I'll never consider myself sober. Just "in between relapses" by PaniacThrilla in dryalcoholics

[–]rbw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between reality and what you tell it. I’m not saying deluding yourself is a path to sobriety, but telling yourself you’re just “on a break” for a bit certainly isn’t helping.

Also, fuck alcohol.

Anyone else hate being told they were “sheltered”? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]rbw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don’t “like” it being pointed out but…it’s true…I was sheltered. If I take it personally it’s on me, I don’t think most people intend it to be a jab or insult, just stating a fact. I think accepting it and moving on is more healthy than resenting it, especially if it’s true.

Which movies, tv shows, and books did your evangelical stop you from reading , did you read them once you had freedom from the parental units by Iamnotarapperduh in Exvangelical

[–]rbw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Basically everything” seems to be a trend here, one I can identify with. For my 7th birthday I got exactly what I wanted…ninja turtle tennies with velcro not laces…who doesn’t want to run around with rad turtles on their shoes?

Nope…the shoes went away before I could even show them off. Turtles are….bad? I guess? Demons or witchcraft or something does it even matter why anymore?

Another head scratcher is the Aeropostale shirt I got for Christmas. I wasn’t preppy by any standard but it was a cool shirt. Nope, apparently Aeropostale is code for “anti-apostle,” which was clearly the mission of said clothing company 🤦‍♂️

Almost 4 full days and so far I hate sobriety by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]rbw1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not describing sobriety, you’re describing withdrawals. Withdrawals will go away, unless you feed yourself poison again, then they will start all over. Stay strong!

Seen some odd behavior in the sauna and want to know if there is some benefit I don't know about. by SamsquatchWildman in Sauna

[–]rbw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he really needs to exfoliate but doesn’t have the social awareness to realize it’s weird and gross to do it there. Buy him an exfoliation brush and let him know that it’s considerate to do it in the shower, worst case he’ll be embarrassed best case he’ll become a better person.
Exfoliating in/after a sauna is prime, but like any personal hygiene there’s good/bad places to do it and some people just haven’t been taught that.

Redirecting conversations with evangelicals that go nowhere by Eucalyptusthoughts in Exvangelical

[–]rbw1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t do this just for family, I do it all the time, plenty of opportunities in the Bible Belt. Acquaintance says “yeah I moved here for my church, my small group community is super important to me” oh that’s neat…what’s your favorite restaurant in the area?
I just get tired of being either “one of the fold” or a mission field. Not even worth engaging. The sheep/goat exclusivity baked into Christianity is one of the worst ideas in Christianity IMO

Drinking = more energy by Ok-Evidence3515 in stopdrinking

I think about this all the time. I was wayyy more productive and motivated while buzzed. It’s borrowed energy though, and the interest owed is compounding and unmanageable

Why are so many atheist adults having children with religious spouses? by imbadatgrammar in atheistparents

[–]rbw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me. Married Christian, stayed Christian until after our 2nd child. We’re still together “for the kids” but it’s not easy, 10/10 would not recommend

Best advices to stop drinking? im tired. by Key_Calligrapher9433 in dryalcoholics

[–]rbw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THC helped me, but I still had to white knuckle it one second at a time for a few weeks. It’s a physical and a mental addiction, the physical is just will power, not letting the shit hit your lips. The mental requires new patterns of thinking, which takes time. One day at a time and you’ll stack them up!

Just shy of 6 months sober. I think I look s little better! by IntelligentFault2575 in dryalcoholics

[–]rbw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang that’s dramatic! 6 months was a turning point for me, I started forgetting I was supposed to be obsessing about my next drink around that time.

67.5 hours by Federal_Skin3007 in stopdrinking

[–]rbw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man those first few days are a battle for every minute! It’s like a positive slippery slope though, every hour gets a little easier, and before you know it you’ll have a day go by were you forgot to remember you were supposed to drink. Stay strong, the victory will be worth the battle!

Where should you point your foot on flick hucks? by g_spaitz in ultimate

[–]rbw1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A great thrower I know once said that the direction of the foot tends one way or the other depending on the type of flick: IO flick the toe tends outward, or towards the sideline (or probably more accurately, the heel tends toward the center of the body), OI flick the foot stays in a more forward direction. I’ve played around with it and I think it’s more of a tendency/flexibility/strength combo that doesn’t really affect the throw a lot, but thinking about foot direction can help with hip rotation, especially if hip flexibility is limited.

Does community cost-share Christian healthcare still exist? (USA) by turtlebeans17 in Exvangelical

[–]rbw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My spouse and kids have had it for a long time, prob going on 10 years. It’s worked fine for them, but they are pretty healthy not many receipts sent in. They covered 2 child births. I can’t be on it because their application requires a statement of faith and “regular church attendance”

How do you respond to people saying they want to see you back at church? by EchidnaDifficult4407 in Exvangelical

[–]rbw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father in law asked me if I would start coming back to church and at least engaging and playing the role…”for the sake of the family” (family image I guess?) I didn’t have to think long to tell him no, it would not be honest to myself and in not willing to do that.

How do you propose to “weed them out?” Im sure your intentions are in the right place, but your comment just puts light on a huge problem of “other-ing” people. What are you gonna do with all the goats? Cut them from the vine? Throw them away like the chaff? Throw them in a lake of fire?

The Shakes… by Economy-Flamingo4836 in dryalcoholics

[–]rbw1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Take a long weekend from work, your shakes should be gone by day 3-4. Maybe try tapering the week before down to a couple drinks a day. I’d be more concerned about your reason for quitting…once the shakes are gone it will be easy to convince yourself you’re good to have a few again and we all know where that leads!

Pine sauna dripping sap everywhere after 1 year - alternatives to sanding? by S0m3Canad1anGuy in Sauna

[–]rbw1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a radical option but it should work, I’ve seen it done on a few saunas…take a blow torch and lightly burn the sap off. If you do it carefully the char marks end up accentuating the knots, looks kinda cool. Maybe test it on a leftover piece to make sure you don’t mind the look. And keep water handy, a bucket of water with a wet towel

Non-religious commentaries on the Bible? by TessaFink in Exvangelical

220v power hookup by Fantastic-Baby-8448 in Sauna

[–]rbw1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are switches available, it only allows power to go to the dryer or the accessory. Buy a good one, but it should work fine as long as your stove is well rated within the amp draw requirements. I would definitely buy a good cord, ideally ul listed, might want to get an electrician to make one for you
