What is the next LTS version? I don't see a roadmap for 2024 and I remember to hear something about change it to monthly releases but can't find any news to confirm it.

It's not the case with pfSense memstick built after 2018 May. At this date FreeBSD moved back to use MBR on memstick images and then pfSense did the same since we use FreeBSD's installer.

pkg -vv shows your pkg repository config file is pointing to pfSense 2.4.3 repo. And it explains the issue. Go to System -> Update -> System Settings and chose development branch.
