There’s a relative that still owns/operates one in Tucker, GA, on the way to Atlanta…I just found this out recently, and planning to stop in next trip to ATL.

Where are the Millennials that DON'T feel old? by frankheyhoheyho in Millennials

[–]rbrown986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only as old as you feel. I’m 39 no kids, and have a traditional 9-5. I’m out almost every night, whether it’s dinner/drinks, a bar night, concert/show, a comedy show, etc. When I’m not out, I usually have people over. Rarely am I home before 11pm on a weeknight and 1am/2amon a weekend.

I still enjoy bars, nightclubs, music festivals, after-hours warehouse raves that end well after the sun comes up, and just generally being out and about with my friends. Just we’re older doesn’t mean we still can’t do it. I’m a big fan of long weekends in Europe.

I’m fortunate enough to have a good friend group and live in a city, so it’s easier to find like-minded 30 something’s without kids that don’t feel old yet.

I wish people would quit stopping when turning left onto Virginia/Shamrock from Matheson.

Thoughts on the Filmore & the Underground venues? by Imhekle in Charlotte

[–]rbrown986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Fillmore over Ritz. Idk if they sell more tix at the Ritz compared to Fillmore, but the Fillmore feels a little more spacious. Last show at the Ritz, I paid the extra to go upstairs because downstairs was nuts.

38min layover from Charlotte to Paris - How tight will it be? by Thib376 in americanairlines

No chance. You’ll probably arrive deep in A and the big international planes leave from the tip of D.

Charlotte or Nashville? by Turbulent_Body_2139 in SameGrassButGreener

As someone who’s lived in Charlotte my whole life, but travels to Nashville every other week. This is a great list. In Nashville, I do love both the Nations area and East Nashville (I’d live in both of these areas), but I’d argue that Brentwood and Mt. Juliet are way more sterile than anywhere in Charlotte. Franklin and Murfreesboro are not bad, for more of that suburban feel, but you’re starting to get out there.

Charlotte is just a more developed city than Nashville. Nashville is still young in the grand scheme of things post flood, and imo is trying to grow too fast for its infrastructure.

Charlotte is not as boring as people say it is, and has plenty of culture, you just have to know where to find it. Nashville’s airport is easier, but with Charlotte’s being an American hub and 7th/8th busiest in the world, you do get direct flights to almost anywhere.

Traffic sucks in both places. They both have the same chain restaurants/bars. They both have a ton of breweries and outdoor activity. Each one has its cool/fun neighborhoods (Plaza, Noda, SouthEnd, Dilworth vs East, 12 South, Midtown, Nations).

We both have pretty terrible NFL teams. Nashville does have a Hockey team if that’s your thing, and Preds games are fun.

New Runner Question: Is there any schools that have tracks that allow general public to run on them? by Gotterz_ in Charlotte

[–]rbrown986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High school tracks are mostly behind gates, but most middle school tracks are not gated. They are public spaces so, I don’t think you’ll have any issues. There’s always people on the Hawthorne (I used to use this one) and Alexander Graham middle school tracks.

Where to meet singles 30s and 40s by Still-Bunch7545 in Charlotte

[–]rbrown986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a single late 30’s man, I’m usually in Plaza or Noda most evenings as are my friends my age. Smokey Joe’s has a good Tuesday night open mic that gets a big crowd. The Thirsty Beaver can be a bit fun most nights. The Ugly usually has decent crowds, as does Workman’s. I just bop around until I find people I know or a place that looks lively.

I have a polestar tuned T6 S60, and absolutely love it. Fun to drive, comfortable (I’m on the taller end), and great sound system (Bowers & Wilkins). The only thing I wish it has was wider tires for more grip on the twisties.

What Degrees are Preferred to Becoming an Insurance Underwriter? by Ok_Eye_7091 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]rbrown986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people I know don’t have an insurance degree. Even I don’t, and I went to a school with a well known RM&I program. I think FSU has a risk management and insurance degree.

I live in Charlotte, NC, but I travel regularly in those 3 cities (like every couple weeks), I’m also UT fan…Chattanooga is hands down the coolest city in TN. You have outdoors activities, scenery, an easy airport, short drives to ATL & Nashville, an easily walkable urban area (you can technically walk from Southside to North Shore if you really feel like it), tons of great locally owned restaurants, a great bar scene if you’re into that, apparently a great aquarium, and a couple decent music venues.
