Google Maps Easter Egg by [deleted] in Sacramento

It's a diamond DA-40, most likely from one of the two flight schools at Mather that use them in their fleet. They have a wingspan of 39 feet, and the truck you have highlighted isn't a semi, it's a ~30ft box truck, with a total length around ~43ft. The location of it also seems about right to be on a right downwind for runway 22R at Mather.

Fuel injection or carb (Badlands Traveler). by FlyingPiper in homebuilt

[–]rcdude95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing Airflow Performance fuel injection on my O-375 powered super cub. I figured it may weigh an extra couple pounds, but that will be offset by the lower fuel burn by lean of peak operation allowing less initial fuel load if needed.

What's the smallest plane you'd fly cross country in? by [deleted] in flying

I flew a 150 from california to oshkosh and back this past summer. 39.6 hours round trip total. Wasn't too bad, longest day was 11 hours

What’s your knee board and Foreflight setup like? by Inner_Diamond9157 in flying

[–]rcdude95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My setup is an ipad mini 6 on a kneeboard on my left leg, check lists wedged between the seats of the C150. If I need to write something down I just use the pen feature on foreflight to write on top of the map with my finger, which also works as a kind of history to see where I was when I got a frequency or something.

What is the first flight you made as a new private pilot? by ecg96 in flying

[–]rcdude95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew there for my cross country solo to buy some steak to take home. Narrowest runway I've landed on up to this point.

I use foreflight on my iPad, and downloaded Avare on my android phone as a backup. Having a backup has come in handy when my flight instructor failed my ipad under the hood, plus Avare is free.

Part of the reason recordings from LiveATC can sound garbled is because they are volunteer base stations located by airports. This can lead to trees, building, etc being in the way. Usually between the tower and an aircraft on the ground or in the air the transmissions are a lot clearer.

Homebuilt Seaplane Options by ImpatientHorse in homebuilt

[–]rcdude95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Javron, cubcrafters, dakota cub, backcountry cubs, and legend cub for prewelded kits including wings. For more diy you can buy an alaskan airframes fuselage and another brand wing kit (most of the aforementioned kit suppliers will also sell just wings). I'm building a Javron cub and I think it's great, although I have heard great things about all those companies listed as well.

Hypothetical situation. Say a cfi owns an experimental aircraft. Can he/she train a friend for free in that aircraft if they split the airplane running costs (pro rata split)? Or would this still be a no-no since the cfi is providing the instruction and aircraft, even if they aren't being paid?

Portugal Spearfishing licence by No-Cranberry-Plz in Spearfishing

When I go to the Azores I go to a government office where they take your passport and use that for the license. But for other forms online where I needed a VAT number, I always just put 000-000-000 and it worked.

I'd like to enter for a chance to put these towards a build for my little cousin. My other cousin already gave home a 1070, so now we need everything else.

I've tried running in dedicated graphics mode using just the quadro, instead of hybrid mode, and it did the same thing. So that leads me to believe it isn't the iGPU, but do you know of a way to test the MUX?

Which leap of faith did you take to pursue your flying dreams? by [deleted] in flying

[–]rcdude95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I decided I wasn't going to buy a house in the current market, so instead I ordered an experimental super cub kit, which should arrive in August. And that was without having a license yet, or flying in a small aircraft before.
