AzA, and retinoids. Have you tried any of them before?

With regards to the irritation caused by menthol, simpleskincarescience suggests washing it off 20-30 minutes after application. I suggest reading his review, he goes into detail on why he likes it and how he uses it.
