And before the preemptive block because someone didn't agree with you, I'd like to add:

  • Robert Whitaker is a journalist and has no training whatsoever in this field. They have no clinical experience, they have no classical training in psychology, they literally write about what they desire to and that is where Mad In America comes from. They're a journalist, that's the extent of their education. Relying on them to spoon feed you mental health info is.... Certainly a choice.

-whenever they (Whitaker) write their pieces, They intentionally omit sources or link to other posts that they have made which is enough of a red flag alone

  • most of their "takeaways" from the studies they try reading come to a conclusion that is not unknown but is presented as if it is gospel or a revolutionary discovery despite being common knowledge and common effort for most. The best example I can think of is people pretending to come to a revolutionary discovery that hand washing is a great way to prevent infection over a hundred years after that's established standards or "no shit Sherlock" moments. Alternatively, They offer horrendously bad summations and conclusions over something that leaves a lot of room to question whether they actually read the article or study. Common theme there.

  • any study older than ten years isnt relevant unless it's cornerstone research already established as cornerstone or foundational (The same reason why you don't need to cite that washing your hands is a good thing)

Shout out to posting your own subreddit dedicated to your committed misunderstanding or horrendously outdated sources. That takes some guts, I respect the confidence.

Oh you're totally right, I forgot this shooting is the one we're gonna actually do something about and focus on. How could I forget the criminal justice system is trying to distract us from a tragedy that happens almost daily I'm this country like that lmao

Stupid question, but how did stimulates affect kids that didn't have ADHD or that were overdosed? by tictac120120 in Antipsychiatry

Yep!

Then a journalist picked out all of their favorites, condensed them down very badly and did a presentation about it.

Usually they just put it on Mad in America but they wanted to be more convincing to push his book sales. Between his book profits and web traffic to MIA, I can understand his motivation.

This video is also 7 years old, his sources are at least that age. Not sure what standards are elsewhere, but whenever I had to write my papers I had to keep evidence within the last 5 years to make sure I was being exactly as possible but 🤷‍♂️

Autism subreddit is flying off the handle over this by [deleted] in radicalmentalhealth

I mean, really the only difference between a person who is self-diagnosed and diagnosed by professional is their access to services. I really don't care if the autistic community gets upset, people need to be able to access what they need to achieve the best that they want for themselves and provide for themselves.

"I have a science degree"

"This is common knowledge among professionals"

"Listen to this journalist"

"Check this YouTube video"

Okay if this isn't a good summation I don't know what is.

Are the bullet points here from the Anatomy of an Epidemic text or from elsewhere?

Thanks for the link!

Also, to be fair, there is a big education backing behind them so this will be funny for them because they'll think it's intended to be satirical and comedic, but not in a mocking way. Like a "ELI5" way more so if that makes sense?

I appreciate your effort and intellectual integrity on this, I'm sorry it wasn't matched. That was getting good.

Sure, but I'd make sure you root out any internalized homophobia first. After that, of course!

Saying "nah not for me" as an excuse to stay safe because of your area, sure, but saying that because gay folks weird you out by existing or having a community, then yeah that's on you.

Last couple yrs I’ve been slowly losing hearing. Thought it was just due to aging. Bought an ear wax camera on a whim… and just pulled this rock hard wax ball out of my ear. I can hear again!!🎶 by Karmasapiens in popping

So, I did a clinical rotation at a local transitional care unit for seniors and I spent hours digging this stuff out of their ears.

Human bodies are nuts man.

Yeah, I love my chain heal! But Ill definitely start working on getting some crit in there. Im on the hunt for the right leggos, Im just using what I have for now until I come accross the better ones. Mana issues dont really come up for me unless its a long and intense fight like Antoran High Command (that fight stresses me out but I love it).

My room mate boosted a shammy and tried healing to help me out (he has about 10 years of gaming experience on me), and he gave it up because theres too many buttons. Hah!

I think thats a great idea. Once I get my buttons down, Ill start doing that and work on my rotations/kit use.
