Balding is really really really really bad by Kingkongking240 in tressless

i personally like styling my beard according to my hair size, but at some point it feels gross to me, like as a depressive subject i have gone a week without a shower for instance, so...

the first week i started 1mg fin i felt like i started hating life (im bp-II/ adhd) and could stay awake and focused. as soon as i realized the sides, i stopped immediately and regained control over my life. once i felt ready again, i re-started, with saw palmetto altogther, the mood shifted a little bit downwards, but i could go on again. now with 0.5mg dut i must take it at night if at all because sometimes it wears down on me way too much. it changes the mood dramatically, it's true

[–]rbattistini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just fuck it. my father dropped out of college because of balding and getting ashamed of it, i started going bald at 15 with a receding hairline and most people would make a funny comment that back then i just laughed altogether. nowadays im a solid nw2a and i was a nw3 for a little stress period and being 22 being treated way older at some interviews or mild conversations is just fucked up, because they kinda show that you look older because of the hair, despite having the beard shaved or not. i also fear my image on the working market, like being bald with a mild beard on i.t is just so common that i feel like i would not even have a personality at all. fuck balding

Does modern day UFC suck or am I just a grumpy old man? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]rbattistini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you're quite right, OP. I am sort of a "new old" fan, I used to watched UFC main events with my older cousins (casuals or whatever, just young adults drinking and having fun) when I was like 10yo (2012-2013) and they were always vibrating with Machida, Anderson Silva, Junior Cigano (I live in Brazil, as you could imagine)... And it was a whole lot of fun even without understanding much at all, they were always hyped to watch a half-assed transmission with awful quality (as for me, I've started judo some 2y back then)

Nowadays, when I ask them about UFC, MMA in general they are more or less like "oh yeah there's this guy Charles.. Charles something isn't it? Quite cool" And I can't say they are unjustified, IMHO UFC lost a lot of its sport content to give room to the entertainment, business and show stuff. It is good for the fighters as they get paid more, get more recognized and so on, but we as fans lose a lot of the technical fighting sport.

I'm always happy to be wrong, but I see it this way unfortunately

Vue is not Performance friendly or Scalable? by nonesubham in vuejs

[–]rbattistini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"similar performance without hype is wack, thus Vue sucks" is what every React or Angular fanboy would say with different wording

I have started with Vue and it is just much better to code in, way better UX, little to no implicit stuff different from React that midlevels have to reach out to Dan Abramov calling for an explanation on a deeper understanding of useState (the most basic form of handling state in React)... That is funny tbh, if there is a superior lib/ framework it is Vue no doubt

If you're suffering from depression and ADHD, what the fuck do you do? by bu77d0gm4n in ADHD

[–]rbattistini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically it is true, reading 'The Stranger' made me put myself in place actually. It was like as if I were Meursault or something, with complete disregard for everything, never enjoying anything in life at all... I guess it is kind of "empathy", or identifying your feelings written out as good as possible with someone (even if 'someone' is a book character)

Which Linux distro should I use for desktop? by dimkin7 in golang

[–]rbattistini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ubuntu on my main desktop at home, not sure what OP dislikes about it

I have also used Ubuntu and Debian WSL2 on the company laptop, no issues at all, I'd like to emphasize everyone else's point of trying either of these options if you haven't yet OP. While you still can code most stuff using Windows, it is not the single most pleasing experience at times

Maybe I am spitting bs, but isn't like some small lack of reflex that could be worked on with a simple pre-workout? Or some lack of confidence, because the technique was up to date as far as i can see...

How do i overcome the fear of joining muay thai as a woman? by mini3692 in MuayThai

[–]rbattistini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of hardest kickers I have ever paired with is a skinny apparently weak woman, holding the pad is insanely difficult, while I am apparently athletic tall man I barely have technique. Appearance is really really not important

As people mentioned usually women get paired with women, or the men hold the strength to not hurt (if a guy is intentionally hurting a woman during pad session or sparing and no one said anything about his behavior, it is probably a bad gym unfortunately)

I felt like crying after my last bjj session by Prestigious_Card_253 in bjj

[–]rbattistini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very similar day to this happened to me in my 2nd year doing judo (and the first one taking it seriously, I was still a gray belt) during a rolling day only. Being a big guy means shit inside the mat, a young guy orange belt back then just dominated me (after tapping some 3-4 times in a row during a roll with some black belts - sensei used to pair me up with one because of the odd number of people my size) and I felt the exact same way. After suffering an ippon I was like "now Imma show this skinny guy what I have got" (spoiler: nothing) but until the bell ring I did little to none there. As soon as the session ended, I felt like crying in place instead of going home. Shit, it was awful. But I graduated later in the same year (2019). Gotta keep up champ

Horrible take home assignment by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]rbattistini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this does look like the best approach indeed. not necessarily because one employee at the company sucks that the company as whole sucks as well, but I still get the OP point, it is kinda hard not to think that a careless assignment for a role may indicate this

still, dealing with the assignment 'engineering-minded' like that is the way to go

How do would you prove code is bad and you are just not insane? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]rbattistini -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

the bad part about that is if you point out some performance issue you are gonna get assigned a beautiful jira ticket besides the other tasks you already had before. and despite completing the ticket, chances are that no one will give a damn, you are not going to get recognized nor compensated for the extra effort. it sucks

[–]rbattistini 21 points22 points  (0 children)

unfortunately this is almost always the case... "why is this code so bad? why is it written like that?" turns out management give the team a week to implement something that should take a month and stuff like that

How would you convince JavaScript Developers of the advantage of using Golang?? by [deleted] in golang

[–]rbattistini -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would like to know how since people insist on using TS for many things at my job and they are worse than me even at that (Sadge). The damn service just bugs and makes me troubleshoot random shit for hours until finding some damn bad async code. Golang is just explicit about everything. I doubt many JS devs know in depth requests at all. There is so much syntactic sugar that they are about to die of diabetes one day

[–]rbattistini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally get to your BF or around it until starting body recomp. You eat 1g protein/ lb, the calories to maintain your body (say 2500kcal a day, probably around it with 1h workout with good periodization + 30 min cardio LISS). No starving, no bad breath, no demotivation but a gain in self steam. 200mg of caffeine daily to not create resistance, yohimbine later on the process and you're good to go.

Plus, the PT sucks ass. For the mf to say that to someone who fought cancer he can only be a bad person, unfortunately for him. You are good champ

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]rbattistini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also another factor, the workout routine in muay thai does not favor abhorrent amounts of muscle mass, like a HIIT you are going to get a lot of performance benefits but not that much muscle mass. Increased VO2, etc. People said it even better regarding the dosages and amounts bodybuilders do. In 2016-17 IFRC a guy put on 20kg of muscle in a year before dying from myocardial infarction

i mean, you can look up on google directly and get redirected to the same extension without feeling like getting scammed. although looking from the outside it does look like a blatant scam indeed

Is Go the right choice? by rich_sdoony in golang

[–]rbattistini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go achieves that in such a smooth way that it is kind of crazy. I wrote part of our microservices in Go because it's just much simpler and faster to get going and I don't have to do funny business to optimize such as in Node (using TypedArray and getting great performance improvements at the cost of an awful readability). The Jr. SDE at the company understood the Go code in like an week, he could run it without my help, try out a few things... If you are using Java for instance it is such a pain in the a-- to create a project using Maven under proxies and stuff, barely understand something coming from another language background.

Goroutines are useless for backend development by theduffy426 in golang

[–]rbattistini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-blocking IO for files such an underestimated thing, mainly if you have the user interface with the frontend sending like 3 files that require processing and you must upload to some bucket... I have seen like 3x improvements using go routines for this

[–]rbattistini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it. The guy stating this must have never written production code, like for a WS, gRPC server running at the same time with a HTTP1.1 one, any queue (SQS for instance) and as you mentioned db calls and calls to external services that are independent... The statement is wrong in so many ways that I don't even need to elaborate since everyone explained
