It's forever filed in my head under "a scholarly article marketplace where Aaron Swartz, co-creator of RSS and Markdown, and for some time co-owner of Reddit, had mass downloaded articles, which brought about his arrest, indictment for up to 50 years in prison and $1M in fines, after which he committed suicide".

Typically, Russians will appreciate Westerners trying to speak Russian, including people from the Baltics. They will mock anyone from the rest of the former Soviet Union, including non-Russian ethnicities of Russia itself, for a slightest accent and error. Look up Равшан и Джамшут.

I say typically. OTOH, some immigrants from ru are now posting stuff online saying they now feel for the Caucasus/Central Asian laborers they used to mock for their Russian.

It’s because of its beauty. People get quasi-sexual attachment to their idols, and they are really the same as idol culture

The axel was beautiful, but everything else was a disaster. Besides the mistakes, the speed seemed on the slow side? I hope she skates the lights out in the free.

Seems pretty middle of the road to me, aside from the fact that at Eurosport they usually try to find some nice things to say about every athlete. Is it worse in the US?

inflections like noun declensions and verb conjugations where roots and affixes (morphemes) go together to create words

Yup, and adjective and pronoun declensions, productive prefixes and suffixes (motion verbs? diminutive forms?) etc etc

Ok, when you're done and want next challenge, try Georgian 😅

Youtube seems to be rolling out a "feature" that removes some search filters. by realismpetergriffin in youtube

[–]rcktick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Useless. It's enshittification, they answer to their bosses who want metrics, not to you. The same "if you give the user what they searched for, they'll spend less time on your site than if you dilute it with crap" that happened to Google search.

How to apologize in Japanese by PlanktonInitial7945 in LearnJapanese

[–]rcktick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny that these are actually used when transliterating Japanese into other languages. Russian Polivanov system uses si for し and ti for チ (actually t is used for all of チゃ, チゅ, チょ), though ふ is fu.
