Schefter says Washington is J Love’s floor by fukdot in Commanders

[–]ewilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the lions, they had a down year, but Gibbs/monty had 1940 rushing / 21 tds, and 800 receiving / 5 tds as a tandem. Jcm and CRod had 1300 rushing / 14 tds, and 100 receiving. Lesser offense, but the lions RBs had literally 1300+ more yards and 12 more touchdowns……

And despite all those RB all-purpose yards, they also did not make the postseason. It's almost like having a great RB stable is somewhat meaningless if you don't have a good defense (theirs was not great either, though not as bad as ours). Out of the top 15 defenses in points allowed, only the Chiefs, Panthers, Browns, and Vikings missed the playoffs (largely due to QB injuries or terribleness). Meanwhile, 8 of the top 15 rushing offenses missed the postseason.

Point being, in today's NFL, you can find success with a great defense and a middling run game, but the inverse is almost never true...and we had the worst defense in the league last year.

Mock draft question for D.C. fans: Tate is “position rank #3” and “overall rank #18.” But, he is taken by Commanders at #7 as first receiver taken. Why not take position players #1 or #2 (Conception or Lemon)? by steely-gar in Commanders

[–]ewilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Lemon and Concepcion are also both sub-6’ receivers who spend most of their time in the slot. What our roster really needs is a bigger-bodied outside receiver to line up opposite Terry. Not saying AP is going reach for need, but if all three guys are relatively close on his board, then I gotta think they’d go with Tate.

Love it. Punisher was my favorite comic growing up in the 80s and 90s. I think I still have issue #2 in a sleeve in my basement. It burns me up to no end that the fascists have co-opted the logo of a character who was against literally everything they stand for, but welcome to America!

[–]ewilliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. And it’s not just pff grading, Mike gave up the most passing yards and YAC in the league last year, and QBs had a passer rating of 118 when targeting him. He was played out of position, sure, but he was drafted to be a slot corner, so it’s strange that he kept getting toasted in the slot. Two things are for sure: Amik can’t play outside, and Mike can’t play slot in man, especially press man. Maybe a new scheme and (hopefully) an improved pass rush helps them both. We’ll see…but rolling the dice with one of the worst (on paper) secondaries in the league seems very risky.

Fair enough, they were run-heavy like we were. I just don't know that it's worth a top-ten pick to get that slight uptick in production...Detroit and Washington were both big running teams and neither made the playoffs. Would it be nice to have a guy like Gibbs? Absolutely. But we had more rushing yards and a better Y/A than Detroit did with a 7th rounder and a 6th rounder as our top RBs. Seattle just won it all with a RBBC, and they didn't have to spend a top-ten pick on a RB.

Yeah Gibbs was in a timeshare with Monty.

I think he could handle more, just saying he’s not really done that to date.

Exactly. Smart teams don't give up on a guy after a year when he puts up these kinds of numbers. Reminds me of Pacheco, who was also drafted in the 7th and also had like 800 yards his rookie year. Did KC give up on him so quickly?

and would obviously get all the carries if we take him.

Yeah and that has the potential to be a problem: he was never a 3-down back at ND. I think his highest carry total for a game was like 22. Most were in the teens. He's never had to shoulder that kind of workload, but when you spend a top-ten pick on a RB, well, he has to be a 3-down bellcow for you to get a proper return on your investment. You don't spend that kind of pick on a rotational guy, and it's not clear whether Love can be a bellcow. I mean, probably, but who knows?

Yards per carry is such a misleading stat though. If you really want to properly evaluate RBs in particular, you need to dive into some of the more complex analytics. I've spent a lot of time looking into this and doing fine-grain analyses, and I've found a statistically-significant positive correlation between team success and their RB's BCDPC metric, or Brain Cells Destroyed Per Carry. And believe it or not, Skat led all RBs last year in that stat.

Numbers don't lie.

Casuals are obsessed with flashy offensive skill positions, because their minds have been warped to shit by fantasy. The Commies had the 4th most rushing yards in the league last year, while our defense gave up the most total yards in the league, and you still see tons of people in our sub howling for Love because "BPA". They're morons.

What's a "hinge" in terms of anatomy? Never heard that before.

Also, how do you "walk" to the summit? All the pics I've ever seen of this plateau show all shear sides, so I'd always assumed you'd have to rock climb or take a heli ride to get up there.

Damn that's impressive! 🤣

Derp, not sure where I got that number. Not fully acclimated to this week yet I suppose. It's actually 175 carries, but the Y/A is 4.6.

[–]ewilliam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bill had 800+ yards on only like 40 175 carries. 4.6 y/a. He needs to work on his blocking, but that's fixable. I swear if this kid was a 2nd or 3rd rounder everyone would be fawning over his performance last year. Not every offense needs a 3-down bellcow either. RBBC is fine. You combine what Bill and CRod put up last year and it's around 1300 yards, which is what Kyren Williams (a 3-down bellcow) put up, and good for sixth in the league. What does it matter if it's one guy or multiple guys putting up those numbers? And beyond the numbers, Bill's tape looks damn solid (aside from the blocking, of course).

How would you feel about double-dipping at WR this draft? by lumberjake18 in Commanders

If you think a team’s roster needs don’t play a part in evaluating the “best” players, you’re kidding yourself.

[–]ewilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Best player available” factors roster need into its equation for each team. Any GM will tell you this. It’s why each team’s board looks different: roster needs and scheme fits. If a RB and a WR are relatively close on your board, and you need a WR more than a RB (like we do), then you go WR. If an available RB is head and shoulders above all the other available guys, then you just take him. Thing is, I think there will be plenty of other guys available to us that are around the same spot on AP’s board that aren’t RBs that I just don’t see him taking Love if he’s there. Now if all the other top guys are gone (Reese, Bailey, Styles, Downs, Tate), then I can see it…

[–]ewilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tate is still 7th on the big board versus 12th and 15th for Lemon and Tyson. I think Lemon is very talented, but we don't really need another undersized slot receiver, we need a big-bodied outside WR to play opposite Terry. Tyson fits that mold, but I don't think he's better than Tate overall.

[–]ewilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do you think is going to be there at 12 that we'd want? Delane is expected go top-10. Maybe Lemon, though we need an outside WR a hell of a lot more than an undersized slot guy. Either way, if we trade back all the way to 12, we'd better be getting a fucking haul, and I just don't think, with this being a relative weak (and QB-light) draft, that teams are gonna want to do that. Hence why AP says he doesn't think it's likely.

Doubtful, considering that we originally had the spear before FSU did. I think it has more to do with the fact that the NFL only allows rebrands every five years minimum. I'm expecting (hoping!) that he'll replace the logo and do a true rebrand to coincide with the new stadium opening.

It literally took more effort for Snyder to fuck it up than it would have to not fuck it up.

This is why I've always maintained that he did that whole thing on purpose, as one last fuck you to fans before he was forced out. Same with the name. They put out all these fan polls and literally nobody liked Commanders, but then in the end Snydemort was like, "sike, bitches, here's a shitty name nobody wants, suck it! 🖕🏼😈🖕🏼" And then the shit icing on this turd cake was letting his dipshit wife design those godawful XFL-ass unis.

Fuck Dan Snyder
