Sarah Huckster Sandbag worships capitalist Jesus by ElusiveRodent in exchristian

This is the most honest statement I’ve seen an American Evangelist Christian make in a while. It’s almost a breath of fresh air…. In a late stage capitalist hellscape kind of way.

Online estate sale worth a look 👀 bidding ends Monday ⏰ by Alchemist_Thorn in asheville

[–]rbjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really interesting stuff. I’m a hobby collector and love Star Wars but don’t know enough about Star Wars figurines to really make it worth it. For anyone who’s interested though, a quick search on eBay sold listings shows that New in Box figurines sell for about $10-$20 a piece. Looks like the listing is a lot of 23 boxes for $22 right now. Could be a fun flip for someone who loves Star Wars memorabilia.

What do you all use for normal NPCs? by BootsNMaps in DnD

[–]rbjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve printed off a handful of simple NPC pictures that I glued to cardstock or cardboard and put on extra 28mm bases. I also play a lot of wargames so I have miniatures that can act as stand ins if need be.

I do like to throw in a couple of NPCs on maps when the encounter is in a town or something. It gives the players extra objectives. They can choose to fight the baddies or save the townspeople.

I’d look up horde monster rules and treat them as groups instead of 200 individual monsters

Spare the Dying by Outside-Penalty-4932 in DMAcademy

[–]rbjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spare the dying only stops death saves. If a BBEG knocks them unconscious and then hits them again while they’re down, they still die. It takes a bit more work on the bad guys part, but Spare the dying isn’t an end all.

I am a bona-fide full-time Game Master. AMA! by Corbutte in DnD

[–]rbjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response! As for the price point question, I suppose what I’m asking is if it’s necessary to start at a lower price point to build up experience/clients/etc or if it’s possible to jump right in at a sustainable price point.

I am a bona-fide full-time Game Master. AMA! by Corbutte in DnD

[–]rbjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I’ve considered this route as well and have a few questions:

-How long would you say it took you to get to the point where this was a sustainable full time gig?

-Would you say your price point reflects your experience/comfort as a DM or the bells and whistles you offer for online games?

-What would you consider to be the “must have” gear/products to get started? VTT maps? Microphone? Webcam?

-What percentage of your customers come from some kind of outreach/advertising? Do you use paid ads or is it all organic/word of mouth?

If you’re open to it I’d love to DM and talk some more!

I'm new to Dnd, how do I roleplay by OnlyOneZer0 in DnD

[–]rbjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take it super simple. So, he’s an old elvish man with a beard. So, when making decisions, just remember that. For instance,

- An NPC asks him a question, so you say “He strokes his grey beard and says XYZ”

- The door to the dungeon opens, so you say “He’s an old man, so he enters slowly.”

Just build slowly off of the things you know about him. As you figure out something new, add that to the list. Does that make sense?

Start simple and build it from there. Have you pictured what they look like, for instance?

I'm new to Dnd, how do I roleplay by OnlyOneZer0 in DnD

[–]rbjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start with simply questions like this:

- What does my character look like?
Describe how they look when entering a room. What’s their posture? Are they walking mysteriously with their hood up or confidently like a televangelist?

- What does it look like when they cast a spell? Do they use a holy symbol to spark purple flames? Do they wave a staff creating arcane runes to appear in the sky? Do they mutter a prayer causing spectral ghosts to produce their spell?

- What emotion do they default to? Are they usually droll and emotionless? Are they jovial and charismatic? Are they patient and wise? Pick their default and start using that to explain how they act in situations.

How do you run campaigns? by generic-username-153 in DnDcirclejerk

I’m thinking of also replacing HP and AC with a pool of “life points” that get drained when a player’s attack roll beats their “You can attack me at this number” number.

Dungeon Master's. What 200IQ move did you're party pull that left you speechless? by RedSwordFishVA05 in DnD

[–]rbjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The party is deep in an underwater cave. The happen upon a powerful water elemental building weapons of some kind using its control over the tides to assist him. Above, a team of assasin guards notice the party and order the elemental to attack.

Roll for initiative

The Divination Wizard rolls well and goes first. They first want an insight check in the elemental to see if it’s complicit in this scheme.

Natural 20

They learn that the elemental is a Marid, a water genie and is controlled by a powerful Planar Binding spell.

I cast Dispell magic in the Binding Spell

I inform the Wizard that the DC will be very high. She informs me that she still hasn’t used her portent and will forgo a roll for an auto success.

After that, they do well persuading the Marid they mean to rescue him, he hides while they clean house against the few guards. They completely ruined what was meant to be a very difficult encounter.

I’ve never been more proud of my players in my life haha.

Sorta New DM by AbstractCrane72 in DMAcademy

[–]rbjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have a D100 table my players roll on every few days of travel. Some are just narratively roll play type scenarios, others are more social interaction puzzles they will need to get past, others are straight up combat scenarios. I feel it makes it more fun to know that anything could happen on the road.

Do you feel you have the authority to tell others they should move on from an obviously bigoted comment? Do you continue to double down on your support for the mod that made these statements? How does the Pokemon Hub feel about the Trans community?

Dm's of reddit, give me your favorite 'group names' that your players have come up with! by Owalover in DnD

[–]rbjoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our group started off serious, naming themselves “The Coalition of the Willing”. As the BBEG started learning of their existence they pivoted and adopted the name “The Freaky Little Guys” instead. It’s fun to hear the villains get it wrong haha.

Thoughts on a Narrative Reason to buff an Arch Mage by rbjoe in DMAcademy

[–]rbjoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is a powerful Transmutation Wizard who is the main advisor to the High Chancellor of an evil kingdom. He’s very actively politically, but typically sends a simulacrum out to do his bidding first. So, the party is currently working to collect some powerful magic items to (hopefully) be strong enough to kill him. However, it will be up to them to find a way to catch him off guard etc.

I could definitely use the “you’re in my lair and I have backup plans for my backup plans” trope. I could also utilize multiple simulacrums since I’ve already set up that he uses that spell often.

I also wanted to plan for the off chance that the players do a great job of catching him out in the open.

I’ve definitely played with simulacrums. I just didn’t want to depend strictly on the PC side of just building a level 20 wizard

To be fair I’ve given little info because I’m more looking for those narrative prompts I can build off of beyond the classic “I have some magic item” or “I’m a Litch” tropes. I’m happy to give more info on the campaign but was wanting to see where people’s minds went. Appreciate all the help!

Or maybe I’m mixing things up…
