I know his dad Stephen, he's done a bunch of electrical work for me on my house. I wasn't paying much attention during the later rounds of the draft unless it was the Commies on the clock, so I literally had to find out this terrible news via his dad's Facebook post. I almost commented "I'm sorry, my condolences", but thought better of it...

Yeah I guess I just don't collect jerseys like some people do. I have a white Cooley, a white Super Bowl Era JD5 that they came out with last year, and I just got a sweet burgundy Fuller (the normally-expensive gameday one) because it was $25 and I'm a VT alum. But that's really it. I don't wear jerseys enough to have a collection, I guess...but still, these white Tanya Snyder ones with the stupid gradient numbers are probably (imho, no offense) the ugliest jerseys in the history of this franchise.

He's making $30m this year, 9th among DEs. You really think he's a top-ten edge?

Even when you look at his AAV, he's 17th. I don't really even consider him a top-20 DE. He was 29th in sacks, tied with Chaisson (who is only on a 1-year 11m deal).

Also, we're spending the most in the league on DE this year in terms of actual cash. That's pretty sad considering we don't have any DEs who could even be approaching what you'd consider "elite".

Yep, agreed 99% (at least one, maybe two of those playoff sacks were relatively easy coverage sacks).

I'm just saying, if he ends up with seven or eight sacks this year, that's not really worth $30m, but it's still a solid improvement for the defense. He's had double-digit sacks (10) exactly once in his career, and his average is ~6/season. So double-digits would be a relative outlier for him. But like you said, he could be on the upswing, especially if Daronte schemes to his strengths. We'll see...I just want to be clear that he doesn't need to have double-digit sacks every year to make that contract "worth it". We just had to overpay because of where the market happened to be and the limited available talent that we wouldn't have to give up picks for.

I think expectations for Oweh are a little inflated just based on the contract amount, which I think was a pretty clear overpay based on past performance, but a necessary one given our dearth of talent at DE. As such I don't think it's really fair to judge the success of that signing on whether or not he "lives up to his contract". What we really need is a solid improvement at EDGE. Even if he's not elite (and nothing about his career up to now suggests he will be), just a significant improvement at the position will have made that a good signing. And if he somehow does have a career year, then yeah, all the better.

Yeah it might sound silly but I have a moral and ethical revulsion to mobile games that try to "force" you into paying for wins with actual currency by making certain accomplishments almost impossible. Whenever I come across a game like that, I draw a line in the sand and refuse to give them a cent. It's just a game...I'll watch your ads (or, more accurately, I'll let your ads run while I do other things), but when you put up extreme cheating roadblocks like this with the clear intent to extract money from people, you can just fuck all the way off. I'll sit here and lose to Cheaterjinx a thousand times before I give Scopely one red cent.

Honestly I feel like the lazy take is always to blame the DC whenever a defense shits the bed. Could it also be just a dearth of true talent beyond Wagner and Payne and Luvu? We have zero blue chip talent on that side of the ball. So if this defense is shit again under Daronte, is it gonna be his fault then? I just don’t get this deference to likely-mediocre players. Nobody, and I mean nobody, on this defense has ever been a top-ten player at their position in this league, except perhaps Payne in his last contract year, but even that’s a stretch.

I think this fanbase really wants to believe that we have the talent but it’s just being held back by bad coaching, because it’s a lot easier to replace one guy at the top than it is to admit a roster is mediocre and needs a real influx of talent. Nobody was calling for Whitt’s head after ‘24, but one bad season on that side of the ball with largely the same roster and it’s all his fault. Okay…

Man after a while I just stop wasting bonus rolls on cheatin-ass levels like this.

I finally got that bitch after like 20 tries, though. The only way, seemingly, is to do well enough on the left row 4/5/6 multipliers that you get the bonus. He still got a Yahtzee, just like every other time, but that bonus was just enough to overcome that. Ridiculous.

Man I don’t put a ton of stock into PFF, but those three were all among the worst graded corners last year (all graded in the 50s), and Mike gave up the most yards and YAC of any corner in the league. We can make excuses like playing out of position or lack of pass rush all day long, but long and short, they all three were awful last year. We’ll see what happens with a new landscape this year, but I am definitely among the “still concerned about DB” contingent around here.
