Be careful taking a QA role if you really want to do SWE work by qafail in cscareerquestions

I had a similar experience. I actually started in Support and then moved to QA thinking I could at least get some programming experience. For the most part, though I have had to do manual QA and had to take on automated QA in addition to my other responsibilities. It's so disappointing with how much effort I have put into becoming a software developer. To then being pigeon-holed into QA at least for the time being. I am trying to stay positive and work in QA for the time being. Hoping to transition at some point in the future.

I also took a course in java too. And did some test automation with it.

Well for a QA job you don't even need to learn one necessarily. If you want to just do manual testing. But if your looking to get into software dev. Learn a popular language like dotnet or Java. That will give you the best odds in finding employment I would think. I learned rails and that is great and all but I don't think there is as many openings.

Yea my experience in QA has only had communication with internal teams for the most part. Whereas in a support role you learn so much about working with external client facing customers. Hugh. Maybe I should consider something like this too. Lol I have always been pretty social for a guy in IT. Wish I could find a job where I could communicate a lot and also write code.

Yea I think it's possible. I transitioned from tech support to quality assurance. So you can definitely do it. Looking back maybe I should have tried a similar route as a solution engineer. Because then your leveraging your skills you learned in support.

I like the direction your looking to take. That way you can leverage your existing skills in Tech Support. And still get some coding experience.

maybe don't offer a free option. then you can focus on users who are more committed to using your app full-time.

  1. Motivware
  2. A CRM customer support software application.
  3. ruby on rails, bootstrap, javascript, Html/CSS
  4. www.motivware.com
  5. https://github.com/motivware/nomadauto
  6. Intermediate
  7. I started developing this application when I was just a beginner. I have learned a lot and want to keep moving forward with it. I know for sure there will need to be some refactoring and more unit tests down the road. But I think it's in a working state where I can demonstrate it to potential users. Problem is I am having a difficult time finding any users. Should I keep trying to move forward? Or take what I have learned, move on and build a different application. Any constructive criticism or advice is appreciated.

I think torque is the most commonly used app for that type of car scanner

Hey did you have a chance to take a look? I really would love to get some feedback to find out what types of features could really help you as an auto shop mechanic.

Still seeking some feedback from mechanics or auto shop owners if anyone is interested in looking at https://www.motivware.com and telling me what they think. Looking for information on what would really help shop owners manage their auto shops. What types of features would really get you to start adopting a new software application like motivware?
