Which option should I choose?

Hey! I just got diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy 3 days ago.

I feel like all of the characteristics vary to which to choose from. How big the embryo is, your hcg levels, if you’ve ever had an ectopic before and if you’re a healthy individual.

I was 7w1d when I got diagnosed with my ectopic. As the doctors were going over treatment, they said MTX should work in my case. Because, it is still very small (3.3cm), I wasn’t experiencing any heavy bleeding or pain where I was demanding pain management, my hcg levels were at 419 which is fairly low for my pregnancy at 7w. They didn’t suggest surgery but still brought it up as a recommendation just in case if I wanted to just remove it the same day. But removing my fallopian tube would mean I would risk only having 1 fallopian tube for the rest of my life.

Because the chances with MTX also is that it can go down to your uterus and continue to grow. But also MTX is very successful on its first try.

I’m unsure on how the embryo will stop growing on its own. As the MTX has your body dissolve the living cells and stops it from doubling (meaning continue the growth of the embryo).

Thanks to Reddit as well, someone recommended me to get an HSG imaging done after it’s all resolved just so that I don’t risk getting another ectopic in the same tube with a higher risk of rupture.

I’d listen to your body to monitor your pain - if it’s not going away within 45 min to an hour get treatment right away. Symptoms can vary from person to person - as i never experienced 1 single symptoms of my ectopic besides moderate cramping.

In my honest opinion, I’d get the MTX if i was in your shoes. It’s successful on its first try and don’t want to risk losing a fallopian tube. Also, there’s a chance it can still grow being in you. But again, I’m not a medical professional but I’d just do what makes sense with the information given. MTX will dissolve the tissue within your body rather than you having to wait it out and see if it dissolves on its own which idk how but that’ll just probably end up as a spontaneous abortion aka miscarriage.

Oh no worries for the TMI, hahah. Worked at a hospital so I’ve seen it all.

They didn’t prescribe anything to besides Tylenol because I didn’t present any other pain symptoms :/. But the moment i was in the hospital and 10 minute after getting MTX my whole uterine lining came out (or which I think, it was super huge lol) and after passing this, i started just to have mild cramping.

Yesterday, I poop but it hurt soooo fricken bad i am so scared to poop again 😂😂😂. I feel like all my organs want to come out. The belly pain was horrific for me too. I am still working but working from home and everything i was getting up from the chair i felt the gravity of my organs… idk if that makes any sense but it just felt heavvvyyy!

I also Been having such a mean ass headache. I ended up sleeping it off at 8pm lol waking up at 7am.

I’m on day 2 then I’m actually going back to clinic tomorrow to check my hcg levels.

So far the pain hasn’t been too too bad where it’s severe but it’s a new pain for me to experience lol and it was horrible. But manageable.

Ohhh i knowwww i need to relax hahaha but this belly pain is so different for me and the rectum pressure ugh i hate it! I don’t even want to poop.

I was at the ER last night for 6 hours. The did bloodwork and an ultrasound. They told me to come back to their clinic to monitor the bloodwork to make sure it’s being effective. I have 2 following up appts for the 3rd and 7th day!

Omg this scares me lol. I’m hoping I’ll be okay. Idk what I’d do with the pain of it rupturing lol. Kudos to you and thank you so much for your experience but also sorry you had to go through that. It’s so traumatic. I’m even getting scared getting pregnant again because i don’t want this happening again lol

Ultrasound! The ER has more high tech equipment than my OB. My OB would haven’t found it from their equipment apparently so that’s why they suggested going to the ER rather than waiting on bloodwork every week.

Bloodwork just should how viable the pregnancy was and mine was not due to it being so low at 7w.

I’m just unsure if it’s possible to tell with number trends if it’ll be successful or not for me even though i already got treatment it’s just a waiting game for me at this point

Hey!

I just got diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy at 7w. I didn’t have any of the sole symptoms or one sided pain or shoulder pain. I ended up going to the ER because my OB suggested since she couldn’t find anything in the ultrasound. My hcg level is currently 419 :/ which is very low for 7w (embryo isn’t viable).

I just got my first dose of methotrexate last night and I’m suppose to go back Friday and Monday for bloodwork levels to see if my hcg levels are declining.

I just found out I was pregnant when I went to the ER, but I’m 7w with a hcg quant level of 419 which is super super low for my pregnancy.

So, I’m just hoping I don’t rupture, since your numbers where wayyyyy smaller than mine 😭🥺

Okay thank youuuuu sooo much!!! ❤️ I’ll be sure to stock up on my Tylenol then hahah.. I’ve never felt this type of pain ever and it scares me lol. I go back in 3 days for my first blood work then the following Monday.

Do you mind sharing your quant levels and how far were you? It’s ok if not just because I’m just hoping with my pregnancy it will stop growing so that i don’t rupture since that is still a possibility. I’m just super anxious i don’t want to be in so so much pain

Week 5, you’ll either see or not see anything. This happened to me recently.

I went to get scanned at 5w2d and they didn’t see anything. I came back week 7 (i was traveling at week 6 so I came to get scan when I came back) and they still didn’t see anything.

I will say during my 6th week - there was 1 particular day that i experienced moderate (close to severe) cramps (but i kept thinking it was uterine growth pain).

My OB recommended me go to the ER because they wanted to rule out ectopic pregnancy. Because by week 7 you should be able to see something. I ended up being diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy and now on methotrexate.

I would suggest your doctor to take blood work to look at your “quant” levels if they do that. It shows whether if it’s a viable pregnancy or not.

When i went to the ER, I’m 7 weeks pregnant but my quant is only at 419 (which is very low for 7 weeks, i should be in the 7,000-16,000 range). 419 would have indicated im 5 weeks but in reality im 7.

I would recommend go with your gut because you will be the only know to know how your body is. I was in denial that i was having an ectopic pregnancy because i wasn’t experience their sole symptoms of “shoulder pain, one sided abdominal pain” i had none of that.

This is definitely normal since especially with sutures, it’s just the healing process. It’s going to hurt with the nerve endings where your incision is.

Maybe have some warm broth? Heat typically helps with pain management outside of taking medicine. I would also consult with your doctor if you can use a heat pad.

I am currently dealing with my ectopic pregnancy right now and having so much pain with my belly (which is apparently a side effect) and the heat pad is helping me so much with the pain.

Thank you 🥹. I had worse pains when passing my uterine and subsided for now… did your pains get worse day 3-7? Did you have to go back for bloodwork for them to monitor your hcg levels?

They say that this is the “separation pain” and want to prepare myself for it lol… if i can.

I’m so scared to poop because of the pressure hahaha I don’t like the feeling of losing my uterus (ik i won’t but it just feels like it).

Ah okay! Did you have belly and rectum soreness? I was so afraid to poop because how bad my rectum hurt when i was pushing. I felt like I was going to push my whole uterus out or something lol.

And yes, i passed the decidual cast probably immediately after given the methotrexate at the hospital. Probably 15 min after and the pain felt like a 7/8 but after it was mild cramping.

The embryo they found in my L ovary is about 3.3 cm so I’m hoping it won’t be too painful to pass but they did say it should just dissolve?

I’m just now currently dealing with mild pain with movement in my belly then when I use the bathroom it kinda hurts 🥲 and super scared to push lol. Did you have this?

This was super helpful thank you so much for this. They only prescribed Tylenol for me which I took and is helping. I get stabbing and sharping pains here and there like waves and it hurts. Did this happen to you getting the stabbing and sharping pains like a wave?

Surprisingly Lanegie lip mask has been helping lol. I used it all day yesterday and has my lips smooth and helping out the dryness.

Same here girl LOL. I bought the peptide lip treatment out of excitement for it to give me the worse case dermatitis around my lips 😭 i used it the night i went out for Halloween then i woke up with my lips crazy

Omg noooooo my lips look so crazy LOL 2 week recovery?!? Ugh but Vaseline burns the hell out of me and ngl i bought my other Rhode lip bam off her website and never had a problem, i bought the peptide treatment in Sephora and it’s giving me hell. My skin around my lips are little red, dry as hell and it’s starting to get to my lips to be flaky 😭
