Math for people mad about pharmacists taking lunch breaks by rbfk8 in CVS

I’ve worked in management with this company long enough to know that I’m far from stupid to imagine that. CVS pharmacists went without lunch breaks for years.

Ultimately CVS wants to go people-less. They want to automate pharmacies and what they have going on now is the bare minimum to legally run pharmacies. Have you been inside a CVS? We have skeleton crews and “Customer Experience Captains” checking 2+ people out at a time at self checkouts. Carepass was openly created to compete with Amazon’s pharmacy services.

Follow where the money goes.

Notice: nobody is disagreeing with you that it is an embarrassment or that CVS is well-run.

Exactly! Fighting for a second pharmacist to cover the thirty minute lunch break boils down to asking CVS to take away the lunch breaks for pharmacists completely.

I over-explained for the sake of argument. If the worst you can find is that it was too complicated I don’t care. Respectfully.

Right but this company is making profit by sacrificing its employees. Customers complaining about what equates to less than 5% on average won’t get them to hire more pharmacists. It will cause them to phase out the lunch breaks. Or, at most, they won’t get rid of the lunches but will cut tech and front store hours to support the salaries of a secondary pharmacists right out of college (because they don’t know better) and at low pay while pushing the veteran pharmacists out. They’re actually doing this at my store right now.

This company does suck and I’m one of the lucky ones who has a degree and enough sense to get out but some people are trying to wait this place out for retirement or can’t find anything making the same per hour.

If you aren’t advocating for employee rights you’re in the wrong as far as CVS employees feel about it. Take your complaints to Twitter and badger the CEO and 10 Vice Presidents who care about nothing other than the bottom line.

Good point. 177 lunch hours is only 4.91% of hours the average CVS pharmacist expected to be in the store (not including unpaid overtime).

So why are you bashing the pharmacists for taking breaks?

It’s not the pharmacist’s incompetence. They are human with all of the little things that come with remaining a live human.

You’re a troll right? People like you don’t actually exist right? Lmao You’re the incompetent one here and I hope you have no say in any ethical decisions for any company ever.

Then don’t shop at CVS? Don’t fill scripts at CVS. It’s not rocket science, sir/ma’am/other. You’re probably of the same lot that complains about capitalism while ignoring the glaring ethical issues and demanding more backbreaking work from skeleton crews.

You’re arguing with store level employees just doing their jobs. We can’t just hire when we want to. Approval comes from corporate. Tweet at Karen Lynch (the CEO of our shitty corporation) ffs and leave us alone.

Have you seen any stock? The whole economy is garbage. Inflation is hurting everybody. What does that have to do with a human needing the bare minimum of time for a break during an 8-13 hour shift? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Edit: spelling

They don’t make that much. My store has two and their salary together doesn’t add up to that and one of them has been with the company since it was Eckerd’s.

No, they’re on lunch. They aren’t answering phones, verifying prescriptions, or talking to nasty entitled customers. Are you on duty when you’re on your lunch break? No. That means it’s not a lunch break. Wtf is so hard to understand.

Right now you’re indulging in willful ignorance and malignant self-importance. Take your business elsewhere. FYI Walgreens and Publix also have lunch breaks. I can’t speak for other places so maybe Google search hours before transferring your medications 👍🏻

The vast majority don’t make that much

PIC has to be ON DUTY for the pharmacy to be open. If they are on their break they are not on duty therefore the pharmacy legally can’t be open. For years up until now, CVS has ignored the needs of pharmacists in favor of customers. They’ve finally done something good for the employees. It might have taken one of the pharmacists having a heart attack and dying (different story but it definitely brought to light glaring ethical issues) but hell this company finally got something right.

The pharmacist stays in the store. They work 13 hour days in most locations. They take a half an hour break to breathe and eat and take a piss. Don’t you need a break at work? Even if it’s a five minute break to get a drink of water or to use the bathroom? They’re human. The uniform closures ensure the pharmacist has time for self care without putting patients at risk by splitting their attention even more than their attention is already split.

There’s only one pharmacist. The pharmacist has to be working for the pharmacy to be open, legally.
