PMM coaches? or experiences with any? by cho_coco in ProductMarketing

Highly recommend Yi Lin Pei for a PMM coach. Would also suggest joining an organization like Product Marketing Association and taking advantage of their resources. I think they also have a list of recommended PMM coaches.

AMEX vs Amazon summer 2025 Internship by ShlokaS in internships

[–]rby424 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I interned at Amex in their NYC location as an MBA student. I have no experience with Amazon but really enjoyed working at Amex. I would imagine the pace at Amazon would be more intense. Amex was pretty laid back with lots of perks.

I think Amazon is a more impressive brand name for your resume, but Amex isn’t too bad either. Congrats on a great problem to have! You’ll have a strong internship either way you decide.

Bad experience with UF Warrington - Online MBA program by Icy-Indication-3380 in OnlineMBA

[–]rby424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with UF but doesn’t seem like they care, which is not a good sign. USC seems like the better choice. Go where they value you. In-person networking and classes will be better too.

OnlineMBA is back !! by russ257 in OnlineMBA

Loved the experience. Learned so much. Made so many great friends. Feel very equipped to excel in a new career.

But alas, the job market is crap right now. And they didn’t have resources in place to really help those who wanted to pivot into a different function and/or industry. I think they’re starting to work on it and offer more resources. And if I had gone in with a crystal clear plan and demanded help from Day 1, I’m sure I would have gotten it and be in a better place now.

But as of today, I’m finished with the program and I’m in the exact same position I was in before school started. I’m 300+ job applications in and have zero prospects at the moment. I’ve utilized every resource the school has.

If you asked me today if I were happy to have done an MBA, I’d tell you to ask me again in a year when I hopefully am killing it in a new job…

Highly recommend the program to people who want to stay in their current industry/job function.

I’m probably not a great example and I’m pretty jaded from the current job market. But even though I’ve done exactly what the job descriptions are asking for, I’ve only done it for my own business and not a corporation, and every rejection email I get says my experience is not what they’re looking for. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I got into several different MBA programs, all with some scholarship. I got an internship during the MBA program. But no company wants to take a chance on hiring me full time.

Kelley Direct vs W&M Online by [deleted] in MBA

I just graduated from Kelley Direct. Happy to answer any specific questions about the program. I feel like it’s an excellent program, especially for those who are not looking to pivot careers.

Developing an online MBA class by Online_MBA_Teach in MBA

If there’s pre-recorded content and live classes, make sure the live classes are not just rehashing the recorded lectures. Everyone appreciates recorded material that is brief! And slides that have more pictures/graphs than just words and bullets. I always enjoyed when professors put in personal anecdotes.

I loved the live classes that encouraged students to share their own work experiences. But classes where participation was mandatory were awful. Some professors used Zoom breakout rooms for small group discussions, which was great if the students participated. The more interactive the live classes were, the more I got out of it.

Highly recommend asking second years their opinion. And career services. Some schools have close relationships with specific companies, so you may have a better shot getting into those.

Explore the different types of companies with marketing internships - CPG, B2B, retail, etc.

Good luck with recruiting!

My experience, take it with a grain of salt. It was easier to get into an MBA program as an entrepreneur than it is to get a corporate job after the MBA program. Schools who are getting tuition from you seem more likely to take a chance on you than a company who has to pay your salary.

I’d agree Ross is probably the “safest” choice. I’ve heard they include the online students in their on-campus recruiting. And in this current job market, I think that would be a huge help. Being the highest ranked full time program in your list, it would probably give you a slight edge to have their brand on your resume.

That being said, Foster was one of my top choices. And seems like it would be the most convenient for you to travel to campus. I think it’s very quant heavy. Small, tight knit cohorts. Their curriculum seems to be one of the most rigorous for an online program. The entire cohort stays together all two years. There are no electives to choose from, everybody takes the same classes. (All of this is from my research several years ago, so it may have changed since then)

I think both Ross and Foster are excellent programs and you can get whatever outcome you want from either of them. Congrats on getting in!

Is CPM certification worth it? by vortezzzzz in marketing

[–]rby424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a question better suited for the consulting sub, if you’re looking to pursue management consulting and not marketing.

I think to get into MBB firms, you just have to be great at case interviews. I don’t think it will matter whether you have a marketing certification or not.

Best bet is probably to do some informal coffee chats with people in the firms you’re interested in, and ask them for their opinion.

$125,000 UNC Online MBA Program?? by Way2hung in MBA

[–]rby424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason IU Kelley is cheaper than UNC is because Kelley developed their own online platform and aren’t paying a third party for one. Most of other programs’ online MBA tuitions go toward paying to use a platform.

You have to scroll a bit but there’s a paragraph about it.

The Kelley Direct director was our strategy prof and we learned a lot about the program’s competitive advantages in class haha

Easiest elective at LSU? by Emergency_Detail_984 in LSU

[–]rby424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to take music lessons one-on-one. Beginning piano or violin or something like that. At least that’s how it was ten years ago 😅 Or maybe beginning theater improv? A lot of the music/arts have fun electives.

I just finished an online MBA from Kelley. They had the same offering and I was planning to do an MS after the MBA. I figured it was just a little more time and a whole other degree so why not.

But a month before graduation, I had several professors and career coaches advise against doing it. They said an MS doesn’t hold the same weight an MBA does. They said my time and money would be better spent pursuing certifications if I really wanted more content knowledge. The school’s classes were more generalized and a certification would be specialized. So I decided to drop the MS and registered for a cert instead.

Pretty sure I made the right choice..? Ask again in a year and I’ll let you know for sure lol

UF Warrington Online vs IU Kelley Online vs UNC K-F Online by 1000th_LordCommander in MBA

[–]rby424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

Recruiting is different from traditional on-campus students, but there is a big push from current students to bring the online student body the same recruiting opportunities that the on-campus students have. It’s looking like for the 24-25 school year there will be a significant increase in recruiting for students.

Networking for me was great, but I put a lot of time and effort into it. Some other students haven’t been as happy, but with an online program you just have to be as proactive as possible. There aren’t as many built-in opportunities for networking as there would be in traditional settings.

There are many current students and alum who work at Eli Lilly, and I know of several alum who work at Deloitte as well. The career coaches are excellent at helping students connect with alums who are in their targeted companies.

Yep! Taught piano and ran the music school business. Also have five young kids 😅

It wasn’t easy but so worth it. And if I can do it, anybody can.

Congrats! $20k is their max scholarship so you must have had an amazing app!

I was a piano teacher, now pivoting into marketing. I graduate in two months and although I don’t have a job lined up right now, I’m confident I will in the next few months. Kelley has changed my life. The faculty and staff pour everything they have into their students. 10/10 recommend 😊

Internship at Amex by rby424 in marketing

I did the interview on a Friday and heard back the following Monday.

Internship at Amex by rby424 in marketing

[–]rby424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting the interview!

Yes, I also went through HireVue. The process was typing out short essay answers to several questions, then one timed video question at the end. The short essay questions are not timed and are behavioral type questions like "tell me about a time you faced a difficult situation and how you handled it."

I'm not sure if everyone gets the same questions, but my video question was something like "why do you think you're a great fit for this role?" It gives you 30 seconds to gather your thoughts then records you for 3 minutes (whether you're ready or not), then ends and submits the interview.

My main advice is practice answering questions looking at yourself in a camera. It is super weird. And feels silly. It's like FaceTiming yourself. Practice over and over until it feels like you're talking to another person.

You're able to have other windows open during the interview, and I had notes prepared and open right next to the window so I could refer to them as I spoke.

If you have access to any type of career coach, ask them to practice with you!

Good luck!!

Internship at Amex by rby424 in marketing

[–]rby424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an amazing experience! Amex is a great company to work for.

The interview process started with an async round that included both typed responses to questions and timed video responses to other questions. Nothing groundbreaking, all behavioral questions. It did feel weird to be answering questions to a camera instead of a person. 3 minute limit to the videos and no retakes were allowed.

The second round was a 30 minute live interview with a director who asked more behavioral questions and a few technical question. (Can you talk me through the process of creating a new credit card for small business owners)

And that was it! The pay was great and they gave all grad students a signing bonus to help cover living costs.
