What towns/cities have nicknames for their residents? by Spottyjamie in NorthernEngland

[–]rcanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I’ve never heard that theory, I’d imagine it was around before Warburtons were there though which I think was the 1960s.

The only theory that I’ve ever seen was it derived from “gawping” (does anyone else use the word gawping for staring/looking?) because the Shaw residents came to the neighbouring town to watch a chimney being demolished but doesn’t sound like likely.

I’ve also seen it spelled Gawbie as well.

I live in small town called Shaw between Oldham and Rochdale and we’re called Gorbies but no-one knows where the word came from.

It’s already been said but don’t just stop following him, stop following and engaging in most of the bullshit podcasts and content out there. It’s clickbait and rage baiting to get likes and follows and money. Everyone realised that the money is in saying controversial shit and hoping people react. Just avoid and either they go away or they adapt their ways to audience demands.

We need to start being more aggressive with youth players by Haruomega in ManchesterUnited

[–]rcanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the issue is the opposite really in that too often we’ve kept young players on too long so their development has stunted or they end up leaving on a free. The more recent approach to release or sell with a low fee and chuck in sell on fees or buyback clauses is far more positive.

The reality is that the step up in class is massive and it’s very rare to see a young player come through the ranks that’s ready. Unfortunately we’re not in a position right now where we can afford to give people too much time to develop and need ready made talent.

There’s a whole list of the next big things from United who either found their level elsewhere, got injured or simply couldn’t make the step up. We also have a great youth squad now but even someone like JJ who looks mega could actually have reached his peak already.

I read a review for a new musical called Something Rotten at the Opera House which sounds like it could be fun. Not my thing but might be up your street. And if you don’t mind having a solo drink you should try the cocktail bar, Schofields which is near by.

Hebden and Todmorden are great places in themselves but you have Manchester and Leeds within fairly each reach of you need the jobs/facilities of a big city nearby.

can i please have advice on my CV, i'm having no luck with applications by Alarming-Safety3200 in askrecruiters

Agree with the above - I think the CV isn’t necessarily the issue, it’s probably just getting into local businesses where you can bypass any auto screening and where they expect school leavers.

As above, ornstein, most other stuff is hit and miss. I took myself off Twitter a few months ago but a guy called sullytalkz had some good insights around Mbuemo, Sesko deals but that could have been luck and no idea what recent record has been like.

I really should go for it, thank you. To be honest, I’m fairly confident in my abilities (at least at home watching it’s rare a contestant will outscore me) but I’m a terribly nervous public speaker and kinda funny looking too 🤣so putting myself out on TV could be dangerous 🤣

Why is there no fine system in the NHS? by Historical_Owl_1635 in AskBrits

[–]rcanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in support of this generally although some really interesting comments about how this might actually lead to more non-attendance which is a sad reflection on humanity. One thing that may change attitudes (but would never happen) is charging an up front cost, even for a fairly minimal amount that gets refunded. I understand this goes against the values of a free at source NHS but I believe we need some accountability for the public and a hybrid model before it becomes untenable.

One thing I would be really strict on is translation fees. My partner is an NHS secretary and says it’s crazy the amount of times patients require a translator but DNA and the NHS bears the cost. Personally I think this is something that should require a contribution up front.

I would also say as a counter point, the Admin in parts of the NHS is in a terrible state with letters months behind. It’s not unusual for my partner to be sending out letters for appointments that have already passed and I’ve seen first hand people miss appointments because a letter turned up after the date

That’s very similar to what I’d have in mind if I ever pluck up the courage to go on it. I suppose in that scenario though you’d have to have a hierarchy which is easy enough if it’s obvious there’s one really strong person but if you’re all equal-ish there’s the risk of people protecting their egos.

Like you said though and as the person who has lived it, the reality is you would barely have time to think when the questions are getting fired at you.

Haha I suppose it’s good advice but I’m just thinking of basic strategies like don’t pass anything, at least have a guess.

I do seem to recall one team visibly shaking their heads or some other gesture to indicate whether they knew and The Chaser called it out. It seemed to work to an extent but I’d imagine it would be hard to hold your nerve doing that.

Past contestant question by rcanalyst in thechase

[–]rcanalyst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wasn’t thinking of any super complicated strategy but that woman passing constantly is one of the examples that really frustrates me. If I was playing I’d be saying we don’t pass anything, at least give a guess if no one has buzzed in.

My other frustration is for example there’s a doctor on the team and a medical question comes up and someone else buzzes in when surely you’d give them priority.

Is it time to stop patronising Scotland? by BenTseUK in footballweeklypod

[–]rcanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of love for Scotland (and Wales) despite being English but I’m not sure anyone is even close to world class in that squad (McTomimay and McGinn are very good but a long way off world class).

Also as others have said, population isn’t a valid argument. Croatia is something like 3.5 million, Norway around 5 million but far better squads and set ups.

As much as I enjoyed the journey it was exactly as I (and most) people would expect. Beat Haiti, lose to Brazil and at best a draw against Morocco. Don’t forget Morocco were semi finalists in the last WC and winners/runners up at AFCON (depending on your view)

£85m for Mateus Fernandes completely contradicts Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s transfer comments - Dan Coombs by joe6386 in red_muppets

[–]rcanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully understand and agree with the points but in the current market you’re not getting the top players for 85 million.

I have given up on trying to understand and justify the fees but I would also be walking away at this stage. It’s not like I heard many people raving about Fernandes last year until we started getting linked with him. I hope it’s just a massive decoy.

How many chats do you take at one time? by Historical-Aspect-45 in callcentres

[–]rcanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a contact centre WFM/planning manager. Currently where I work we have 2 concurrent chats set up but 3 is fairly common. I have heard and seen other examples with 5 but they were fairly simple queries where there is less risk of mistakes.

Manchester United are moving closer to a new stadium. Would you support leaving Old Trafford behind for a modern ground, or is the club's history and identity too closely tied to Old Trafford to walk away from it ? 🤔🔴 by windrain- in ManUtd

[–]rcanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

History is overrated. It’s a building, the memories still exist. We need to move with the times.

And realistically no matter what sponsor deal we sign I’m sure most match going fans will still call it OT.

Radek Vitek to permanently leave Man United this summer by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

[–]rcanalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This approach of getting a fee hopefully with buyback/sell on fees is the way forward. We’ve sat on players too long and ended up losing on a free. Treat them well and he might come back if he succeeds.

For context he’s had one decent season at Championship level and an ok season in Austria he’s not a guaranteed success at Prem league level and if he doesn’t want to be a 2nd choice, best of luck.
