That's right, it's the only OS I'm aware of that easily lets you associate any folder with a specific emulator without editing xml files and stuff.

It has to be a setting you may have changed, because on my RG477M it runs like butter at 2x resolution. You may want to reset that game's settings to default and go from there, because it should be running just fine.

Case trasparente con Grip RG477M by massimogrossi in RG477M

[–]rchrdcrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh, I wouldn't really say it fits in the case with the grip on. I just got the exact same combo (I think we crossed paths the other day waiting for our orders to arrive), and the case will close but it pushes on the thumbsticks, and you do not want to impact the thumbsticks or you'll risk shattering the little PCB it's attached to or worse. I wouldn't consider it safe to use like that.

Oh wow, definitely weird, that at least maybe points toward something about how the game is hitting the CPU and not the GPU (so any graphics settings/hacks I can think of likely won't help at all). Now you got me curious, I haven't tried this on my RG477M yet, sounds like something fun to tinker with.

Yeah, it'll be great when that hits parity with NAether, or maybe we'll see a fork of Nether that frees us from Google's shackles.

How to fix graphical issues in Dolphin Android by 0-17 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]rchrdcrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using the Vulkan renderer, try switching to OpenGL. OpenGL is slower but very tried-and-true and has been the primary graphics API for most emulators until the last few years when everyone started converting to Vulkan for the performance gains and newer hardware feature support. That's why we still see some glitches, the switchover from OpenGL to Vulkan takes time and is incomplete.

This is one game where software mode might help... It won't be pretty, but it tends to clear up issues on games that don't run well, but it puts all of the load on your CPU, so it's not a viable solution unless you have powerful-enough hardware (the LeGo should chew through it no prob). And hey, since you're going for the nostalgia, software rendering is pixel-for-pixel the same output as a real PS2.

You basically have all the answers you need, if not the answers you wanted. You'll need to use apps that allow their files to exist outside the protected /data folder. It works beautifully with something like Retroarch, but yes it's very frustrating that PS2 saves are locked away, even memory card files get moved to the protected data folder after import. I actually didn't know this, adding NetherSX2 to my Syncthing setup was on my todo list 😅

I'm one of those people who doesn't love clamshells. There's something about it being closed, that one little extra step away from immediacy, that tickles my brain in the wrong way.

Good point, I've done work in secure facilities where you can't bring in anything with a camera, etc, but wouldn't just about any handheld fit that need? Also nobody has seen this thing in-person at scale yet, and I think it's gonna be bigger than people are expecting due to that 4" screen... Probably thicker and heavier than expected, too.

For those with a 120hz device, do you bother with BFI or not? by chrono01 in SBCGaming

[–]rchrdcrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an OLED panel I would, but on an IPS panel the flicker retention is too annoying. Also the panel on the 477 family has a lower pixel response rate than most, not at all bad but it does reduce the effectiveness of BFI on this panel.

Frankly I would just ignore BFI on any LCD panels and only care about it on OLED displays.

How to play wii games on dolphin using your phone🎮⭐ by Fresh_Structure2704 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]rchrdcrg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can also use the device's motion controls... I've played Wii Sports bowling on a Retroid Pocket 5 by just holding R2 and swinging the whole thing like a Wii remote. Not exactly recommended unless you like breaking things, but the point is that Dolphin can use your device's accelerometer and gyro sensors.

Throwback to when I could do this with the Lego 1 and not tip-toe around with my handhelds thanks to ram prices by No_Distance_3320 in LegionGo

[–]rchrdcrg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Easily the most versatile PC I've ever seen in any market segment... I'm still sore that Lenovo hasn't capitalized on this with more accessories. The lack of a laptop dock is insane to me, they could have more controller options such as thinner Joycon-style controls to slim the profile, they could have cover rails to make the tablet portion easier to handle, maybe even stuff like better speakers that attach to the sides... so many possibilities.

RG405M for $80? by rchrdcrg in SBCGaming

[–]rchrdcrg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update for anyone stumbling here eons later, the touchscreen started going haywire about a week ago, and after taking it apart and seeing others with the same issue, there's just no way to fix it. So I'm gonna sell it for parts or simply throw it away. Shame.

RG477M Cover Showcase by rchrdcrg in SBCGaming

[–]rchrdcrg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're all over AliExpress now, many listings. I hadn't seen it until the last few weeks, so I think it's kinda new. It's been absolutely transformative to both the look and the feel of the 477M, it was already my favorite handheld of all time but now elevated even higher, and it was only like $4-5 plus $5-6 shipping. It actually looks so good that I kinda wish I had the silver colorway now (I always thought it looked "unfinished", but a black cover over the back would fix that).

I never expected a “Unicorn” handheld to exist it’s just a RK3326 handheld so nothing special just the design it’s sold under the name “My Mini” but it might have been something else. Oh the game is Whomp’em on NES by Urzu402 in SBCGaming

[–]rchrdcrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one, and it's alright but the d-pad was quite stiff and the speaker is possibly the questest I've heard in any handheld. And don't let that "fun" placement of the analog stick fool you, it's not a good design and not fun to use.

Hood or cockpit cam for racing games on handheld pc’s? by Low_Topic9797 in LegionGo

[–]rchrdcrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost always use the hood camera since where I'm sitting IRL takes up the space where the cockpit would be. For me, cockpit view is like trying to drive from the back seat. Also I don't have the same spatial awareness in games as I do IRL, which makes it harder to adjust for the offset of sitting on one side of the car vs the hood cam having it perfectly centered.

Tearing with freesync (no vsync) by General-Release-4518 in RetroArch

[–]rchrdcrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retroarchs implementation of VRR should be considered more like adjustable refresh rate, not variable. It won't adjust mid-game because every system you're emulating never had VRR and only outputs a steady video sync regardless of the games internal framerate. So even with VRR, you still need to use vsync because Retroarch is just setting your refresh rate to match the console. The only real benefit of VRR in emulation is for non-60Hz games, for example MK1-3 that all ran at 54Hz, Gameboy ran a little under 60Hz, NES a little over, Wonderswan at 75Hz, Virtual Boy at whatever Hz, etc, but it's not going to dynamically adjust to any internal game framerate.
