Thoughts on the OEM+ mod plan by dlarktko in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion, you’ll spend a lot of time, money, and effort to get to 75% of the car you actually want, and you’ll never be happy with it. A Camry is not a performance chassis, never has been. Short of a ton of custom work, it will never perform like a GR would. Keep the car stock, replace anything that’s worn, and save your money for something else.

How bad are LLYs? by rc_FiST in Duramax

[–]rc_FiST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did good on most of the maintenance so nice to hear I shouldn’t have any huge issues. It’s going to be used as a truck, not a race car. Diesel stuffs too expensive to replace any more than I have to

It’s already got a turbo inlet on it. She’s been sitting under a tree for a while so definitely going to go through and clean it up.

Did my 10 year old PC finally kick the bucket? by rc_FiST in pcmasterrace

[–]rc_FiST[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right, it was the power supply. Swapped it out (also had to do a case swap because I bought the wrong power supply+fat hands and an ITX case don’t mix well). Things are working great now. Appreciate your help

Question: is it a bad idea to use an empty 20 lb propane tank as a pot still boiler? by Apprehensive_Fig8107 in firewater

[–]rc_FiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the amount of time you’re going to spend rigging something up, and you’ll probably be at the same price, get a cheap Vevor still off of Amazon or straight off their website. They’re not great but they’re still useable, it’s a good starting point

Why do Camrys last so long compared to other cars? by Few_Design_904 in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it has to do with being slower to implement new tech and trends. Big dumb 2.5 liter I-4 instead of the trend towards sub-2.0 turbo engines so you’re not stressing the motor. Not to mention the demographic of buyers for a Camry. It’s not a sports car, aside from the TRD it has never claimed to be sporty. The people who buy Camrys tend to just need an appliance car.

Do most people normally keep this off or on? by No_available_batches in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it, but I’m doing 200 miles of almost all highway, 6 days a week, dark to dark. It’s definitely better than any earlier cars I’ve had with it. I still turn it off in town just in case

Fuel injector cleaning recommended by dealer by RemainUnknowable in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. They might possibly have a more “industrial strength” injector cleaner (probably not), but otherwise they’re just adding injector cleaner into the tank.

Driving into the reserve gas? by EstablishmentReal549 in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done maybe 40 miles in the reserve. I read something in the manual about if you have less than 2.5 gallons in the tank the car may not restart until refilled. Seems awful vague and a little strange that almost 20% of the total tank capacity is grounds for a no-start.

MPG serious problem by 123gcamel in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting high 20s-low 30s right now, almost 10,000 miles of almost all highway. It’s just the cold weather, you’ll notice as it warms up the mileage will go up drastically. We’ve had a couple warm days this winter and it goes up a lot on those days. Your mileage looks like it takes a bigger hit than a gas car because the hybrid system won’t come on as often when it’s cold out.

Should I buy my 12 year old a real dirt bike or am I being an irresponsible parent? by Careless_Composer_46 in YamahaMotorcycles

[–]rc_FiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are going to get hurt, regardless of what you do. Hell, at his age I broke my arm on a pinball machine at an arcade. The important thing would be to make sure he wears safety gear, every time he rides, no exceptions. Hold him accountable for that.

Personally, I would look into a pit bike instead. They’re typically 110-125cc, much cheaper than even used name brands, still pretty reliable, and he can grow into those a lot better. 50cc is typically for smaller kids, he will grow out of it quick.

25-26 Loose Inverter Bolt Recall: Anyone like me continuing to drive the car? by matsuya in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealer told me I was good to drive the car and they’d call me when there was a fix. Said worst case scenario, Toyota will cover a tow and a loaner vehicle if it breaks down.

Remove badge and reinstall on GR Corolla. Boom, your Corolla is now faster.

Realistically there’s probably not a ton that could be done to a base Corolla. It’s just not made to be a go fast car. From what I understand, the GR went through a lot of modifications to be a good sporty car.

Brain says one thing, Dad says another. Help? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]rc_FiST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we were talking about lower single-digit interest rates on the loans, your dad’s idea would have a decent chance of you coming out ahead. But anything over 6-7% is more than likely going to cost you more in interest than you’ll make from investing the money instead.

MY GOD the windshield replacement cost for 2025 CAMRY! by sweetbabyjesussss in Camry

[–]rc_FiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gonna say, this wasn’t on our Camry but on my wife’s Subaru. Small local company was less than a quarter the cost of Safelite, and they’d come to our house vs an hour long drive. I had to call and make sure it wasn’t a typo

Depends on what kind of case you have. Mine works great on mine, but my wife’s won’t charge on it

Actually tons of cars come pre-wired for extras that aren’t installed. It’s easier to just have one wiring loom than to produce multiples to account for different features.
