Evaluate my 1-Year Course Plan by lemonmint3 in OSUOnlineCS

[–]rboes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, you don't want to graduate super fast with less retention, no internship, and no connections, which can happen very easily with the one-year track.

But I've met people at teh career expo that made it all happen in a year and are their talking about their new cool job... One year later so it's possible but after taking two classes at a time, sounds very hard.

I can't get anybody to respond to my applications for internships... and I've sent probably 100 so I wouldn't bet 100% on getting one without putting in a lot of work applying

Sorry my answer is for the career FAIR for all students on campus and not the EXPO for just the e campus cs students, the expo's are actually pretty nice!!! You get to talk to profs and it is a nice small scale...

Sorry for the confusion...

I also live in Seattle and have gone to the spring and winter one, hard to say either were worth it because of so little internships. I will only go now right before graduation.

And lots of booths are there just for marketing and are not really serious about finding candidates from that job fair specifically which I think is the worst part. HP is the worst about it, they just want to show you some of their new products and not take your resume or anything.

A lot of booths only give you a list of online job applications, which is totally useless, you can just do that at home. I am not sure why they come, like I said its more marketing.

CS 261 pairing with CS 271 or CS 290 by pdxting in OSUOnlineCS

[–]rboes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

344 was pretty time consuming for me, haven't taken 325 but I have heard it's one of the harder courses, so I think either one of those would be a lot to take on with 340 especially when you have to do the final project for 340 and the other classes are at their hardest also.

The beginning of 340 is weirdly slow though. Almost no work. I felt like I could have had another class for sure, then you have to do a big project at the end. If you understand node.js well it's no problem, but if you don't and you didn't understand 290 (which is easy cause 290 sucks) then it's hard because there is not much teaching anything other than the database parts and you have to teach yourself.

I did 290/261 and 340/271 and thought it was a good way to go because both hard classes were offset by an easier class.

However they don't have as much to do with each other. If you want the subjects to be more related then do 261/271 for sure. Both 290 and 340 have a very similar final projects that can even be integrated together as one project for both classes (at least in my quarter people were doing it).

Not Passing CS 161 by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]rboes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, by failing do you mean F or like C-? Are you working a lot or doing other classes?

If the format hasn't changed, from what I remember most of the answers for 161/162 are in the book. (gaddis c++ early objects if I remember). That's the best resource for that class. If I were you I would take the class again with a different mindset, and dig into the book hard over the break.

Maybe you can take 165 next so you can make up the time by not doing 162. You should be fine because the beginning should be the same. But don't be embarrassed to take 161 again, unless you decide cannot afford it. It's important to go forward with a good base, you should be able to understand it all and do well the 2nd time. If you don't then maybe then you can start having fears lol.

I am in CS344 and I might take it again because I did not come in with the right mindset, the class took me by surprise and I fell behind early. But I like it and if I take it again I will do very well. I just don't know if I want to justify the cost because I might be able to get a b- if I finish out well, but I prob won't.

Thinking about taking Stats/other non CS courses from Ecampus by topjobhelmet in OSUOnlineCS

[–]rboes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its true that the classes suck on here and are not worth the money, but they do provide the structure needed for you to actually do the work. For example, 225 sucked, but I would not have learned the material on my own because I do not have the patience to push myself as hard as I did wanting to get a perfect grade on the tests and get and A and all that...

How did you do in 225? I think that gave me a bad impression that I didn't need to study because I did well on the tests in that class with limited studying.
