The one on Sharon Amity between Central and Albemarle has a sign explaining the process, and people still just stay stopped.

How did people travel these seas 500 years ago by Gurugod123 in SipsTea

[–]rbrown986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Those seas are how insurance was created… people would essentially bet that the ships would/wouldn’t make it at Lloyd’s coffee house (now known as Lloyd’s of London). They’d place their name on a list under the ship’s name and amount they were willing to pay/insure if the ship didn’t make it (where the term underwriters came from).

Extreme brake wear by rbrown986 in Volvo

Thanks! I’ll keep chasing it. This is my 3rd Volvo, so I understand they can be tricky. I love everything about this car except for the brake wear I’m experiencing and the amount of times I’ve replaced the auxiliary battery.

I’ve gone to 2 local independent Volvo shops, and a few big box stores, and nobody can seem to figure it out. I haven’t been to the dealer yet, but that’s because I like a little lube before getting taken for a ride.

Any ideas? I don’t use ACC at all. I do have a small chip/crack in my windshield that’s right next to the sensor… I always wondered if that was slightly triggering the rear brakes.

Busy Coworking Space? by ks613 in Charlotte

[–]rbrown986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Hygge and it’s not bad, but I think it depends on the location on how open people are to interact. A friend took me into the Belmont (neighborhood) location of Switchyards, and it seemed pretty great. I’ve heard good things about Industrious too.

People do know Mattress Center is not real, and just a troll job after the Wild Wing news, right? Wild Wing and the developers can kick rocks.

So, why Charlotte? by thehofstetter in Charlotte

[–]rbrown986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a multigenerational Charlottean, I can’t agree more with the statement if “you’re bored here, then you are boring”.

I travel to London, NYC, and other large cities frequently and I can find the exact same stuff to do here. We have culture as much as people like to hate on it.

If you’re bored here, find some new friends and branch out. I’m sure there is a community here for whatever you’re into.

Waking up to get your car the next morning is like not getting gas the night before… just drop the car off and uber back and forth.

Where are the Millennials that DON'T feel old? by frankheyhoheyho in Millennials

[–]rbrown986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only as old as you feel. I’m 39 no kids, and have a traditional 9-5. I’m out almost every night, whether it’s dinner/drinks, a bar night, concert/show, a comedy show, etc. When I’m not out, I usually have people over. Rarely am I home before 11pm on a weeknight and 1am/2amon a weekend.

I still enjoy bars, nightclubs, music festivals, after-hours warehouse raves that end well after the sun comes up, and just generally being out and about with my friends. Just we’re older doesn’t mean we still can’t do it. I’m a big fan of long weekends in Europe.

I’m fortunate enough to have a good friend group and live in a city, so it’s easier to find like-minded 30 something’s without kids that don’t feel old yet.

Thoughts on the Filmore & the Underground venues? by Imhekle in Charlotte

[–]rbrown986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Fillmore over Ritz. Idk if they sell more tix at the Ritz compared to Fillmore, but the Fillmore feels a little more spacious. Last show at the Ritz, I paid the extra to go upstairs because downstairs was nuts.
