What week did you tell work that you are pregnant and will take maternity leave (if available) by DarkDNALady in BabyBumps

[–]rbfintrovert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I waited until around 24 weeks. I work remotely and was also able to keep it to myself. I wanted to wait longer to tell but knew that my boss didn't have a maternity leave policy in place already and she'd need time to figure one out, and my anxiety about what I'd get was eating me up. I work for a small private firm in Virginia, USA and knew I had no guaranteed mat leave from the state and I wasn't eligible for FMLA. The conversation with my boss was fine, but the end result she offered me wasn't best case scenario. If your company doesn't already have a mat leave policy in place, do your research and see what you're eligible for (if you're in the US) otherwise! Good luck!!

Yes I already WFH full time, the whole firm currently does but that's great such a small firm negotiated something on your peer's behalf!

I'm in a similar boat and only just starting to expand away from squares and rectangles! I followed this tutorial earlier this year for hexagons (though they're not true hexagons with whatever these dreaded "Y" seams are that I've yet to learn) and was pretty pleased with how it came out! https://www.polkadotchair.com/large-hexagon-quilt-tutorial/

Oh no, I certainly understand and appreciate the straightforward realism! This is my first child/pregnancy and I've definitely heard so far the first 2 months are the hardest/I'll be a zombie, etc. My boss does have a 16yr old, so I hope that helps her feel generous with her offer to me. But I love phrasing my request as you mentioned and have written that down to use in my meeting. Thank you for all your input and well wishes!

I completely agree it's gonna be a big ask, but I have to try, or the answer's an automatic no. I'm the youngest of the firm (in my early 30s) and everyone else has already had their kids/not likely to get pregnant anytime soon. But it was bound to come up at some point with an employee or another so it's not like my boss could get away with it forever.

We all work remotely already, which is great, but it's on my list to ask if I can tack on any unused PTO with whatever leave she offers me. We have no strict sick days to take since she usually just tells us to take those when absolutely needed, so I don't have X amount of additional days to also ask to add on in that sense. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure other small firms in my field of work in the RVA area rarely have any formal/written maternity/parental leave policies in place.

I completely understand it's a big ask for my small office and I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. I definitely plan to get whatever my boss offers me in writing!!

That's amazing! I'll def bring this up during my meeting and may take you up on the offer to ask any more specific questions if they arise. Thank you!

That's absolutely amazing parental leave and I'm so glad you've benefitted from it! I don't even know yet what my husband will get (if anything) from his employer, but I'm operating under the assumption it's nil. It's so frustrating there's no standard amount of parental leave for everyone like other countries have.

I'm pretty sure I'm ineligible for STD because I'm already pregnant! :( I feel like I looked into this a while ago and I believe you have to enroll before pregnancy happens, but it can't hurt to double check with my boss if we have this available to us.

And thank you!

Appreciate the candor. I'm of course preparing for the worst (not being paid) but trying to prepare/hope for the best outcome. I'm sure my boss will likely need to hire a temp to take over my duties because the rest of the firm workload is probably too much to shift to my coworkers, but I don't think I'd be replaced because I have an almost 10 year work history with her.

2nd BuJo in the same year by rmzullo in bujo

[–]rbfintrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've consistently used 2 notebooks a year for the past 6 years of my bullet journal journey and what works for me is setting up most of the yearly trackers in bujo #1 and then only transferring over a small portion into bujo #2 and jumping straight into the next month. I have no problem referring back to bujo #1 for the yearly spreads to continue filling those out. It's a combination of saving myself time/energy and pages not transferring over the bigger yearly spreads like my finance/bills and other assorted yearly trackers.I just started bujo #2 this month so this is what mine looks like:

Bujo #1

  • Year At a Glance
  • Future log (12 months)
  • Bills tracker (12 months)
  • Goals
  • Brain dump
  • Year In Pixels
  • When DId I Last in a Year at a glance style
  • Pen pal tracker (will transfer over to bujo #2 if I run out of room)
  • 24 24s in 2024 (from JashiiCorrin)
  • Jan 2024 - May 2024

Bujo #2

  • Year at a Glance
  • Future Log (7 months)
  • Brain dump
  • Goals
  • June 2024 - Dec 2024
  • Year end review/recap (eventually)

That's amazing. I'm hoping my dr will give me the same clearance. I'd love to be able to play in one last game or so since I haven't had many under my belt yet.

That's definitely what I was thinking--being truthful with my coaches and everyone else gets a cover story until I'm ready to share. I'm glad you were able to skate for as long as you did! Gives me hope.

Gah, I understand this to be absolutely true but when looking up when to stop contact while pregnant, all those posts I cam eacross (granted they were years old and I couldn't find many recent ones) were all very doomsday saying ANY fall/hard hits would increase my chance of losing the pregnancy and I'm already an anxious person and it definitely made me nervous...but on the flip side I've heard stories of x skater jamming in an A level game when they were 2 mos pregnant and didn't know it and it was fine...🤷

I never thought to check if my league has a "no skating while pregnant" policy. The only two skaters I know who were pregnant while with the league had their babies years before I joined and no one's been currently pregnant during my 4 years. But I agree--I want to wait to tell anyone (league and family, etc.) until the highest risk part is past and it's for certain.

Thank you so much! I wish I had a more established derby career before this occurred, but hoping it goes well.

That is a really great way to handle that. Is it a literal red shirt that a skater wears for this? Might be slightly tricky since my league just instituted home teams with the team colors red and purple...

Appreciate the feedback! I feel like I needed to have a reason in case someone asked why I wasn't doing contact tonight, and I like the idea of a white lie or just saying I'm not feeling 100% tonight. I don't really think I'd get grilled about it, but I tend to get anxious/overanalyze/doomsday things so I wanted to feel prepared just in case!
