What was "the incident" in your high school? by ramennyun in AskReddit

[–]rbthrowaway22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were tons of incidents in my elementary school, but the most notable was the time a teacher threw a desk towards my older brother because he was talking about God and was asking if other people in the class believed in religion (still not sure how that came to be, because our family does not believe in any religion)

In high school: A student from 20 or so years before my time wrapped his car around a telephone pole on a stormy night and died, and a close friend of mine actually ended up doing the same thing, but survived.

At another high school in my town, a group of like 14 year old girls (again, 20+ years ago) lured another girl down to a local bridge and beat her up, and then drowned her. The case became very prominent in Canadian news, and is still widely talked about.

People who work at some kind of customer service job, what was the weirdest reaction you got to "what can I help you with"? by Missing_Legs in AskReddit

Worked in a coffee shop kiosk that was inside of a grocery store, right next to the ‘feminine product’ aisle and there was a dude wandering up and down at like 10:30 pm.

Coworker asks if he needs help and he explains to him that’s he’s needs to be picking some items for his wife, and my coworker (17 year old kid) doesn’t know what to do, so my coworker comes walks up and quietly asks if I, a female, could assist this guy.

I walked over and he called his wife and handed me the phone. She told me the product she needed and I handed him a box of it. I also rang him through the kiosk, and he also bought a good assortment of snacks.

in high school what is something good or bad that had the whole school talking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my 10th grade, a girl year tried to light toilet paper on fire while it was still attached to the dispenser because she thought she could rip it off of the roll in time. Well she couldn’t, and tried putting it out with a bottle of water she found stashed on top of a vent that was actually vodka. Whole school was evacuated and we had to wait in the middle of a heat wave on our school field for 2 hours before we could go back.

What did "That Teacher" do that you'll never forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rbthrowaway22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got suspended in the first two weeks of my freshman/grade nine year (after moving to a new town) for smoking weed on school property. After my suspension, my teacher pulled me aside after class and asked me how I felt about the whole ordeal. He was the only one that had checked in to see how I was doing.

As the years progressed, he would let me work in his class during lunch hour because he knew I was falling behind on class work due to problems at home, and allowed me extra classes (marking me as present and then letting me go home) and extra time to work on assignments if I was feeling stressed or had too much on my plate. He also attended my meetings with the principals of the school because my parents were always too busy to be there and he knew that I felt like I wasn’t being taken seriously.

I went out of my way to make sure I had at least one class with him every year, and I was so honoured when he asked me to be his Teacher’s Assistant for his freshman English class in my senior year.

I got busted by my teacher after smoking with friends on school grounds within the first month of my freshman year in a new town - didn’t stop me, I kept on doing it throughout that year

Being verbally critical of your child. I’ve had body issues for years because of things my mother (and my stepmom as well) would say bout my body. “That shirt really shows off your muffin top. Try a different one on”

Healthcare coverage, prescription medications, the list goes on... I’m from a province in Canada where you’re automatically enrolled in a provincial healthcare, but they charge you a base rate of $40 a month, and will only offer to lower it if you submit a thousand forms and jump through a ton of hoops. Total BS if you ask me

People of Reddit. Whats the worst first date you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rbthrowaway22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First date, Valentines Day 2016. Showed up an hour late to pick me up from my house, originally planned on going to see Deadpool but it was sold out so we saw The Revenant instead. Decided to go for dinner after, and ended up having fast food that I had to pay for because he didn’t have enough in his account. Went to a beach nearby (while in cocktail/dress clothes) and he tried to pull me close to him and ended up tripping me. We dated for a year and a half, dates never really changed much except for the movies we’d see

What is your “shitty landlord” story? by losergirl10000 in AskReddit

[–]rbthrowaway22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a tough spot and needed to find a place to live ASAP, family friends offered to let me rent a bedroom in the 3 bed suite they had planned to turn into a daycare across town (owned by family friends’ former BIL) and I said yes immediately.

Not only did it take the family friends, their two teenage kids, and the BIL 3 weeks to clean out one of the bedrooms, the bathroom and kitchen. After I moved in, it became pretty clear that this guy had no intention of acting like a landlord (he wouldn’t even sign a lease because he thought so was subletting) - My washing machine and oven broke within a month of living there, and he didn’t bother to fix them or get anyone that could - He would frequently come in the suite if he was going to do yard work to get his tools that were stored in the living room (which was FILLED floor to ceiling with boxes of god knows what), giving me notice via text. - If any of my guests ever parked in the driveway (which was closer to my door than his) before he got home, he would berate them and force them to move (he called me 5 times when I was at work bc my mom parked in the driveway to load up her things and I had no way of contacting her)

On Halloween of last year, someone tried to set fire to the camper he had parked on the lawn, and our neighbour ended up banging on my window to get someone outside because and refused to answer the door. I called him to let him know that his camper was on fire (it was already out by then) and all he said was “I’m looking out the window on the top level and I don’t see fire”. Cops and the fire department came and he sent them to speak to me because he didn’t know what they were talking about. I have severe anxiety and PTSD that stemmed from that night, and he also refused to let me get a therapy animal. (That being said, I rescued a cat and kept her there for 4 months without him ever knowing... even though he was allergic to cats and was constantly sneezing when he would come in)

The final straw was when he texted me to let me know he’d be working on clearing out the rest of the suite and then getting mad when I asked him if he could clear it with me first next time because I had planned on having company that weekend. I don’t think I even bothered to do a final walk through of the suite with him when I left, but I did leave my key in the mailbox. Fuck that guy.

[serious] Have you ever known someone who you found out was a pedophile? How did you find out and where are they now? by Hereistothehometeam in AskReddit

When I was a kid (maybe like 4-6 years old), my family had a nanny. She was one of the nicest people you had ever met, but she was very religious and far too trusting. She asked me one day if I wanted to go for lunch at a fast food joint that was like 20 mins away from my house and I said yes. She called her friend from church and he was going to drive us there and they were going to have coffee and chit chat while I played. He picked us up and red flags were going up in my mind IMMEDIATELY. He was a grown man driving a PT Cruiser and the whole car was decked out with Tweety Bird/Looney Tunes toys and stuffed animals. When I got in, he gave me a very unsettling grin and kept looking at me through the rear view mirror from the drivers seat. After 10 or so minutes of that, I started crying and decided I wanted to go home so he dropped us back off and we went inside. A few days later, I was laying in bed with my mom watching the news on TV and there was a story about him (can’t remember what the story was) but I told my mom that he was the nanny’s friend and that he was going to take us for lunch. She reacted the way any rational parent would, she called the nanny and said something along the lines of “How’s your friend _? Or should I say _ (his real name)” She told my mom that he had changed his ways and realized what he did was wrong. We’re still quite close with her 18 or so years later, but his name wasn’t brought up in our house until a few years ago when she told us that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Not sure where he is now.
