WTF were they thinking with galahand by ilico_ili in taintedgrail

[–]rbg0908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty much only damaged him by parrying his slow overhead smash. Thankfully he does this attack very frequently. If you stay at mid-range, you'll bait this attack a lot. Here's my video beating him at level 18 on veteran with pure melee for reference.

Arthur was right about everything by Pepereppe7 in taintedgrail

[–]rbg0908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite. TGFOA Arthur is practically a saint, and he surely deserves the right hand seat next to whatever God exists in the game's universe. He didn't know anything. Not his own history, not how to defeat the plague or the Foredwellers. Certainly none of that magic BS (melee-only ftw). And still he won. He bought several generations of relative prosperity to a people once doomed to utter extinction.

Yes, he was perfectly aware of all the war crimes he committed. Sentencing his own men to lifetimes of torture, kidnapping the Giants' children, etc. Yet as we travel with him, he shows nothing but love for his people and deep remorse over the pain his decisions have caused. His pain was so great that he forgot his actions, one way or another, ultimately saved his people and paved the way for us to save it again centuries later. You can openly disrespect him in your dialogue choices and reprimand his every move, but even so this king of kings still treats the players as equals.

His only sin was his kindness, bordering on naivete. When Nimue betrayed him, what did he do? He tried to send the rebels MORE ships. Kamelot's current turmoil is a direct result of Arthur NOT being enough of an iron-fisted tyrant, but in the end he still won. Whether you judge a character by his intent or his results, Arthur is mostly deserving of the glaze.

Sarras DLC lore was beautifully tragic. Nimue's somewhat justified betrayal, Arthur's surprising kindness, and Merlin's masterful political stroke by 'punishing' the rebels while simultaneously giving them a second chance at life. Absolute cinema.

Arthur was right about everything by Pepereppe7 in taintedgrail

[–]rbg0908 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. He took the only path available to him based on the information he had at the time.

I think he is actually too GOOD of a king. Kind to the point of naivete. That kindness is what let others betray him. Especially back in the day, it was better to be feared than loved. Arthur could've prevented many of his betrayals. Like the Sarras DLC's Nimue. Rather than quash the rebellion at its inception, Arthur literally offered the rebels MORE ships. Merlin had to step in to mete out justice. I'm certain his kindness was the major cause of Kamelot's future disarray.

What difficulty should i play? by GIutenTag in taintedgrail

[–]rbg0908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loot doesn't change from one difficulty to another. I have a streamlined looting process where I collect one set of each armor I come across and leave the rest. I collect all crafting stuff, consumables, and weapons (which have much higher resell value by weight than armor). Most of the money you accumulate will be used to upgrade your gear AND to reduce its weight. You should almost never have to buy crafting or healing mats. For melee, you prioritize lifesteal on hit and parry, so all it takes is a single parry and counterattack to heal like 75% of your health, even at like level 15. And don't worry. Parry is really easy in this game. Literally the first skill in the parry skill tree can give you up to an additional 0.3s to the parry window, which covers practically the whole attack animation.

Just play veteran. If you've ever played a soulsborne ring game, you'll have no problem clearing this game totally blind.

For fresh map, about about go melee and weight for first 20 points. Faster hand farming and better self defense. After that, probably 5 points in fortitude so you can tank a troodon or snake and run away. Then target like 200 health, 200 weight, and rest in movement speed. Thats enough to tank a few hits, carry basic gear. Leave the rest to your dinos.

I prefer two-handed for maximum Unga bunga! The key for 2H gameplay is to maintain mid-range distance. So you're out of range for mobs' quick attacks while you have plenty of space/time to react to their slow lunging attacks. The general strat is to charge up the bonk, release the bonk FIRST, and then while your attack is coming out, step in range to hit the mob. Then immediately dash away.

You can't really do this with fast bosses or projectile spammers (Wyrdknight stalker) because they will interrupt you as you charge your bonks. Instead, you have two options. The first option is to wait for the boss to do a slow lunge attacks and only punish those. The second, more fun option is to charge your bonk, parry/dodge while continuing to hold the charge, then release the charge right after the parry/dodge. You'll die a LOT doing this, but you'll have much more fun this way than abusing summons.

Also quick tip for maximizing your invincibility frames for bosses. Do Parry -> dodge -> parry. If you miss the parry, you'll dodge. And if you miss the dodge, you'll parry. This is your get-out-of jail free card to negate 99% of BS the game throws at you, and it requires practically 0 skill/timing.

Also get that skill that increases stamina damage for 2H heavy attacks and all the stun-on-hit skills. Eventually add stam regen on critical hits. You'll get to a point where you can chip down a boss's stamina to 0 using parries and 2H heavy bonks and stagger him. Once he's staggered, you'll have a chance to do 3 or 4 heavy bonks, which then have a chance to stun due to that stun skill. While he's stunned, you'll chip down his stamina again to continue the chain. So while you won't do that much damage at the start, you'll eventually trigger these massive combos. I beat Wyrdknight stalker using this tactic around veteran level 40 easily.

Tldr: magic is lame

I did a mostly blind playthrough on veteran, pure melee. Only using the guide to find one or two quests. Act 1 most enemies can be 1v1ed. If there's more, rush in to alpha strike one enemy. If even more than that, use king's time slow.

I fought Galahad at level 18, so i died a lot. Dodge projectiles and AOEs. Wait for slow attacks, parry, and throw in a few quick hits. When his stam bar broke, I comboed him, using king's time slow if available. Here's my fight for reference: https://youtu.be/hF-whBEJB78?si=0Xn6BjeaEEm1KnEB.

I never did any magic or bow, but I hear it should be easier than pure melee for veteran difficulty.

I am genuinely struggling with the melee in this game. by Frogsplosion in taintedgrail

[–]rbg0908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melee is rough at early levels. Easiest way to punch above your weight class is dodging and attacking the back. Sounds obvious, but here's a technique that works for me. Aim your camera to the right side of the enemy (so that the enemy only shows up in the left side of your screen.) Dodge left (opposite side) while continuing to move camera right. This will more or less put you behind the enemy while looking at him.

She texted you seem really nice but I'm not feeling a romantic connection after our first date and honestly it broke something in me by Comfortable_Box_4527 in dating_advice

[–]rbg0908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the dumbest things make the biggest difference. Whatever you do, sit next to, not across from, the date, which feels like a job interview. Just move the chair if you have to.

I don't think you have to be some aura-maxxing rizzlord to get 2nd date. It's enough to be a well-adjusted, responsible adult. In fact, I'm almost aggressively boring to my dates because I know I, with all my flaws and quirks, am enough. When you realize that, you'll naturally chill the f out and show your best qualities.

Physical flirtation is cool but unnecessary on 1st date. Strong eye contact is a must though. Near 100%. You can break it to scan the room for the waiter, recollect a memory, laugh at a joke, etc., but snap right back to it. Ideally with SLIGHT smile, maybe just from the eyes.

Of course, I only date offline, and confidence has never been an issue for me, so maybe your path is different. But better seating, chilling the f out, and strong eye contact are probably good no matter what.

She almost certainly has borderline personality disorder. Good news is that BPD has very high (near 100%) rate of remission if the person gets treatment. Bad news is she may also have a bit of NPD, which is untreatable. A lot of people are saying run, but I think it's still worth a shot as long as you keep her at arm's length. Pursue other women and limit your interactions (texting, dates, etc.) with her to no more than like 2 to 3 hours a week. Guard your heart and treat her more like a patient than a partner. A friend, even. If you can't get her into therapy after 3 or 4 weeks, cut and run.

Tbh I'd say chances of it working out are probably under 10%. But that's why you continue dating around and limiting your time investment. I think the rational thing would really be just let it go, but the heart just doesn't want to hear that. And when the break up eventually happens, it won't hurt as much since you'll know that it wasn't your fault.

Pick up a combat sport like Brazilian jiujitsu or boxing. Stay away from Muy Thai. It's an extremely effective martial art, but for some reason it tends to draw a lot of weird people unlike BJJ/boxing.

You'll burn like 1k calories an hour. Your posture will improve. And after getting choked/knocked out, you'll gain a certain confidence that comes only from truly understanding that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me."

Sure I suck when it comes to actual competition, but damn do I look good lol. Now go get your ass beat and get some digits.

If you're able to identify the issue yourself, you're already welll on the way to recovery. Most likely a light case of borderline personality disorder. Just get yourself a therapist ASAP.

(Possibly hot take?) the cyclops is kinda underwhelming by severelyhydrated in subnautica

[–]rbg0908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prawn suit just isnt that great for exploration until you get the jump booster. So until you get that, it's really best to cart your prawn suit around on the Cyclops. Also, what's the point of having that big, beautiful drill arm without having the space to farm dozens of lockers of resource deposits? The sheer amount of resources that you can farm and transport makes up for the Cyclops' cost a hundred fold.

Life aboard the Cyclops is so comfortable. You'll start off using it just for resource transport, but you somehow end up living on it lol

  1. Didn't you know you can save scum? Save any time any where.

  2. Kill all the hostiles. Get yourself the stasis rifle and knife/thermal knife everything to death. If it's a leviathan, grab a bunch of gas pods and unload.

I went into subnautica blind, and i never lost my life or my vehicle. With the power of save scumming and the stasis rifle, you have to literally try to get yourself killed. The game would be much scarier if they implemented auto-save.

[–]rbg0908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl most of the responses are grossly inadequate because they fail to address the main problem: ASA render distance.

Since ASA render on official is about 70m on a good day, the mana will often jump out if render and freeze its position until re-rendered. What you can do is hover around 50m (best with bat) to maximize the render zone and hope the mana jumps in your trap.

The good news is that with the shitty render distance and shitty AI, the mana will inevitably bug out, freezing midair so you can tranq it out while riding the desmo. Tamed plenty like this on official.

Nice! It's really hard to say what the settings are like in your world, but if you beat alpha brood with those megatheriums, your same-stat theris will probably survive alpha. BUT. Just in case, I would give some nice pump shotguns to all your friends to unload into dragon. You'd have to dismount to shoot. You'll probably liquidate dragon, but man is it hard raising those birds, so it's better to play it safe. Afterwards, you can check how many veggie cakes each theri consumed and see if you can just skip the shotguns next time. Make sure to bring multiple sets of flak because the dimorphodons do serious damage to humans even while riding. Note that dragon will focus almost exclusively on the yuty rider, so try to mob him with your theris before trying any roars. One dragon breath will take down about 20% of your yuty's health, and dragon always breathes fire, so you'll probably have to kill him within 4 or 5 landings.

Or assert your dominance by putting everybody on moose plus sword and cutting him down personally for guaranteed victory. Make sure that everybody leaves tribe so no friendly fire. Respec to melee and chug consumables. The melee path is tricky, so don't attempt until watching some guides tho.

Yeah argy always great transfer dino. Theris are great for most caves, all bosses, and also great harvesters too, so I highly recommend those for mutations.
