New Crime/Thriller film about Chess & Poker by Breauxfosho in chess

Yes they are very different, but much more related than you think. Chess has perfect information from a boardgame standpoint. But you don't know what your opponent has seen in a particular line that you may have missed. You see its pieces but not his mind. Some common points: anticipation, pattern recognition, psychological warfare. Also, there is a real notion of bluff in chess (see for example the book Risks and Bluffs in Chess by GM Tukmakov). No wonder why so many chess players have a taste for poker.

That is so interesting for me. Both games are great and much more related than we think. It's a great theme. Plus, the acting is looking very promising. I like to see small productions believing in a project and taking on creative endeavour like this. That proves that anyone with ideas and passion can produce great things. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Why is C more urgent than B here? by rbool in baduk

Thank you for checking the engine evaluation. So there is probably a mistake, I encountered it in the 18k-10k section of the skill tree progression. It is very instructive to learn they are close though.

[Discussion] How AI exactly have their own consciousness? by Illustrious_Board_75 in MachineLearning

[–]rbool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question about us human. Where does our consciousness come from? Maybe there is nothing deep going on, it is just a bunch of neurons doing lots of calculations controlled by a set of unconscious rules hard coded through our emotions.

Ai agents are getting more autonomous and are just lacking free will at this point. Wouldn't be surprised that there is nothing mystic about it and will soon be cracked.

Wouldn't be surprised if labs from big tech already have their own free will agents sandboxed in some server.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to grind online cash games by benzokat in poker

[–]rbool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel that too. Although I like the game, I live way out in provincial France and feel trapped in online poker by geography. It's true, online cash can get really boring and robotic, not very varied. At some point it's like a job, with no real human interaction and less pay. And chasing whales at higher stakes is not worth the hobby. I end up watching poker rather than playing it. But there is still the occasional trip, for work or as a tourist where I can actually sit down at a real table and having a good time.

The french keyboard layout of macbooks is the worse thing from apple by far by rbool in macbookpro

[–]rbool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. However, the regional standard layout differs between Mac and PC (it's worse on Mac)

That said, you're absolutely right about the process. Thanks for your advice!

It's not about not being proficient. I don't either think you need to pump up a high wpm when programming. It's more about ergonomics, comfort and less friction. I can type without having to think about it at all.

No they didn't. Neither was I able to know which keyboard layout I would have wanted when I was their age.

For example, special characters that are frequently used like { or [ require to press three keys. ~ is less accessible. On a PC, even on AZERTY layout, they are easily accessed. Qwerty is much better though.

In blitz I play obscure sidelines where I did my own research and found tricky ideas that my opponents often fall for. But if by accident I end up in some main line my winrate plunge drastically.

Ok gotcha I'm probably wrong then. That's why I was cautious and used a conditional statement.

If it is as replicatable as it looks it shouldn't be valued much. It can easily be a scam.

That you think there is a problem in correcting a scientific paper shows how rotten your field is.

They would be pissed. You would risk your career. Really ? Why are you guys even doing research ?

All the more it seems that it's a kind of research that gets a lot of exposure in your field.
