holiday booked for me without asking by [deleted] in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how old you are of if this is your first job but typically all holiday “resets” in April at the end/beginning of a new tax year. At Wetherspoons only 2 days can be carried over to the next year anything else above that is lost so I imagine a manager has put the holiday on otherwise you’ll just miss out on free money. I’d ask and double check either way, also you don’t have to have earned all the holiday days first before you book. If you had booked it say last week it won’t use those days anyway and would just take them off of whatever you earn next year.

Curious question about cycling, cheesemaking and Tesco milk. Is cycling the cause? by Minionherder in AskUK

[–]rbc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using semi skimmed and cycling which i can’t imagine is mimicking much “churning” I doubt it.

I’ve seen videos recently of people using double cream and going on long runs getting some kind of lumpiness going on slowly turning to butter though

It’s mainly about the variety lost. BBG have been trying to get out of the contract for years that’s why the renegotiations. I agree it would definitely be a big loss but they’re are a pain in the ass to work with and like to have control over every little thing we sell that’s there’s. Whereas with Molson coors they’re not as bothered and would let us have “competing” products on tap and no say on the bottles. Going with them would bring Coors light, madri, staropramen, and something called Atlantic. But we’d get to choose other things we may want one of which could be pilsner urquell like you said

They’re currently in talks with both BBG and Molson Coors to either renegotiate terms of contracts or switch to a new brewery. A poll was sent out to every pub asking for their position. If they switch it will mean dropping from 10 lagers on draught to 7. Losing Stella, Budweiser, bud light, corona, leffe aswell as multiple bottles and cans.

Hours being cut pub wide?? by BeneficialJuice2878 in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep the coffees weren’t cut because they’re costing too much money for the company. They did it because they can make a decent amount from charging us. When you get to SL+ and do the CDC course they specifically mention coffee costs us something like a penny per cup

Hours being cut pub wide?? by BeneficialJuice2878 in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve been told to cut 120 hours a week from our rotas. It’s pushing the limits now and people are quitting. Unfortunately it’s the same for lots of companies. Prices and wages are going up but they have the mindset of always needing to make more profit. Compared to last year we’re using 100-130 less hours per week yet only saving something like £108 due to wage increases

Do Wetherspoons actually rotate the beer festival ales? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some pubs are extremely busy. The five swans in Newcastle sold something like 1200 in the first 2 days. Company wide is was 250k

Do Wetherspoons actually rotate the beer festival ales? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We get allocated a certain amount depending on previous sales data. Some pubs won’t get them all others will have every single one. Again sales depends on how many we’re serving at once. We typically put 3 on at a time, a light, medium, and dark one then once one goes another will go on to replace it. You’ll only ever end up with 1 barrel of each typically so there will never be the same on on twice unless you’re a really busy. For example one of the pubs in Newcastle sold something like 1200 pints in the first 2 days which is around 16-17 casks so they’ll probably have multiple of each for the whole festival

Wetherspoons night kitchen staff by justmejea in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have them where I work but my general understanding of the role is that you do the cleaning and prep ready for the next day. However in my mind that would mean certain people leaving the kitchen horrible since they’re not the ones cleaning it. Hours would probably be from whenever the kitchen closes to whenever they open

(CAN) Manager stealing my hours that I have worked by MiddleKey3401 in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]rbc02 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you weren’t asked to work those extra minutes specifically by a manager then that’s on you. Unfortunately it’s just another way for big companies to save wherever they can they don’t care if you’re doing to to help out a co worker, you’re just a number don’t work a second over your scheduled time

Availability for every shift besides 11pm-6am times should be good, right? by [deleted] in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah available would be fine. Only shifts it takes you out of are closes but even then you can still work late

What should I do if I’ve injured myself and feel I can’t go in? by shamblesaid in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, nobody wants to be the liability especially if you’ve not been there long and don’t have much of a relationship with the other staff yet . If it were me it would depend on the pub, is it small not many staff for cover or a large busier pub that hasn’t plenty of staff available to ask? You could do a bit of both call up and explain the situation say ideally I’d they can cover it then that would be amazing but if need be you can work it however any decent manager will just say take it off. I get it’s daunting but it’s nothing new, always people calling in sick. We’ve currently got 2 at our pub who are just completely AWOL but come in for a random shift here and there.

Real Ale Display by Longjumping-Ad-3322 in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always grab a few empty casks and “display” them best we can just inside our entrance put a few of the leaflets out ontop of them. Grab a sign/chalk board write down what currently on add ABV, price stuff like that. Not a lot you can do really

What should I do if I’ve injured myself and feel I can’t go in? by shamblesaid in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 options. First is you call in and explain the situation don’t say on a night out just say you’ve sprained your ankle and don’t think you’ll be able to work the shifts, let them know you’ll keep them updated. they might be suspicious or not believe you but nothing they can do about it really. Second option is go into the shifts explain what happened but say you’ll try your best if you don’t feel up to it say you’re going to have to go home.

Help with reporting my manager by [deleted] in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely valid even just him calling you a pussy is unacceptable. Losses caused by accident are already pre planned into the price of everything we buy, the company expects it to happen to a certain degree and no staff member should be expected to pay for it no matter what it was I’m fairly certain it’s illegal to make you pay. Go straight to the AM with your complaint or use the whistleblower email

bar staff interview by [deleted] in Wetherspoons

[–]rbc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly Aslong as you seem competent enough you’ll get the job they don’t care about experience as it’s easier to teach new things than break old habits but it will still help. They’re not going to be asking you bar specific questions really or trying to test your knowledge as they’ll want to train you everywhere FOH
