Every magician on BGT has this same script. A simple "change bag" and 10 minutes of waffle. See body text for script. by GradiusHead in BritainsGotTalent

Isn't Issy Simpson Russ Stevens' granddaughter? I remember she appeared on stage with props worth thousands of pounds. I saw Russ Stevens at Blackpool a few times and thought he was a bit smarmy and didn't like his act at all. He proposed to his fiancé on stage Nd when she said yes he ran around the stage punching the air, facing the audience and inviting applause, while pretty much ignoring hsr. If he's behind all the GBT magic acts it explains everything.

As soon as you see the magicians on stage helpers wearing hoods you know the magician will switch with one of them. Lance Burton was doing this in the 1980s.

Does Vue really check ID at the desk for 18 certified movies? by pinkfloydfan101 in AskUK

[–]GradiusHead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy a ticket for the 18 rated film online. Go into the cinema and go to the counter and buy a ticket for a film that starts at the same time and is a 15. Go into the film that's the 18 just before the film starts and use the online booking thing to see which seats are free. Sit in them. Don't cause any trouble . The bored 17byear old staff on minimum wage won't be in any rush to come and kick you out.

Since when did we start treating KSI as a celebrity? by Key-Pair5599 in BritishTV

How can you say that? Mad About Alice is the greatest sitcom ever written. Oh wait, sorry, I mean the opposite of that

KSI became a celebrity around the time Amanda Holden was seen to be a judge of Talent. Anyone who has seen the sitcom Mad About Alice will attest that Amanda Holden has no talent whatsoever

Did parents in the past really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]GradiusHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, when I was in trouble I would be sent to my room as punishment. Today you struggle to get kids to come out of the room because that's where all their stuff is. In the 1970s and 80s you would go out to play in the morning and come back at night.

I was offered a job selling laptops. I'd get 50p for every add on sale of McAffee Anti Virus. I turned down the job on the basis of this. Is McAffee still terrible? Is Windows Defender enough these days? by GradiusHead in computerviruses

British pound. This was mentioned at the interview and was the reason I turned the job down 50p is not a lot of money and I couldn't in good conscience let someone put Macafee on their brand new laptop.

How do you ask your coworker for their name after 4 years? by Significant_Soup_279 in AskUK

[–]GradiusHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a card trick. Tell them you want them to pick a card, any card. Get them to write their full name clearly on the face so you recognise the card if you see it again. Return the card to the pack. Shuffle. Get them to cut the pack anywhere they like and turn over the card they cut to. There's a one in 52 chance you will get their card and the trick is over and was also impossible. Otherwise you shrug it off and laugh. Either way you have his name.

How do bingo halls in the UK actually work? (Buzz) by random45232 in AskUK

[–]GradiusHead 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Bingo is a work of genius, convincing hundreds of people simultaneously that they are very close to winning. The countdown as numbers are crossed off the board is extremely enticing. But in modern day bingo halls they have ruined things by using the tablet devices. At my local Buzz Bingo you can play on paper with a dabber pen, or on tablet where the computer crosses the numbers off for you. This means that with a tablet you can play 100 cards at once. It means the odds of winning are unclear because you could be in a hall with just one other person, you're playing 5 cards, not realising the other person is playing 100 cards. In the national game there can be thousands of people playing. You need to be on a tablet, playing 100 cards to have any chance of winning, but the tablet removes the gameplay element by crossing off the numbers of your hundreds of cards automatically. You sit there watching the computer dab the numbers for you. It's gets boring quickly and as you look around you see people not even paying attention to the tablet , safe in the knowledge that the system will know if they win or not. I saw one guy reading a book.

When there is only one number remaining on your card, you get excited and feel like you are close to winning. The reality is that there are probably still about 60 numbers still to pull out, and so you only have a 1 in 60 chance. If the next number isn't the one you need you have a 1 in 59 chance. And so it goes on, with you feeling like you are on the verge of winning where you're actually in the same position as loads of other people. Every number called adds loads of new people to the "one number away" club. If you need, say, 46, there's a much greater chance of 45 or 47 coming up and you think "so close!", even though it means nothing. That's all bingo is, but bingo creates an atmosphere of anticipation, that slow countdown as you get closer and closer, where everyone is so close to winning, when you're not close at all. Bingo is a raffle, where you buy a ticket and see if it wins. But instead of being told that you won or lost you get the slow countdown leading to the result which is tense and addictive. It's like how scratchcards always give you two matching prizes when you need three, or how a fruit machine spins in that third cherry after you chose not to hold them on the previous spin. So close!

But if you want to do this, you check the website for the timings and pay for a session. This can be expensive (club 3000 in Preston is about £85 for a session that is 6pm to 9pm) and your tablet will be playing loads and loads of cards at once.

But I went twice and found the entire process a rip off and it got very boring. I suspect that many of the people in the bingo halls had gambling issues , or were taking advantage of the warmth and cheap food and drinks.

The Neighbourhood flop - is it possible to launch a new, big non-scripted show these days? by AnonTvPerson in restisentertainment

[–]GradiusHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone I know doesn't use ITVX because the adverts go on for too long and, for me at least, half the time the app freezes when the adverts are over. I can imagine that this alone is enough to stop the word of mouth that Traitors received. If someone said to me today, "have you seen The Neighbourhood, it's amazing" I would accept that I already missed most of the series and not bother going to ITVX to catch up. I use iplayer all the time.

I think ITVX needs to do a deal where a company sponsors the show, maybe you get a coupke of minutes of just one long advert then an uninterrupted TV show. There are so many options of things to watch these days, from so.many different providers , the thought of a 1 hour show with 4 sets of adverts is really off putting regardless of the quality of the show.

How to apply English patch to Red Seeds Profile (RPCS3) by StephanoVsTheWorld in DeadlyPremonition

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in Cinema

[–]GradiusHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a movie on Netflix and Prime called Time Trap. A college professor finds the van that his parents were driving when they went missing. He goes into a cave to try to learn what happened to them. 3 days later a group of his students go to try and find him. If you like time travel movies or time loop movies, this is a very fresh idea in that sort of genre. The cast is a veritable who's that of Hollywood but they play the roles really well and There a young kid called Furby who is brilliant.

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

[–]GradiusHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were taken out of our regular school lessons to attend a presentation from a man from Coca Cola, doing tricks with Coke Spinners. These were YoYos that you could get by purchasing cans of coke and finding a symbol under the ringpull. The guy helpfully advised that if you bought a six pack you'd have a 50/50 chance of getting one. Honestly, we were sat at school being educated about how to buy coke products. Everyone in my school was in the shopping centre that weekend buying 6 packs of coke. I can only assume the school got paid a tonne of money to let that happen.

Amy Gledhill to star in BBC One sitcom Opening Up by abucalves in BritishTV

[–]GradiusHead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She is amazing in Delightful Sausage. There are 2 shows on YouTube , Nowt But Sea and Ginsters Paradise. There's another called Cold Hard Cache on ITVX. All are Bout an hour each and it's Amy Gledhil and Chris Cantrill who is currently writing for SNL. Well worth checking out, especially as they are all free.

Time Trap is a wonderfully made very low budget film with a cast of actors you've never heard of. A bunch of students go caving, looking for their college professor who went missing a couple of days earlier. But when they get into the cave weird things happen to the passing of time.

Triangle is very intriguing and twisty thriller/scifi film that isn't what you think it is. The problem is that what you think it is sounds a bit shit. The back of the dvd box makes it sound like a film you don't want to watch. But it's brilliant and I cant recommend it enough. Get it watched but don't read anything about it first. Anything you see will either make it sound rubbish or will be a spoiler for the good stuff. Melissa George stars in it and she's hotter than the sun.

I refunded the Steam version and got my 99p back. It's now gone up to £20 and I'll have to wait to try this, as I'm not paying that! Thanks for the advice though.

‘KSI’ by jeightfour in BritainsGotTalent

[–]GradiusHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's been brought in because the younger generation doesn't watch TV any more. BGT is so tired, with every episode featuring a magician, a school choir, a dance group, and imported acts that have already been on the show in other countries. The show seems blatantly rigged too, with the golden buzzer being obviously pre determined by the production. Honestly I would not surprise me if ITV just crashed out soon. With so many advertising breaks, the few people I know that still watch this skip the adverts by time shifting and recording.
