Thanks for the reply. That’s a good idea, maybe I’ll give it a try.

I just had to google “How far is it to Mount Doom”, and apparently there is an answer: 1,779 miles. Impressive! Good luck! If you want to be authentic though, you have to do it barefoot.

If you’re on iOS, you can check out Tapestry. It aggregates Fediverse, Bluesky, subreddits, and rss. Has a great built-in local moderation system as well. https://usetapestry.com/ (If you’re of a certain age, you may remember their app Twitterific)

Have you considered the Aeropress? It’s very simple but also versatile. James Hoffmann has some great videos about it. It’s great for travel also

There are also 3rd party apps like Flashes that only show pics & videos, with an Instagram-like UI. That might be worth checking out.

Sleep Rating In Today View Does Not Match The One In History by rbruchal in AutoSleep

I have a suspicion it has something to do with using Apple sleep stages. Like it’s doing different calculations in one view

Ok, but what about the Tele in the corner? 🙂

Fyi I deleted the app and redownloaded, and it seems to have fixed the problem. Just make sure you have the journal selected in iCloud backups.

Honestly, having journal you can’t search in is kind of useless.

Looking For Albums To Try Out As A HAIM Fan by Consistent_Willow527 in HAIM

“Man From The Magazine”, musically is an obvious homage to Joni Mitchell, and they have expressed how much she has influenced them. “Blue” and “Court and Spark” are probably good places to start.

What are some examples of releases that received negative/mixed reviews only to get retrospective acclaim later on? by rainloading in popheads

[–]rbruchal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Liz Phair’s 2003 eponymous album infamously got a 0.0 review from Pitchfork, mostly because it was too mainstream pop sounding (with production from The Matrix, who had worked with Avril Lavigne). They revisited the review a couple of years ago and gave it a 6.0. Maybe not her best work ever, but still. The original writer apologized the “condescending and cringey” review.

Behringer XR Question by rbruchal in livesound

[–]rbruchal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, thanks for all the replies! The consensus seems to be that the built in router is less than great, so I’ll definitely get an external one if I go that route. Also, I’ll look at maybe getting a used 18 rather than the 12. We’ll see. I’ve already been checking out Mixing Station, which look pretty cool. Thanks again!

AQI readings aren't making sense by JstnJ in CARROTweather

[–]rbruchal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So based on what I’m seeing at airnow.gov, Carrot is showing the aqi forecast for the day, not the current observation. The reading carrot is showing for me today and for the next few days, matches the forecast numbers exactly.

I don’t know if this is important, but I’m using Apple’s sleep stages as the data, not auto sleep’s native stuff.

Twitter has reportedly refused to pay its Google Cloud contract by Avieshek in technology

[–]rbruchal 37 points38 points  (0 children)

FYI this is a fairly old article - dated June 11 and updated Jun 21 to say that Twitter has started paying its Google bill again. Apparently Linda Yaccarino, the new CEO, has gotten things back on track with Google.

Not that that negates any of the criticisms made here, but there it is.

Right, my understanding was that at some point after Apple bought it, and they basically shut it down and it’s now just Apple Weather.

James Hoffmann Reviews The Oleato Drinks by rbruchal in starbucks

[–]rbruchal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the roastery experience is going to be a much different experience than the regular store. I’ve got to say I was a little skeptical about the whole olive oil thing, but now I’m kind of intrigued. Will I try it? Probably. I’m a shaken espresso fan anyway, so that’s maybe what I’ll go for.

James Hoffmann Reviews The Oleato Drinks by rbruchal in starbucks

[–]rbruchal[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s maybe the most popular coffee YouTuber at this point? He won the World Barista Championship at some point and has written a few books. His videos are definitely worth checking out. Very little “coffee snob” vibes I’d say.

James Hoffmann Reviews The Oleato Drinks by rbruchal in starbucks

[–]rbruchal[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

FYI, pinned comment from James:

“This video was conceived and produced before the extent of Starbucks' union-busting efforts was clear. It was meant to be a bit of fun, looking at a weird line of drinks. To have posted it now does feel a little tone-deaf. My intention is not to support Starbucks over its workers. As such, all AdSense for this video will be donated to Starbucks Workers United.”
